Abstract

Constructivism approach is a concept that many talk about mathematic and is expected to become the intellectual foundation to develop and analyze mathematical learning problems. Pendekatan constructivism is one of the alternative settlement and expected as an activity undertaken in mathematics learning in order to become better and more effective so that students will achieve better result. In applying the approach of constructivism in mathematic learning, the teacher really have to pay attention to the environmental conditions for students and student’s readiness to learn, because it is as a means of interaction for them, and require attention eamest for theacher.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to reveal the barriers to student learning in the Algebra Structure II course on Ring Material. The research subjects were students of the Tadris / Mathematics Education Study Program at the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Padangsidimpuan in semester 6 as many as 5 students in the 2017-2018 academic year. Where in this study is a type of descriptive research using a qualitative approach. The data collection techniques are carried out, namely: documentation method, test method, and interview method. Data analysis was done by comparing the results of the Algebra Structure II test data and the results of interviews with students. The results of the analysis show that the obstacles to student learning in Algebra Structure II subjects are hampered by conceptual errors, are hampered by strategic errors, are hampered by calculation errors and are hampered by systematic errors. The alternative is to overcome these obstacles, it is necessary for lecturers to be able to develop a learning strategy in the form of giving a variety of problem exercises to students continuously especially those related to Ring material so that students can be more refined thinking skills.

Abstract

Using the Jarimatika method to improve students' numeracy skills in counts ranging from 6 to 20. Jarimatika is very easy to accept students, learning does not burden computer memory and tools can be used easily in fronst of students. Students aged 6 years to 12 years are only able to think logically or be able to solve problems that characterize them concretely or by talking about and doing things. Therefore, students will more easily think of something visual from verbal. Thus students will be able to optimize the abilities of each student. With continuous training, it will activate brain cells. The application of the Jarimatika method is very helpful for students, because so far students only count the multiplication by memorizing or summarizing repeatedly, requiring considerable time, besides that most students are not careful in adding them up.

Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) to increase mathematical problem solving ability of students through the application of problem-based learning, and (2) to increase active activity levels of students with problem-based learning. This type of research is a class action. Subjects in this study are students of cass VII-3 SMP Negeri 7 Padangsidimpuan. The instrument uses a form of problem-solving ability test descriptions and observation. The results show that in the first cycle has not show optimal results therefore it needs the second cycle. In the  second cycle shows an increase in the problems solving ability of students. In the first cycle is 50% rising to 89% in the second cycle. The levers of active student’s activity based on the observation shows at each meeting including both categories. Based on these result, the researcher suggests that the problem-based learning can be an altervative for teachers of mathematics to be developed as one of the effective learning to improve students’ mathematics problem solving ability and increasing the activity of active students.

Abstract

Mathematical communication is the ability of a person in terms of explaining an algorithm and unique ways to solve problems, the ability of students to construct, and explain the presentation of real word phenomena in graphs, word/sentence, equation, tables or the ability of students to give assumstions about geometry image. Learning strategies that support mathematical communication skills is: Small-Group-Work Strategy, Group, Cooverative Learning, Think-Pair-Share Strategy, and Think-Talk-Write Strategy.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to improve students' cognitive abilities in the implementation of the mathematics learning process by using problem posing strategies. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) in collaboration with teachers in Mathematics. This research was conducted at Padangsidimpuan Middle School 7. With research subjects class VII-1, amounting to 28 people. Data collection instruments used were tests. CAR procedures start from the planning, action, observation and reflection stages. This research was conducted in 2 cycles, each cycle having 2 meetings. The results of this study indicate that the cognitive abilities of students of class VII-1 SMP N 7 Padangsidimpuan increased by using the Problem Posing strategy. Because the increase in students' cognitive abilities through tests given during the learning process took place from the first cycle of the first meeting from 53.57% to 57.14% the first cycle of the second meeting and the second cycle of the first meeting from 75% to 85.14% the second cycle of the second meeting . In accordance with the indicators of the action of this study the results obtained have passed the predetermined average value of the average value of 75 until the second cycle of meeting 2 which is 77.92 with the percentage of students who complete 85.72.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research focusesd on the low achievement of mathematical learning in problem solving, mathematical communication and students activity in mathematical learning was low, response to mathematical learning activity was low and mathematical learning which was applied less efficient. Therefore, it needs an effort to improve learning process, problem solving and mathematical communication. One of effort was the implementation of jigsaw cooperative learning. This research is class action research which applied on SMP Negeri 5 Padang Sidimpuan. The subject of this research was grade VII that consist of 40 students. This research was developed by teacher’s book, students’ book, LAS and instrument which consist of problem solving test and mathematical communication test. The study comprised two cycles and the test given at the end of each cycle. It concluded that the implemantation of jigsaw cooperative learning are able to improve the students’ ability in mathematical communication, active students activity, teachers’ ability in managing learning process and students’ positive response on learning devices.Keywords : Jigsaw Cooperative Learning, Problem Solving, Mathematical Communication.

Abstract

The choice of method / model appropriate learning, according to the material / lesson material that will be given to students is the  right step in the quest to improve the quality of learning outcomes. This study aims to improve the activity and student learning outcomes through the  application of the Jigsaw cooperative learning. The hypothesis of this study is the application of the Jigsaw cooperative learning in the learning process can improve the activity and student learning outcomes. This research is a class action (Action Research), conducted on 46 people MHS Prodi STAIN Padangsidimpuan TMM. Data were collected through observation  sheet and achievement test. The results showed that the average value of student learning outcomes at the end of the study reach 81.1 and the percentage of positive student learning activity has been demonstrated in both criteria.

Abstract

This article was a qualitative research type grounded theory. The purpose of this study is to analyse mathematics disposition through vocational high students in order to understand students’ disposition on mathematics deeply. This study belongs to post positivism paradigm research. According to ontological side, the reality about students’ mathematics disposition is actually appear on students but not or have not been understood before, it just predictable. Otherwise, according to epistemological side, the prediction about mathematics disposition is needed to be more understood. That’s way qualitative research is needed to overcome students’ negative mathematics disposition. Researcher as the instrument analyse students’ mathematics wisely with using triangulation of the data. This study was implemented in one of the vocational high school in Bandung, west java. The subject of this study is 27 students of XI grade at SMKF Bumi Sliwangi. Based on analysis of the data, the finding is obtained in this study are: (1) SMKF Bumsil has a complete facilities with fresh air and a clean environment, (2) mathematics studying and learning process in the classroom is very optimal and conducive so that it can give a positive attitude in students’ mathematics disposition, (3) based on result of quationaire data, there are 21 students (78%) have a positive attitude in mathematics disposition, although there are 6 students (22%) have a negative attitude in mathematics disposition. We can conclude that most of students of  XI grade at SMKF Bumsil have a positive attitude in mathematics disposition.
