Abstract

Street magic has similarity with close-up magic, but what’s make it different are the way how the magician perform it and where it happened. Street magicians can almost perform their tricks in anywhere and anytime, even with preparation before it. But usually street magicians perform their tricks in some public spaces, with number of crowd that cannot be calculated. This makes the trick that the magician performed is leaked to people around there, this happened because there’s no safe space or some personalspaces that magician can keep while they’re performing some tricks. The research method are doing some survey (direct & indirect) by doing some interviews to street magicians and observe some street magic videos and then doing review with personal spacestheory. The result shows that the layout of the space can optimize how street magician works. The conclusion is the designed space already appropriate.

Abstract

Tourism in Bali has significant effect to Balinese social aspect.  It can be seen from the Balinese people daily behavior that has changed from traditional society to modern and diverse society.  The conviction to conserve traditional pattern of life and behavior is still exists in the Balinese society and their posterity, but in the other side, tourism development and economical urgency creates difficult situation to conserve the purity of Balinese cultural tradition.  This situations influence Balinese cultural products created nowadays, such as architectural spaces that represent the people within.  The changes occurring in traditional Balinese houses happened mostly in concentrated tourism areas, such as Ubud.  In the government urban development plan, Ubud is selected as one of strategic tourism point of interest that is cultural tourism.  Consequently, Ubud also functions as strategic economic income resource for Bali.  The changes in traditional Balinese houses mostly happened because of the need to adapt with socio-cultural context, where local tourists and expatriates come and even stay for longer time.  To accommodate tourist’s needs, Ubud villagers set off to open restaurants, cafes, art galleries, souvenir shops, and travel agents in their houses.  These commercial areas are located in their traditional houses, with modification of rooms or even addition of rooms with other functions.  This research focused on the space transformation to commercial spaces in traditional Balinese houses.  There are abundant philosophical values that have to be conserve in traditional Balinese houses between generations.  Those philosophical values have sacred meanings within its design elements, such as building orientation, building elevation, facades, borders and zoning.  With the addition of commercial places, how do The Ubud people managed to continue their tradition and the values within? Therefore, the main problem that is being researched here is about the collision between the need to adapt to socio-cultural context in the society and the need to conserved cultural traditions in the family and their sacred meanings.   Keywords: human adaptative behaviour; space transformation; traditional house; Ubud

Abstract

Murals as educational media are a means of student development and good social life. Simpay Asih Kindergarten needs other learning media in teaching its students so that murals can be an alternative. Murals also provide motivation in learning. Another impact of a mural is to create a beautiful and positive space. Mural painting is painting in stages. Concepts and sketches are the first stage, then proceed to the preparation of the walls as a medium for painting, and the last stage is the final touch. Teachers and students of Simpay Asih Kindergarten welcomed the implementation of this mural, so that a positive response was obtained. With enthusiasm, the mural can have a positive impact on Simpay Asih Kindergarten students. Keywords: mural; education; kindergarten

Abstract

Paper is one kind of waste which are abundantly available. Although the use of writing or printing paper is significantly reduced since many writing activities have moved to digital means, however other paper products such as cardboards are significantly increasing. This is a result of the increase in online shopping activities where most of the goods are being delivered in cardboard packages. One of the craft topics for Level 7 of Junior High School from the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture includes the recycled paper or other paper products to be transformed into other functions. Hence, cardboard is very suitable to be used as a learning object. As cardboard also has a certain structure which consists of 3 layers of cardboard, the middle is corrugated paper, hence the students could learn to manipulate cardboard into an interesting product. As the workshop was being conducted online there were some techniques that had to be adjusted in terms of material delivery strategies and teaching methods. The workshop method conducted by a community service team consists of university lecturer and university students who gave a mini-workshop session for the 7-grade school students. The students were invited to employ their crafting skills using commonly available recycled cardboard material.

Abstract

The city of Indramayu is in the province of West Java which was influenced by Dutch and Chinese culture which left historical buildings. Several previous studies that have been carried out in Indramayu City put more emphasis on historical buildings as the main objects and architectural objects that are considered important by researchers. This study aims to map buildings with Chinese cultural influences in the Chinatown of Indramayu City and identify current historical conditions to clarify which Chinese cultural influences are. This research method is a qualitative description with an analysis of the cultural studies approach. Observation, interviews and documentation are data collection techniques in this study. The results of this study found a typology of mapping of historic buildings in the Chinatown area of Indramayu which can be described and searched for common threads. From the results of the data collection, it can be seen that the elements of Chinese architecture that can be recognized from these buildings are very thick, so that they are clearly part of the historical evidence of the development of Indramayu City as an important city in sea trade. This research is expected to be the basis for producing a document that is used as a guide for further researchers.
