Abstract

The skin is the outermost organ that is often exposed to the external environment, which can cause skin diseases, one of which is scabies. Scabies is caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis and its products. often found in densely populated environments, such as Islamic boarding schools and communities with poor personal hygiene quality or tend to be poor, and low economic status. For management, administration of drugs is generally topical to kill the mites that cause this disease. However, it has limitations, such as the relatively expensive price, so that alternative medicine materials with relatively cheaper costs are needed, namely medicines made from plants. The purpose of this study was to evaluate publications on the effectiveness of scabies treatment using natural ingredients. Methods: This study uses a literature study method in obtaining information or data from journals and research documents. The results of the literature study indicate that the use of traditional medicine is effective in the healing process of scabies. The use of traditional medicine is effective in curing scabies but as a complement to the use of topical drugs.

Abstract

Laparoscopy is one way to perform various simple procedures or surgeries in the abdominal cavity. Laparoscopy can be useful in the management of ventriculo-peritoneal shunt (VP Shunt) fractures. The peritoneal component of the shunt remaining in the abdominal cavity can be removed using laparoscopy. A pediatric patient with hydrocephalus with a history of VP Shunt insertion 5 years ago, came with complaints of weakness, vomiting and difficulty eating. Physical examination revealed the presence of edema in the chamber area. A CT scan of the head and plain abdominal radiographs were performed. The diagnosis was made as a shunt fracture, with the peritoneal component of the shunt remaining in the abdominal cavity. The patient received treatment in the form of a revised VP shunt and peritoneal shunt extraction using standard laparoscopy which is commonly used for adult patients. The patient's condition improved after the procedure. Peritoneal shunt extraction in cases of VP shunt fracture can be safely performed using laparoscopy. If there are limited tools, this procedure can still be performed on children using standard laparoscopy which is usually used for adult patients.  Authors report this case due to no previous report in Mojokerto area were known.

Abstract

Increasing levels of blood cholesterol is one of the risk factors for atherosclerosis. Currently, experts have been trying used herbal medicine as an alternative treatment of atherosclerosis. One of the highlights is the use of celery stalks. Celery is generally used as a flavouring dish. In addition, celery stalks are believed able to reduce cholesterol levels because they contain flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. This study was aim to determine the effect of celery stalk ethanol extract to reduce LDL an increase of HDL level in rats after fed high-fat diet. Randomized Post Test Only Control Group Design was used to measure the HDL and LDL blood serum levels of male Wistar (Rattus norvegicus) rats fed a high-fat diet. This study was used 27 male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) divided into 3 groups; K1 was only given regular feed and water, K2 was given a high-fat diet and water, K3 was given a high-fat diet and celery stalk extract at a dose of 75mg/kg BW/day for 14 days. The data were analysed by ANOVA test and Tukey HSD test. The results of the ANOVA test showed a significance value of p-value of LDL = 0.000 and HDL p-value = 0.536. Celery stalk extract (Apium graviolens L) had an effect on decreasing LDL levels but not on increasing HDL blood serum levels of white Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) given high-fat diet.

Abstract

Diabetic ulcers are one of the most common chronic complications and cause infection, gangrene to leg amputation if the treatment given is not appropriate. Chitosan has anti-microbial properties that make the wound area smaller and are anti-inflammatory to reduce pain. Water gel (hydrogel), which is water, is easily absorbed by the skin and penetrates perfectly into the wound so that it provides a moist effect and prevents bacteria from entering. This study aims to determine the effect of giving chitosan water gel (hydrogel) on the healing of diabetic ulcers. This study uses a literature study method by searching for related journals using keywords, then selected based on the last 5 years and indexed in SINTA, Google Scholar or Scopus, and the final results are 13 journals. This study took place in May - November 2021. The results of this study reported that the administration of chitosan water gel (hydrogel) combined with other ingredients for healing diabetic ulcers gave the same results. The results obtained are reducing inflammation, re-epithelializing wounds, accelerating angiogenesis, accelerating the formation of collagen and granulation tissue, and accelerating wound healing. Although all studies have the same results, the healing time produced by each study is different, this is because each ingredient used has a different content. The average wound changes were seen on the 3rd, 5th, 7th day and the wound healed completely on the 14th day. This study concludes that the administration of chitosan water gel (hydrogel) affects the healing of diabetic ulcer wounds in combination with other ingredients. because the time needed to close the wound is faster.
