Abstract

In Indonesia, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in the virtualization of most social and educational activities, including discourse on the dynamics of Islamic education, which is colored by contextual differences in manhaj, ideology, and religious practice. Social media has evolved into a new role as a multicultural public space that reflects the Indonesian people's religious literacy diversity. As a subsystem of national education, Islamic education plays a critical role in internalizing the Indonesian people's competencies. Religious moderation literacy will lead Indonesian people who are multicultural to a more accepting and inclusive attitude while reducing social conflicts. The purpose of this research is to ascertain public sentiment toward religious literacy in Indonesia during the 2020 Covid-19 outbreak. Twitter was chosen as the virtual public space to study in this context because, according to previous research, it is a social media platform widely used by Indonesians to discuss serious topics in education and religion. The researcher employs a type of quantitative exploration as a statistical testing technique. The data collection technique was crawling through open public data associated with Twitter's Application Programming Interface (API). This research generated findings in a word cloud labeling graph containing data on religious moderation participation. The sentiment analysis score obtained is - 0.9183, which is higher than 0.4588 on religious moderation content. The combined score is 0.565, which is higher than 0.333. the results are also contained in a sentiment analysis heat map visualization. The researchers recommend future researchers compare the ratio of religious moderation material on Islamic religious education subjects in online learning.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has become a global health disaster since March 2020 and has had a significant impact on education. The education system forced to change from a face-to-face learning model to a virtual one to reduce the spread of COVID-19. These extraordinary conditions that lasted no less than one year give various responses from both teachers and learners perspectives. This study examines secondary school teachers and learners perspectives regarding education in the future post, Covid-19 pandemic. This paper used the descriptive method by qualitative approach. Furthermore, this study was conducted by distributing online questionnaires from 5 provinces in Indonesia, involving 40 teachers and 28 learners. The results of this study indicate that (1) e-learning has not fully accommodated some educational values that can be transmitted through classical learning process only, (2) direct interaction are the most lost value during e-learning, (3) the sustainability of e-learning depends on the readiness of resources and infrastructure, and (4) blended learning is the suitable learning model for future education. From the result of these studies, identifying the suitable blended learning model for future education sustainability in every level of education is essential to be further studies as the stakeholder's reference in implementation learning models.

Abstract

Flooding that occurred recently has become a very detrimental disaster for the victims. This flood disaster is still a concern for people in Indonesia. Flood mitigation needs to be done to all levels of society, especially vocational school students. Vocational school students must be responsive in any situation because, after graduation, they are ready to work. Disaster mitigation is essential to be included in learning at school. Disaster mitigation is also related to the Higher-Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) to always be ready and alert. In measuring vocational school students' understanding of disaster mitigation, initial research was carried out related to disaster mitigation and HOTS. The research subjects were 100 students of Vocational School in Jakarta who were randomly selected. This study used Google Forms as a data collection technique. The results showed that the students’ HOTS score was still low. The results showed that the Students’ HOTS scores on flooding were still low. The average score obtained by the whole students was 43.34. The male students obtained 30.27, and the female students obtained 45.97. All schools in Indonesia should implement early mitigation education that is integrated with HOTS learning.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze students in understanding ”faith in angels”. Also, the researchers tried to provide handouts with the example and non-example learning model and conventional model. This study employed the mixed-method approach, where the researchers used quantitative and qualitative data in formulating the results. The sample consisted of 68 junior high school students. The sample was determined by a total sampling of students studying Islamic Education at the Bengkulu school. The results showed that the concept of students' understanding of faith in angels was categorized as good. Furthermore, there is no significant difference between the use of the example and non-example model or the conversion model with handouts. The handouts made can make it easier to understand the concept of faith in angels even though they are used using the example and non-example and conventional model. The research with the handout of ”faith in angels” makes it easier for students to learn Islamic Education because it includes the picture and example real-life existence of angels.

Abstract

The number of studies and researchers in the science education field is constantly increasing from year to year. It makes research about article review very important because it helps researchers determine the research orientation. In this study, a research review was conducted on reading activities in science learning. There have been several studies on tracking research trends in science education in recent years, but there has not been any detailed discussion about reading activities in science learning. Therefore, it is necessary to know the development trends of research on reading activities in science learning. In this study, we analyze 74 articles published from 2000-2019 using the open-coding system. By using a search engine, it is done by entering one keyword or a combination of several keywords, include reading, a variety of ”reading and text," ”reading and science text," ”reading and textbook," ”reading, text, and science." The results showed that there were still many empty things that the researchers had not studied. The United States dominates the average researcher with a primary focus on reading comprehension. In terms of participants, research is dominated by involving students in schools (although the numbers are still small), with the variables studied are dominated by reading comprehension. This research can help researchers find gaps in research that have not been carried out related to reading activities in science learning.

Abstract

Student-centered learning intends to increase student participation. Biology subject is a broad scope and has a level of abstract concepts. Active learning has the potential to maximize the learning process of biology subjects. The purpose of the research is to describe the implementation and strategies of active learning applied to biology learning in higher education. The method used descriptive and systematic review. Selecting articles used the ERIC database. The search was carried out with predetermined categories, then a manual selection of the article to ensure the selected one. There are nine journals with nineteen articles analyzed at the higher education level of biology subject matter. This study's results, the implementation of active learning strategies, require support from lecturers and university stakeholders so that active learning runs effectively. An Active learning strategy used in biology material in higher education consists of the use of low-cost technology (virtual cell learning module) to high cost (SCALE-UP, clicker), low-cost learning without involving technology (card games, card organisms, kinesthetic physical models, 5E lesson plan, and pre-class reading guide) to outside the classroom (field training). The university's role and the understanding of lecturers in implementing active learning strategies have a crucial role in determining student learning outcomes. Lecturers and university stakeholders need to build cooperation, including a learning policy system and classroom implementation.
