Abstract

Bandung, which known as Flower City and Paris van Java, is a city tourism destination for domestic tourists and international tourists. Bandung becomes shopping and culinary travel destination. The consumption for plastic and garbage increases by the increase of tourists. Bandung suffers for garbage problem. To prevent it happens again to Bandung, it needs a campaign for garbage problem solution. It only takes three steps for decrease the garbage problem. The three steps are ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’. Tourists can help to keep clean and comfort for Bandung environment. The campaign itself can be accessed in internet with smartphone, which is common for young generation. Information can easily spread and hope it becomes a good habit for Bandung tourists.

Abstract

Bandung is the capital of west java province in Indonesia. It was referred to Paris van Java because of the beauty. Nowadays, since access to the city of Bandung is easier both domestically and international, Bandung become the travel destination. Like other travel destination in Indonesia, Bandung known as shopping and culinary tourism destination. To differentiate Bandung with other destination city in Indonesia, it need a differentiator that will help to characterize the city. A character design that used as a soft tourism campaign is needed. It will become the ambassador to persuade the target market to come and love Bandung as a city tourism destination. First of all, mascot will be a good way to represent and branding the city. The mascot should be developed to represent a culture and positive image of the city and become the pride for its citizens. Object of this study was Cepot from wayang golek Sunda. The Research covers visual aspects, philosophical and ideological. Every character designs are influenced by the culture. Each culture has different visual traditions with different ideological backgrounds. The best approach before make a character design, is to recognize the character design in every culture. How a culture affect the human figure and its visual style and the living creatures. The character culture can be found in its design history, anatomy and story. It become the basis of the new character creation.

Abstract

Article discusses the importance for a designer to understand about psychology and consumers? behaviors that act based on their feelings. Human as a complicated living creature has lot of feelings before making a reaction. The reaction itself is based on their own feeling from their experiences or the others? before. In our daily life, we think a lot based on our feelings. We associate a stimulus with an unconscious physical or emotional response. A designer often needs to make a promotion, branding, and campaign for a product or something else. So, it is important for designers to know their targets and behaviors. By understanding their target behaviors, it is easier to predict or to design the reaction and response when the product or campaign is launched. The understanding of the psychology study is important for a designer as well as understanding the other branch of study beside their own study about aesthetics. When the designer understands a lot of things, they can make a creative, good and useful visual communication.

Abstract

In a visual communication, the main thing is a communication which can solve the existing problems, not just as something beautiful to look at and considered. The most important part in designing visual communication when the communication is correct, attractive and persuasive. Semiotic understanding becomes important to study in the early stages of designing a visual communication that is intended to improve the effectiveness of communication. Semiotic itself is the study of the meaning of a sign in a particular context. To more easily understand the meaning of the sign, then the practice of visual meaning in the form of character design is made. This study was conducted to make students understanding of the meaning of a sign in a particular context through self-exploration. With the relation between the object being studied by each individual then a design experience will arise. This experience will create a more meaningful and in-depth exploration to students in the understanding of their studies about the meaning of a sign in a particular context. This study is used the method of visual exploration strategy that is commonly used by designers to convey the idea.

Abstract

Although Constructivism Theory of reality is categorized as a Subjective Theory, in terms of the construction process, it also had an objective feel. This could be observed in the three forms of realities that became the entry concept, namely: Objective Reality, Symbolic Reality, and Subjective Reality. The aim of this study was to analyze and understand a cultural tendency today's society through the lens of a philosophical. The philosophical theory of culture which had been regarded as something far beyond the reach became clear glasses in a tendency to see and understand the socio-cultural community. This research told about the dangerous of socio-culture community that could affect someone?s life. In this case was people who suffer anorexia and bulimia. This phenomenon could be avoided by doing campaign and some advertisement about the danger of this disease. The research method was assessing visual data in the form of a social campaign poster, study or library research, strengthened with the supporting theoretical basis study. In this research, the data obtained from photo documentation, literature study through books and scientific studies regarding social issues related to the theme. This research finds out that society, in general, is associated with the philosophical and socio-cultural studies. It is expected to occur a parallel relationship between disciplines (social, cultural, philosophical) and practices that occur in people's daily behavior.

Abstract

A design may not be created instantly, without going through a process of creation. At the beginning it all starts from nothing, blank. It requires a visual research to make a visual communication. Without a visual research, the design will not have a strong meaning to be communicated. When an idea is created, the next step is to generate the idea to become a design. The first thing a designer to do is drawing a line. Line is one of the design basic elements. In the journey to make a good design, a designer requires a visual record to assist her/him in remembering what is important. A visual record contains not only visual things seen by eyes, but also the perceived things. What is felt at the moment is important because it is easier to forget than visual memory. Sense is an important element in design. A good work will easily be communicated not only by visuals but also from senses. The study was conducted as an insight into the process of making a visual record of nirmana using visual recording method in the exploration of dots and dashes. This method was used to sharpen the sensitivity of students to dots and lines. Initially, the students visited a traditional market to do the visual research. After that, they created a visual record in the form of the composition of dots and lines in nirmana to remember the taste, smell, and visual experiences.

Abstract

The use of plastic as packaging food and beverages has increased along with the development of technological and cultural changes in society. But this change has not been followed by an adequate understanding of the various types of plastic and usefulness. Symbols and information system on packaging become important information for consumer and visual communication designer. Based on field research, literature research and desktop research, the author summarizes that the information in the form of significant symbols are important to be put on the design of plastic packaging for food or beverage. During this time, several foods and beverages in plastic packaging have included the plastic code. But generally consumers do not have enough knowledge about these codes. This is where the role of visual communication designers becomes an important. Symbols and information systems which prepared in well design will be more easily to understand. With easily understandable symbol and information systems, consumer certainly would be wiser to choose and avoid the negative impact during the bad use of food and beverage plastics packaging.
