Abstract

Background: Hemorrhoid is one of the most common anorectal problem. Definite etiological cause(s) are still unknown but there are many risk factors that are found to be responsible for the development of hemorrhoid. Elimination and modification of these risk factors are the keys toward the effective control and prevention of hemorrhoid. Aim: This study aims to analyze the correlation between family history, constipation, defecation position, and defecation time and hemorrhoid among patient in general surgery outpatient clinic Dr. Mohamad Soewandhie Regional Public Hospital Surabaya. Methods: This was an analytic observational study with cross-sectional design. Sampling was conducted with purposive sampling technique. Coefficient contingency test was done to analyze correlation between bivariate variables. Fifty-six patients in June and July 2016 were given questionnaire and patient’s medical records were taken to know the presence of hemorrhoid. Results: There was a correlation, respectively, between family history and hemorrhoid (C=0,329; p=0,009), constipation and hemorrhoid (C=0,474; p=0,000), between defecation position and hemorrhoid (C=0,395; p=0,001), and between defecation time and hemorrhoid (C=0,448; p=0,000). Conclusion: The incidence of hemorrhoid could be affected by family history, constipation, defecation position, and defecation time.

Abstract

Introduction: Post-surgery diet is a set of foods that are given to patients after surgery. Nutritional management in post-surgical patients are often neglected despite the fact that patients require additional calories due to metabolic stress. Nutritional deficiency can impair wound healing since it is a process that requires protein to form collagen tissue. Aim: This study aims to determine the relationship between total calories and protein intake with serum albumin level of post-surgical patients. Methods: This study used an observational analytic design with cross-sectional approach. The sample was gathered using consecutive sampling technique. Study population were all post-surgical patients of Dr. Mohammad Soewandhie Hospital Surabaya aged 30-64 years whose medical records taken in June 2016. There are 32 respondents who met the inclusion criteria. Result: There was a significant correlation between the total calories intake with serum albumin level (r = 0.354; p = 0.047) and between total protein intake with serum albumin level (r = 0.545; p = 0.001). Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between total calories and protein intake with serum albumin level in post-surgical patients.

Abstract

Introduction : Candida albicans is normal flora that can be found on skin, oral mucosa and digestive tract. This organism are commensal or non pathogenic, but when there is other predisposition factor, this commensal tendency may become pathogenic to the human body. In Diabetes Mellitus patients with high blood sugar level can affect Candida Albicans infection events. Aim: The purpose of this research is to prove whether there is a correlation between Candida Albicans colonization growth and the addition of 5%, 10% and 40% Dextrose level on Saboraud Dextrose Agar (SDA). Method: This research is a true experimental research with post test only group design observed in 11 days. Samples are from 15 strains of Candida Albicans cultured in Saboraud Dextrose Agar without the addition of Dextrose, with the addition of Dextrose 5%, 10% and 40% in eleven days and the development were noted. The growth of Candida albicans is observed from the diameter growth. Result: in the culture of Candida albicans in 11 days. Data analysis using Kruskal Wallis with data signification (α = 0,05) obtained P 0,000 (P

Abstract

Introduction: Knee osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that is most common in adults and the elderly in many countries. Incidence of osteoarthritis is increased steadily over the last 15 years. Currently, there is still no simple therapy to cure osteoarthritis disease. Therefore, it is very important to find the risk factor of osteoarthritis to do etiology prevention. Aim: The purpose of this study is to discover the correlation of body mass index and age with disability rate in patients with Grade II-IV Knee Osteoarthritis. Methods: This research is an observational analytical study using cross sectional approach. The sampling techniques used was purposive sampling. Data collection was done by interviewing respondents using KOOS-PS questionnaire. Result: There is a significant, strong correlation between body mass index and disability rate in patients with knee joint OA (r=0.661). However, there is no significant correlation between age and knee joint OA disability (r=0.150). A moderate correlation is found, respectively, between body mass index and the grade of knee joint OA (r=0.424) and also between age and the grade of knee joint OA (r=0.352). Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between body mass index and disability rate of patients with knee joint OA.

Abstract

Introduction: Indonesia is on its way to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) of reducing the maternal mortality ratio by three-quarters between 1990 and 2015. Preeclampsia was the second cause of maternal mortality in Indonesia that was 7-10% from all maternal mortality that happened. Preeclampsia is a disease that occurs during pregnancy, which usually appear after 20 weeks and is characterized by an increase in blood pressure during pregnancy (systolic/diastolic ≥140/90 mmHg) with proteinuria and edema. Research shows an association between high Body Mass Index with an increase in the occurrence of preeclampsia. Aim: This research purpose is to determine the correlation between Body Mass Index with incidence of preeclampsia. Methods: This research used an observational analytic cross-sectional design. The sample used was 46 data from mother with preeclampsia and 46 from mother with normal pregnancy. The data used were secondary data from X hospital on January 2014 until December 2015, selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysed using Spearman test. Result: Preeclampsia was significantly correlated to high body mass index (p=0,000, correlation coefficient is 0,632), where 58.7% of obese mothers, 28.26% of overweight mothers were diagnosed with preeclampsia, while only 8.7% of normal weight mothers, and 4.34% of underweight mothers had preeclampsia. Conclusion: The results showed that there was a significant correlation between Body Mass Index and preeclampsia , suggesting that mothers with high body mass index were at a higher risk of preeclampsia

Abstract

Background: Gallbladder adhesion is a complication which causes difficulty in cholecystectomy. The author aims to seek for a test that could be used as a predictor factor for gallbladder adhesion. In this research, the elevated white blood cell (leukocyte) count is the factor studied. Aim: This study aims to seek for correlation between leukocytosis and gallbladder adhesion on cholecystectomy patients. Method: This research is an observational analytic study using cross sectional design. The independent variable in this research is leukocytosis, and the dependent variable is gallbladder adhesion. Analysis in this research is carried out with Chi-Square test, using a total sampling of 45 medical records of cholecystectomy patients at X Hospital. Result: The majority of cholelithiasis patients in this research were between 50-59 years old (33,3%), with a mean of 51 years old. The number of cholelithiasis patient was dominated by female (62,2%). According to the cholecystectomy procedure, 26 patients underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy (58,8%). According to clinical presentation, pain in the upper right of the abdomen was experienced by 25 patients (55,6%). Complication suffered by patients was mostly cholecystitis (n=44), yielding the number of 97,8%, followed by gallbladder adhesion in 34 patients (75,6%). Leukocytosis, which is assumed to be the predictor factor of gallbladder adhesion, was found in 15 patients (33,3%). The Chi-Square test showed no significant correlation between the two variable studied (p=0,62). Conclusion: There is no significant correlation between leukocytosis and gallbladder adhesion in cholecystectomy patients.
