Abstract

This research is aimed to know the position of Indonesian seaweeds exports’ competitiveness in global market, as well as the strategy to improve it. The research uses a quantitative approach, which specifically employs time series type that has been done within 10 years period (2003-2012). The data used are the data of seaweed product by the code product of HS 121220 Seaweeds and other algae (fresh or dried), HS 121221 Seaweeds fit for human consumption, HS 121229 Seaweeds and other algae unfit for human consumption. The data includes the value of Indonesian seaweeds exports commodity, the total of Indonesian exports, the value of seaweeds in global exports, the total of global exports, Indonesian seaweeds imports, Indonesian seaweeds production, and Indonesian seaweeds exports. The data is analyzed using Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), Import Dependency Ratio (IDR), Specialized Trading Index (ISP), Commodity Concentration Index (CCI), alongside with Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. The result shows that: (1) The RCA of seaweeds commodity though fluctuating but relatively increasing; (2) The Import Dependency Ratio of Indonesian seaweeds though fluctuating but relatively increasing, the fluctuation is due to their inability to produce plus value of ferments; (3) Index of Specialized trading appears to be positive; (4) Commodity Concentration Index of exports and imports though fluctuating but relatively increasing; (5) Indonesia can employ Rapid Growth Strategy. The result recommends Indonesian government to improve the quality of seaweeds products specifically using distribution improvements from farmers to consumer both in industrial scope and domestic consumer.

Abstract

Soybean is one of the commodities strategy, because the demand for soy in the international and domestic market has always increased. To fill the domestic soybean demand by importing soybeans. This is a serious problem because it will have an impact on the decline in farm income due to import soybeans. The aim of this study was to determine whether soybean farming in the village Banaran, Pracimantoro, Wonogirihas a competitive advantage and comparative advantage, as well as to determine the impact of government policy on soybean farming.The method used is qualitative method by interviews with soybean farmers. Results of interview with farmers processed by Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM), which produced the analysis forms of competitive advantage, comparative advantage, and the impact of government policy.Results from this study are of soybean farming in the village Banaran, Pracimantoro, Wonogiri only has a competitive advantage.Overall government policies protective of soybean farming in the village Banaran.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the market reaction that can be seen from the abnormal return and trading volume of activity against BI rate’s decrease announcement which is the lowest point in 2011. Research methods using paired samples t-test. Data used in this research include the date of announcement of the BI rate which is used as the event date (t0), daily closing share price of companies in a period of observation, LQ-45 index daily, the number of shares traded or daily volume, and the number of shares in circulation or listed share. This research uses 39 companies listed in the LQ 45 Index listed in BEI as samples. Result of this research is the absence of differences of Abnormal Return and Trading Volume of Activity before and after the announcement. The possibility of this situation was caused by the negative sentiment arising due to the debt crisis in Europe that there is never a solution so it affects the psychology of investors un decision-making.

Abstract

Capital expenditure allocation is aimed to preservation and expansion of local government fixed assets that provide long-term benefit. This paper investigates the factors that affect the capital expenditure allocation in Indonesian local government. Employing a panel pooled data-regression (fixed effect), our results reveal that local productivity, local funding, local budget requirement, and local establishment status are related to the value of capital expenditure. We found that efficiency of capital expenditure management is related with fiscal dependence.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify : (1) profile of exchange rate and purchasing power parity of IDR against US $ based on Big Mac Index compared to the exchange rate of other countries, and (2) the position of the Big Mac Affordability of  Indonesia compared to other ASEAN countries. The results showed that based on Big Mac index during the period April 1998 up to January 2015, IDR exchange rate tends to be undervalued against the USA dollar. The cause of the currency tends to be in a position of undervalued due to the components of non-tradable have not been included in Big Mac index. The index of Big Mac Affordability indicates that there is a great disparity of income between Singapore and five other ASEAN countries. The purchasing power of the real income of the people in Singapore is nearly five times the real income of the people in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the achievement level of community empowerment in realizing food security. The result was expected to reveal a model of community empowerment, particularly farmer community institution as an attempt to attain food security. Survey was employed as the research method that involved the farmers (farmer groups) as the members of Food Barn for the Village Community (Lumbung Pangan Masyarakat Desa/LPMD). Technique of rapid rural appraisal was selected in the form of quantitative and qualitative analysis. Preliminary survey in study area was carried out to obtain the characteristic and status of food security; and to mapping the potential and role of Lumbung Pangan Masyarakat Desa in the process of community empowerment. Subsequently, study and analysis was done based on the survey. The results demonstrated the active role of stakeholders (A-B-G-C) was significant in supporting the farmer institution (food barn). The economic and social aspects were also evidenced to have important role in enhancing the farmer community empowerment. This model is called social engine for rural community and local institution, particularly to attain the regional food security.

Abstract

This study attempted  to identify internal condition of the farmers who sold their paddy field and analyze the effects of age, education level, number of family members, field productivity, location, and production cost to the total area of paddy field sold. This study used quantitative descriptive method. This research found that age, education level, number of family members, and location of the land had positive relation to the total area of paddy field sold. On the other hand, production cost and field productivity had negative relation to the total area of paddy field sold. Partially, field production and number of family members had no significant effect to the total area of paddy field sold.

Abstract

This research aim is to analyze local expenditure quality in East Java based on five construct variables. Each construct variables consist of 40 indicators. This research use secondary data is Local Government Management Evaluation Report each region in East Java. Data of local development use poverty, unemployment, Gini index, economic growth, GDP per capita, and Human Development Index. This research uses analysis Structural Equation Modeling. It uses to know appropriate indicators to improve spending quality. The result shows that from 40 indicators just there are 21 indicators which have reached criteria good expenditure quality. Effectively has influence to expenditure quality more than 50% to describe model variation in local expenditure quality. It means that East Java has high financial effectively in increase public service because quality expenditure increasing continuously each year.

Abstract

This paper analyses technical efficiency and return to scale in the Indonesia economy during the year of 1967 to 2013. These range of years covering two eras of Indonesian government; the New Order era that lasted between the year of 1966 to 1998 and the Reformation era during the year 1998 to 2014. The analysis was also based on the Indonesia economy’s business cycle those categorised as Oil Booming Phase (1967-1981), Recession Phase (1982-1986), Deregulation Phase (1987-1996), Multidimension Crisis Phase (1997-2001) and Economic Recovery Phase (2002-1013). Using data on Gross Domestic Product based on constant price of the year 2000, capital stock with the same based year and employment (1967-2013), Cobb-Douglas production functions were exercised to calculate technical efficiency and  return to scale employing regression analysis tehniques. The results show that technical effiency during the New Order Goverment were better than those during Reformation Goverment.
