Deiksis is a journal that aims to be a peer-reviewed platform and an authoritative source of information. We publish scientific works from national and international lecturers, researchers, students, and practitioners to present their new ideas, concepts, and theories in Indonesian language and literature education focused on Language Learning and Indonesian Literature, Class Action Research (CAR) of the teaching of Language and Indonesian Literature, Indonesian Linguistics and Literature, Linguistic and Literary analysis as well as related topics. All articles are peer-reviewed by at least two peer-reviewers. Deiksis is managed to be issued twice in every volume. The scope of Deiksis is Indonesian Language and Literature Learning Model, Assessment and Evaluation of Teaching Indonesian Language and Literature, discourse analysis, pragmatics, anthropolinguistics, language and culture, dialectology, language documentation, cognitive linguistics, language education, translation, language planning, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics and other scientific fields related to language studies.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine and to investigate the effect of lexical knowledge of collocation towards student’s reading comprehension, the effect of grammar mastery towards student’s reading comprehension, and the effects of lexical knowledge of collocation grammar mastery altogether towards students’ reading comprehension. The method which used is a survey method. Sample was taken as many as 60 students with simple random technique. Data collected by test directly to the sample. Data analysis using descriptive statistics such finding mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and inferential statistics is to look for multiple regression by using ANOVA and coefficient table. This research was conducted from September to December. The results of this research explained that: 1) there are significant effects of lexical knowledge of collocation and grammar mastery altogether towards students’ reading comprehension skill. The result has shown Ftest = 3.665 > Ftable = 3.15 and Sig = 0.032 < 0.05, 2) there is a significant effect of lexical knowledge of collocation towards students reading comprehension skill. The result has shown the score of Sig = 0.043 < 0.05 and ttest = 2.068 while ttable = 1.64 ttest > ttable, 3) there is a significant effect of grammar mastery towards students’ reading comprehension skill. The result has shown the score of Sig = 0.044 < 0.05 and ttest = 2.056 while ttable = 1.64 ttest > ttable.Key Words : Lexical Collocation, Grammar Mastery, Reading Comprehension

Abstract

The purposes of the research was to investigate the significant role of lecturer’s characteristics both verbal and non-verbal towards students’ motivation in Indraprasta PGRI University. The students were in the third year (semester six) during a period of two months in which this study was conducted. The researchers used survey method in this study. Data collection were conducted by distributing questionnaires both to lecturers and students. The data were processed and analyzed by using statistic descriptive, normality test, linearity test, homogenity test, and hypotheses test. Statistic test uses t test and F test. The research was conducted from second week of March until fourth week of June 2015. The research shows that there is not an effect of lecturer’s characteristics towards students’ motivation with the regression analisis: Y= 43,923 + 0.322 X. Whenever there is a rise in the value of lecturer’s characteristics, there will be a decrease in students’ motivation for 0.322.Key words: lecturer’s characteristics, students’ motivation

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui implikatur percakapan yang mematuhi dan melanggar maksim prinsip kerja sama pada novel Teheran dalam Toples karya Aminatul Faizah. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif analisis. Hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan penulis, didapat 25 kutipan penggalan percakapan yang mengadung implikatur percakapan. Setelah dianalisis dan diteliti, terlihat bahwa percakapan yang mematuhi prinsip kerja sama lebih dominan pada novel Taheran dalam Toples karya Aminatul Faizah. Hal ini tampak pada banyaknya temuan percakapan yang mematuhi maksim kualitas dan relevansi karena prinsip kerja sama dalam kutipan penggalan percakapan tersebut mengandung informasi yang benar dan saling berhubungan, sedangkan pelanggaran terdapat pada maksim kuantitas dan pelaksanaan karena prinsip kerja sama dalam kutipan penggalan percakapan tersebut mengandung informasi yang berlebihan dan tidak singkat. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penulis novel sudah mampu mematuhi prinsip kerja sama implikatur percakapan dengan baik.Kata Kunci: implikatur percakapan, prinsip kerja sama, mematuhi, melanggar

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran minat membaca dan penguasaan kosakata terhadap ketrampilan berbicara pidato. Penelitian ini adalah survei dengan populasi peserta didik kelas VIII SMP Swasta di Kota Depok. Sampel diambil dengan teknik random sampling sebanyak 60 orang. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah angket, tes dan berpidato. Analilis data menggunakan regresi korelasi ganda. Dari perolehan hasil: (1) terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan minat membaca dan penguasaan kosakata secara bersama-sama terhadap keteramplan berbicara pidato; (2) terdapat pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan minat membaca terhadap ketrampilan membaca terhadap ketrampilan berbicara pidato; (3) terdapat pengaruh yang positif dan signifikan terhadap ketrampilan berbicara pidato.Kata kunci: minat membaca, penguasaan kosakata, ketrampilan berbicara pidato

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap tipe klausa pada tajuk rencana Kompas melalui pemahaman ciri semantik verba sebagai pengendali konstruksi klausa. Adapun penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskripsi kualitatif dengan teknik analisis isi. Sementara itu, penelitian ini menggunakan teori bersifat eklektik. Berdasarkan data hasil penelitian, tipe klausa pada tajuk rencana Kompas ialah klausa (1) transitif (43%) yang terbentuk atas (1a) verba transitif polimorfemis dan (1b) verba transitif opsional; (2) dwi-intransitif (18%) yang terbentuk atas (2a) verba dwi-intransitif monomorfemis, (2b) verba dwi-intransitif polimorfemis, dan (2c) verba dwi-intransitif opsional; (3) equatif (17%) yang terbentuk atas yaitu (3a) verba equatif monomorfemis dan (3b) verba polimorfemis; (4) intransitif (16%) yang terbentuk (4a) klausa monomorfemis dan (4b) klausa polimorfemis; dan (5) dwitransitif (6%) yang terbentuk atas (5a) SPOK dan (5b) SPOPel. Hal itu mengindikasikan bahwa bahasa tajuk rencana Kompas dapat dikatakan menggunakan konstruksi yang sederhanaKata kunci: tipe klausa, ciri semantik verba, dan empat ciri tagmem serta satu sifat kehadiranAbstractThis study aims to reveal the type of clause in the Kompas editorial through the understanding of semantic features of verbs as the clause construction controler. This study used a qualitative description method of content analysis techniques. Meanwhile, this study uses the eclectic theory. Based on the research data, the types of clause on the Kompas editorial are clause (1) transitive (43%) were formed on the (1a) transitive polymorphem verbs and (1b) optionally transitive verbs; (2) bi-intransitive (18%) were formed on (2a) bi-intransitive verbs monomorphem, (2b) bi-intransitive verbs polymorphem, and (2c) bi-intransitive verbs optional; (3) equative (17%) were formed on that (3a) equative verbs monomorphem and (3b) polymorphem verbs; (4) intransitive (16%) were formed (4a) clause monomorphem and (4b) polymorphem clause; and (5) bi-transitive (6%) were formed on (5a) SPOK and (5b) SPOPel. Abstract

This study explores some important issues, namely the occurrences of code switching types, and function in teen magazines articles. Some theories were used to analyse the data, namely Poplack (1980) was used to identify types of code switching and Koziol (2000) was applied to investigate functions of Code Switching. Based on the results of analysis, it shows that there were three types of code switching found in teen magazine articles e.g. Intrasentential Switching, Intersentential Switching, and Tag Switching. In term of functions of code switching, nine functions were identified namely personalization, reiteration, designation, emphasis, calrification, untranslatability, mitigating message, interjection parenthesis, aggravating message, and topic shift.The findings reveal intra-sentential switching as the type which dominates the discourse in the magazine (62.50 %). Meanwhile, emphasis function is the most frequent function occurs in the magazine (45.39 %).Keywords: teen magazine, code switching types, code switching functions

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know any kind of Figurative Meanings, which is dominantly used and to find out kinds of situation used in the Jakarta Post Headline News. The data were collected by qualitative research; they were gathered by doing newspaper observation. There were 14 headline news of Jakarta post collected. The data were analyzed by figurative meaning which consists of: personification, synecdoche, metonymy. The result of the study shows that Metonymy (3), Synecdoche (6), Personification (5), and the most dominant of figurative meaning are Synecdoche (6). This figurative meaning used in all situations that show expression in which the name of an attribute or a thing is substituted by another with which it is associated closely.Key words: Figurative Meanings Analysis, Headline News Jakarta Post

Abstract

This study aims at describing the grammatical mistakes at the first year classes of English Department of State University of Jakarta and to investigate the correction of those grammatical mistakes. This study used a case study as a method. It used non-participant observation as the instrument of the study. There are six classes were being observed more than five times, total of the data sources is 39 classroom activities. The result of this study shows that students at the first year classes of ED UNJ made grammatical mistakes mostly in number while the students did not make mistakes in definiteness. It also shows that most teachers are aware to students’ grammatical mistakes since more than 50% of the mistakes were corrected by the teacher. The result of this study shows that the most effective correction of grammatical mistakes is clarification request.Key words: Grammatical Mistakes, Correction of Grammatical Mistakes, Classroom Interaction

Abstract

Di lingkungan perguruan tinggi, komunikasi dibutuhkan dalam proses interaksi baik di dalam kelas, maupun di luar kelas, dalam proses belajar mengajar, maupun pergaulan sehari-hari. Melalui komunikasi mahasiswa saling bertukar pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam hal akademik maupun secara umum. Tujuan dari penelitian ini secara umum untuk mengetahui komunikasi interpersonal yang terjalin antara mahasiswa dengan dosen yang dilihat dari sudut pandang communication apprehension atau ketakutan komunikasi. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode wawancara mendalam (indepth-interview) dengan beberapa mahasiswa yang menjadi subjeknya. Instrumen untuk melakukan wawancara berbentuk pedoman wawancara yang tidak terstruktur dan bersifat open-ended. Berdasarkan penuturan yang disampaikan berdasarkan pengalaman mahasiswa maka dapat diperoleh simpulan sebagai berikut; Pertama, ketakutan berkomunikasi bukan suatu sifat bawaan sejak lahir, namun dapat berkembang dan berubah seiring dengan meningkatnya usia dan perjalanan hidup seseorang. Kedua, faktor yang juga menjadi penentu kehidupan psikologis mahasiswa adalah perubahan tingkat pendidikan dari sekolah menengah menjadi perguruan tinggi. Ketiga, citra yang melekat pada dosen tertentu sebagai dosen “killer” atau “serem” menjadikan mahasiswa mempunyai ketakutan tersendiri apabila berhadapan langsung dengan dosen tersebut. Keempat, ketakutan komunikasi tidak terjadi secara terus-menerus, namun bersifat situasional atau juga kontekstual.Kata Kunci: Komunikasi Interpersonal, Mahasiswa, Dosen, Ketakutan Komunikasi

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keefektifan dari pendekatan genre-based terhadap pemahaman teks bacaan bahasa Inggris pada peserta didik kelas tujuh sehingga dapat meningkatkan keterampilan membaca peserta didik umumnya pada teks bacaan pada ujian akhir semester genap 2013/2014. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimen dengan menggunakan analisis korelasi. Hipotesis yang diujikan adalah: apakah pendekatan genre-based efektif meningkatkan pemahaman teks Bahasa Inggris Peserta Didik Kelas VII. Instrumen pada penelitian ini adalah seperangkat tes soal Ulangan bahasa Inggris pre tes dan post test setara dengan ujian akhir semester genap. Hipotesis ini diuji menggunakan korelasi Pearson Product Moment. Populasinya adalah 35 siswa.Kata Kunci: pendekatan genre-based, pemahaman teks bacaan bahasa Inggris, peserta didik kelas VII.
