Abstract

A conventional technique of protein analysis is laborious and costly. One rapid method used to estimate protein content is near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), but the cost is relatively expensive. Therefore, it is necessary to find a cheaper alternative measurement such as measuring the bioelectrical properties. This preliminary study is a new rapid method for classified modeling of wheat flour protein content based on the bioelectrical properties. A backpropagation artificial neural network (ANN) was developed to classify the protein content of wheat flour. ANN input were bioelectrical properties, namely capacitance, and resistance and output was a type of the flour, namely hard, medium and soft flour. The result showed that the ANN model could classify the various type of flour. The best ANN model produces a mean square error (MSE) and regression correlation (R) of 0.0399 and 0.9774 respectively. This ANN model could classify the protein content of wheat flour based on the bioelectrical properties and have the potential to be used as a basic instrument to estimate the protein content.

Abstract

One of the problems in the sugar industry is lack of low cost, simple and accurate measurement techniques for sugar recovery of sugarcane in the field or laboratory. This study investigated the potential using of bioelectrical properties as a non-destructive technique for this purpose. A parallel plate capacitor was developed to measure the bioelectric properties of sugarcane in a lateral and longitudinal position of the samples. Eighteen internode samples from 3 sugarcane varieties were measured within 0.1-10 kHz frequency range of LCR meter and then was analyzed sugar recovery in the laboratory. The result showed that in the lateral position are more capacitive and resistive than the longitudinal position. Artificial neural network (ANN) was developed for prediction of sugar recovery as a function of bioelectrical properties. The best ANN model produces a high accuracy in the lateral bioelectrical measurement position with a correlation coefficient (R) > 0.90 and mean square error (MSE) <; 0.05. It showed that the ANN model based on bioelectrical properties had the potential to be developed as a simple technique to predict the sugar recovery of sugarcane.

Abstract

Supply chain has a principal role in supporting the development of milk processing industry. The supply chain of the dairy industry in Indonesia involves a number of actors and a variety of dairy handling that may lead into potential risks and failures. One of the risks affecting supply chain performance is the adulteration of raw materials. This condition can possibly result in the occurrence of chain’s effect. Thus, it is necessary to build a dynamic model to handle such problems. Dynamic modeling was used in this study. For the initial phase, determination of supply chain risk factor was investigated. Second, modeling of supply chain mitigation risk was conducted by using dynamic system. Dynamic models were used to analyse complex problems with many variables involved. The problem analysis results were modeled in a dynamic system that has an aim to reduce the risk of adulteration. This research has successfully constructed a model consisted of one main variable that can potentially reduce the risk. The foremost recommended strategy was to improve the transparency of supply chain management.

Abstract

Pinogu sub-district is an organic area in Bone Bolango district, Gorontalo province with abundant cattle potential. Behind a large number of cows in the Pinogu area, a new problem arises in the form of cow manure scattered on the streets. One of the technologies developed to overcome this problem is the introduction of biogas as a solution for utilizing cow manure which is environmentally friendly renewable energy. The digester model produced is a tubular HDPE (high-density polyethylene) geomembrane that has the advantages of being cheap, durable, and suitable for construction in the Pinogu area which has shallow groundwater characteristics. The process of constructing the digester was carried out for 10 days at the house of a resident in Pinogu Induk Village with the stages of site survey, design of the biogas installation unit, introduction, and training on constructing the digester to test the flame. Gas can be used after 5 days of filling cow dung into the digester. In addition to biogas, the remaining results of fermentation and degradation of cow dung can be used as liquid or solid organic fertilizer. It is hoped that with the construction of the HDPE geomembrane model biogas, the community will be able to take advantage of the potential of cow dung as an alternative fuel or renewable energy that is environmentally friendly.
