Abstract

Abstract

Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) is one kind of university contribution to community. Through KKN, student also learn how to apply their knowledge and contribute it to community need. In Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) there are two kind of KKN which are Reguler and Pembelajaran Pemberdayaan Masyarakat (PPM), which differentiate from the topic used. KKN PPM already has major topic that obtained from village destination need. The problem from KKN PPM is limitation time for student to learn about major topic before socialize to community like in KKN UII 57 unit 310-315 which has pyrolisis method as their major topic. Not all the sudent that include in unit 310-315, which come from different study, understand about pyrolisis. To settle this problem, experimental method was choose as learning method used, which help student understand about pyrolisis in limitation time. The effectiveness of this method was observed by observation, interview and questioner. The result show that expertimental method give good result. The student understand basic concept of pyrolisis process that needed in limitation time, eventhough they did not understand anything about pyrolisis method before.

Abstract

The covid-19 has impacted many sectors to change the way the run their activity, including the learning and teaching activity at a higher education. Many departments at the educational institution have been affected seriously due to the physical laboratory closing, especially for the activity at chemistry laboratory. The physical laboratory has been transformed to the virtual laboratory in order to accommodate the student to study the experimental course. By using the internet and communication technology (ICT) innovation in teaching and learning method, the student can still have the experiment and continue the lecture through online system. This effort may help the student to still play an active role while participating in the learning process.

Abstract

The impact of advanced technology is perceived in every sector, including education. As the Ministry of Education and Culture program, distance learning has become applied in Indonesia, especially with this pandemic COVID-19. The learning model used in the course will affect student understanding in this situation, especially for an experimental study that aims to enhance student skills in the laboratory. The virtual laboratory practice is an additional learning model used in Environmental Chemistry Laboratory Course. Before, the Environmental Laboratory Course used only video to deliver learning materials. This research is experimental research that aims to evaluate the additional virtual laboratory practice's impact on student grades compared to the previous method. The research result was obtained by comparing the practical course's assessment results in 2019/2020 to 2020/2021. A questionnaire was also used to collect student opinions about the new learning method. The number of samples in this research was 395 students. The results show that the average students' grades using explanatory video only is 89, then with additional virtual laboratory practice are 88. From the questionnaire, 46% of the respondent said the application increased their understanding of the learning materials, and they also enjoyed using the application. It could be concluded that the virtual laboratory practice did not improve the assessment result of the course but enhanced the student interest. Abstract

Vehicle activities such as fuel and brakes contribute to air pollutants such as heavy metals. Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla), apart from being used as a shade plant, can also function as an air filter by absorbing surrounding pollutants. This study aims to determine whether Mahogany can be used as a bioindicator of air pollution, especially Pb, Cu, and Zn metals. Mahogany leaves, air, and soil samples were taken at the Universitas Islam Indonesia, Jl. Kaliurang Km 14.5 Sleman Yogyakarta Indonesia. then the sample was destructed using HNO3 and analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Results showed that the concentrations Pb in the mahogany leaf samples were correlated with the concentrations Pb in the air samples with correlation values of 0.76. Meanwhile, the Cu and Zn concentration of Mahogany leaves correlated with the Cu and Zn concentration of the soil sample of 0.93 and 0.83.

Abstract

Project-based learning has been used globally as one of the effective methods to evaluate student performance in achieving the learning outcome of the chemistry subject. It became one of the priorities in implementing the new policy, Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MB-KM) from The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology in Indonesia. The student at the university level can join a project-based learning program conducted outside the classroom and supervised by the Project supervisor. We proposed the project-based learning program to maximize the chemistry students’ role in solving the waste cooking oil in society. The purpose of this program was to introduce the chemistry student to the real problem in the society and allow the dissemination of their innovative idea. The information prevailed from observing the activity, interviewing the students, and evaluating the student's performance. This project-based learning presented that students accomplish the information and knowledge they gain from the classroom into actions to solve the real problem in society.  Keywords: project-based learning, Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MB-KM), waste cooking oil, chemistry students’ role
