Abstract

Semarang District is an area which one of its focuses is on improving regional economy mainly based on agricultural sector. The agricultural activities which still depend on lands make those are considered having an important role. It is supported with regulations which protect the functional changes of farm lands, especially the irrigated ones. However, during a period of 2010-2014, the irrigated farm lands were reduced. A strategy to protect those irrigated farm lands is highly necessary, that is, by considering criteria to prioritize on protection of the irrigated farm lands in Semarang district. This study uses a method of Analysis  Hierarchi Process (AHP) with a purposive sampling technique to collect 10 respondents. A protection strategy on Irrigated farm lands in Semarang district consists of several criteria with a prioritized program criterion of sustainable land and water utilization (0.322). The following criteria are optimization of irrigation network performance (0.241), law (0.186), economy (0.160), and social (0.091). There are some suggestions after conducting this study, such as providing education and socialization of legislations of law on farm land protection especially the irrigated ones, construction of reservoirs and dams, utilization of organic materials on farm lands management, irrigation network rehabilitation, strengthening legislations on protection of farm lands, authorities’ closer controls and supervisions, facilitation in obtaining agricultural inputs to improve welfare by empowering families, owners, and managers of those irrigated farm lands, as well as escorting policies on layout and regional plans to maintain the wide agricultural areas of irrigated farm lands.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest exporting countries, mainly of food products and chemicals. However, its import-export data show that the high export value on chemical commodities and food product is followed by relatively high import value on those commodities. This study examines the comparative advantage of Indonesian export commodities. The analysis is conducted by mapping and analyzing the condition and the potential of Indonesian export market in various trading partner countries. In addition, this study identifies the potential, opportunities, and challenges that Indonesia will face to improve the market of its export commodities. The testing of comparative advantage is carried out using chemical commodities. RCA is a method that is used to analyze the competitiveness of Indonesian export commodities. The results of this study indicate that chemicals have a comparative advantage with the value of greater that 1 during 2012-2016, but the import of chemical raw materials also tends to be higher. Featured commodities are inseparable from challenges and obstacles, such as dependence on main export destination countries, economic crises, and relatively high import value of raw materials. However, the opportunity of Indonesia to increase the contribution of the export to national income is still wide open. Maximizing the potential of market diversification strategy that is implemented by Indonesian government is expected to increase the export of Indonesian commodities.

Abstract

This study analyzes factors affecting rice production and consumption in Indonesia from 1990-2014, the data source is from Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The method used is model of multiple linear regression equation with ordinary least square estimator (OLS). Our findings indicate that rice production can be affected by human capital, labor, wages, wetland, urban population, and rice prices; on the other side, technology has no effect on rice production. Other findings on the rice consumption model were influenced by human capital, per capita income, population, and consumption the previous year, and meanwhile, rice prices has no effect to rice consumption in Indonesia. It’s an important note for the government in making the right program policies such as the development of better irrigation systems, empowering the farmers by providing regular training, subsidizing material inputs to farmers, expanding farmland for farmers. Meanwhile, the government needs to create policy such as food diversification, price stabilization security, the increase of rice stock, and other agricultural policies.

Abstract

implemented in fact it does not negates the poor, but at least they try to reduce the amount. Indonesia so far has various poverty programs aimed at different groups based on the primary target, ranging from household (cluster one), a community or group of communities (clusters two), and small and medium enterprises (cluster three). This study aims to look at the effectiveness of the implementation of the government's poverty programs mainly intended for households. Specific target to be achieved is nothing but a refinement of the targeting mechanisms and beneficiaries of the program. The results are expected to contribute to the policy assessments of poverty alleviation program and their perfecting in the future. Analyzes used data of Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) in 2007 and 2014. In accordance with its objectives, there are three policies that would be seen its impact on household welfare indicators, namely the health policy (ASKESKIN), consumption policy (BLT) and education policy (BSM). The test results show if the three policies programs targeting households poverty alleviation do not have the same effect on the changes in household income. Direct cash assistance (consumption policy/BLT) was most effective compared to other programs. Therefore it can be concluded if these three programs have different effects at different time periods, so it must be applied in accordance with the needs.

Abstract

Nowadays, the development of Sharia Banks (SB) in Indonesia showed positive results. However, the development of SB is still slow because their competitiveness levels are far from the conventional banks, which is proven by the small amount of market shares. One of the efforts to gain competitiveness is by maintaining efficiency that it can give magnificent boost to the development. This paper aims to estimate factors that are affecting efficiency of Sharia banks in Indonesia. The use of panel data of 11 public SB from 2012 – 2016 and random effect regression illustrate how CAR, ROA, ROE, NPF, FDR and Number of Branches (NB) affect efficiency. In particular, we use Operating Expense Ratio (OER) to determine the efficiency level of Sharia Banks. The estimation finds that ROA, FDR, NB have reverse correlation toward OER, NPF has positive effect, and CAR as well as ROE are not significantly affect OER.

Abstract

This paper concluded that domestic credit provided by banks in home country is affected by interest rates from abroad. And its effect on credit depends on the intensity of the foreign shock’s influence towards income in contrast to cost from interest in the balance sheet of banks of the home country. Conversely, a monetary contraction reduces the amount of credit provision by bank, with a delayed response (lag). And both monetary policy of home country and interest rate of abroad gives important effect on the provision of domestic credit.

Abstract

The main objective of this research is to formulate a participatory and inclusive model of economic development by optimizing the potential of local resources in Kebumen regency, Central Java, Indonesia by 1) identifying local resource-based economic potentials to be developed into pilot projects in regional development, 2) analyzing factors affecting the success of potential development, 3) analyzing the needs that influence the increase of community and stakeholders participation in regional development activities. This study uses Geographic Information System to map economic potential, Analytical Hierarchy Process to analyze factors that influence community participation, and ATLAS.ti to analyze needs and activities in developing leading sectors. The analysis shows that the economic potential in Kebumen district is focused on the potential of natural resources which include forestry, agriculture, fisheries, plantations and livestock. The regional development needs to be carried out thoroughly from upstream to downstream. AHP analysis shows that the factors that influence the success of potential development are internal, institutional and external factors. Needs analysis shows that the community holds an important role but must be supported by other stakeholders, namely the government, business actors and academics. This study recommends upstream-downstream development through nature-based ecotourism. The upstream sector that must be prepared is natural conservation combined with access to accessibility. The concept of back-to-nature developed in ecotourism must be supported by the provision of facilities and infrastructure that allows visitors to reach and enjoy the nature's beauty. In the downstream sector, tourism support services such as culinary and souvenir typical of Kebumen regency become an important part and need to involve all elements of community, especially those around the tourism destinations.
