Abstract

Beratan Lake is one of the lake in Bali which serves as place for agriculture, aquaculture, as well as tourism and recreational attractions. The growing number of facilities around the lake potentially increases the number of waste discharge to the lake as most of the industry do not equipped with necessary waste management plant. The aim of this study is to assess the water quality in Beratan Lake and later be used to improve the water management. Method: Five stations for water sampling were purposively chosen as representation of each side of the lake. The coordinate locations were recorded by Epicollect. Nine water quality parameters were measured for each water samples from each station: temperature, pH, total dissolved solids (TDS), dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), phosphate, nitrate, turbidity, and fecal coliform. The water quality were calculated based on National Sanitation Foundation Water Quality Index (NSFWQI). Result: NSFWQI for water of Beratan Lake was 78 which indicates good quality. Although this result has been satisfying, fecal coliform and pH showed score lower than 55, thus, the two parameters need to be modified to improve water quality for further use.

Abstract

Buyan Lake and Tamblingan Lake are known as twin lakes in Bali which serve not only as water sources for agriculture and households, but also as tourist destinations. Infrastructure development and the up-surge of tourism activities potentially increase the contamination of lake water in Bali. The aim of this study was to investigate the quality of water in Buyan Lake and Tamblingan Lake based on physical, chemical, and biological parameters. Five sampling sites (stations) were purposively chosen in each of the lakes. Physical parameters (temperature and total dissolved solids) and chemical parameters (dissolve oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, pH, phosphate, ammonia, nitrate, and heavy metal) were measured from each station. Coliform and fecal coli were also tested to assess biological contamination. The level of contamination were compared to the Bali Governor Regulation no 16 Year 2016 on Water Quality Manage-ment and Pollution Control. Among 14 parameters being measured on Buyan Lake water samples, two of them did not meet the standard water quality 1: BOD (2.19 ± 0.64 mg/l) and COD (49.18 ± 28.70 mg/l). While, wa-ter samples from Tamblingan Lake had 3 parameters above the standard water quality 1: COD (62.92 ± 17.93 mg/l), phosphate (0.23 ± 0.19 mg/l), and coliform (3319 ± 7090 MPN/100 ml). In general, water samples from both lakes did not meet the criteria for potable water neither for recreational activities. High COD in both lakes indicated high organic contaminants.

Abstract

Background: workplace is an important setting for health promotion on physical activity programs. Establishing PA intervention in workplace is believed to give more substantial impact than in many other communities. However, the effectiveness of the physical activity intervention in occupational space has been questioned. Physical activity is a convoluted and varying behavior, and the ability to measure the association between physical activity and chronic diseases is strongly dependent on the validity of the tools. Objective: The goal of this study is to review the type of measurements, reliability and validity of instruments/methods of measuring occupational PA. Method: Relevant peer-reviewed journals were collected from two electronic database, Medline and PubMed, using advanced search strategy and eligibility criteria. Results: The searching strategy has generated 413 articles in total and the criteria have narrowed the result to 12 relevant articles. The BRFSS, the IPAQ-L, the MOSPA-Q, the OSPAQ and the OPAQ have been proven to have good reliability. However, these questionnaires showed poor to moderate criterion validity, thus objective measures of occupational PA, such as accelerator, is still the best option. Abstract

HIV / AIDS cases among MSM (male sex men) in Indonesia from year to year have increased significantly. Meanwhile, Bali is a province with many HIV / AIDS cases, where Denpasar is the city with the highest number of MSM. There has never been a report on sexual behavior and HIV / AIDS prevention among MSM in Denpasar. Therefore, the researchers wanted to explore the problems of sexual behavior and its prevention in MSM in Denpasar. Purpose: This study aims to obtain a vision of sexual behavior and HIV / AIDS prevention among MSM groups in Denpasar City. This study used a qualitative design with a phenomenological approach to digging deeper into sexual behavior and HIV / AIDS prevention among MSM in Denpasar City. The selection of informants in this study was taken using convenience sampling technique and conducted in-depth interviews with 10 MSM who were productive and communicative in Denpasar. After collecting data in the field, the data will be analyzed thematically. In sexual intercourse behavior, most of the MSM prioritized variations and sensations during sexual intercourse to get sexual satisfaction, such as having group sex, using arousal-enhancing drugs, and violence engaging during sexual intercourse. Some of the informants only had one permanent sexual partner. However, there are still MSM who have more than one sexual partner and receive payment for sexual intercourse. Informants use condoms in sexual intercourse and with the PrEP method to avoid HIV / AIDS. It is necessary to conduct education and counseling on sexual orientation for the community, especially for adolescents looking for identity, educating MSM to reduce high-risk behavior during sexual intercourse. Abstract

The study of access to primary healthcare centers (PHCs) in the middle region of Indonesia, including Bali, is scarce. A study on primary healthcare access is worth undertaken in this region because it is usually given less attention regarding its fair distribution of healthcare facilities in relation to their population. This study aimed at determining geographical distribution and concentration of PHCs facility and demand in Bali Province. This study focused on the inpatient facility and demand of PHCs in relation to population. Data of PHCs’ inpatient facility and demand of each regency/city and population data were obtained from Bali Health Profile of 2015 to 2019. Location quotients (LQ) of inpatient facility and inpatient demand for each regency/city were calculated to determine the spatial concentration of the two variables compared to the provincial average. Our study found that there was variation in facility and demand for inpatient care in PHCs in Bali. A low level of inpatient facility and demand was seen in Regency of Buleleng, Denpasar, and Gianyar, while a high level of facility and demand for inpatient facility was observed in Regency of Jembrana, Tabanan, Klungkung, and Karangasem. A unique finding was also noticed in Bangli Regency, where the inpatient facility of PHC was high, while the inpatient demand was low. This might indicate a need for evaluation of the inpatient facility of PHC in this Regency. Keywords: Access to healthcare, Bali, inpatient care, puskesmas, primary healthcare centers.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Insecticides are used to reduce the number of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, a vector of the dengue virus that causes dengue hemorrhagic fever in Indonesia, including in Bali. However, in recent years, the resistance of the Ae. aegypti mosquito to insecticides has been reported in Bali. In addition, Ae. aegypti is also identified to be resistant to several types of insecticides whose resistance mechanism is not yet clear. Several studies have stated that the KDR genes are one of the causes of resistance to pyrethroid insecticides. Therefore, a study was conducted to determine the frequency of the KDR genes in the Ae. aegypti population in Denpasar, Bali which had been previously shown resistance to permethrin (type of pyrethroid). Forty-three females Ae. aegypti specimens from bioassay testing using permethrin stored in tubes containing 100% ethanol were used in this study. Each mosquito is put in a different tube. The mosquito DNA was then extracted. Three KDR genes, V1016G, V410L, and F1534C, were analyzed using the quantitative-PCR melt curve method at the Biomolecular Laboratory, FKIK Unwar. In this study, the mutation frequency of 1016G was 98%, 410L was 50%, and 1534C was 3.4%. The 410L mutant gene was shared by all specimens, although only in one allele (heterozygous). Of the 43 specimens, 39 had homozygous mutant V1016G, heterozygous V410L, and wild typehomozygous F1534C. It indicated that the frequency of the 1016G and 410L mutant genes is quite high, while the 1534C gene is low. The combination of the KDR 1016G and 410L genes was the most dominant found in permethrin-resistant Ae. aegypti specimens. Therefore, it is assumed that these two KDR genes play a role in forming permethrin resistance in Ae. aegypti.

Abstract

Payangan Public Market is one of the largest traditional markets in Gianyar Regency, Bali Province with a total number of 450 traders. The minimum information obtained by traders about the spread of COVID-19 causes their lack of implementation in the implementation of PHBS. According to research results, PHBS is a strategy that can prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the community. Traders must continue to be encouraged to improve PHBS in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19. However, in reality, the implementation of PHBS is very minimal in the Payangan Public Market. In addition, the lack of ability of traders to purchase personal protective equipment or PPE such as masks, Face Shields and Hand Sanitizers. This is due to the scarcity of PPE and also their lack of finances, where currently the price of PPE has soared. From the problems faced, the solution that can be offered is the need for a knowledge transfer program about the spread of COVID-19 to find out its prevention with the target of adding knowledge to traders about COVID-19 prevention and increasing the implementation of PHBS. In addition, programs to support the implementation of PHBS include technology transfer and training on how to make PPE, namely Hand Sanitizer, Face Shield and masks. The result of this activity is that partner groups play an active role in every PKM activity with a 100% attendance percentage and 100% active participation. With this activity, there was an increase in the field of understanding about COVID-19 and an increase in the implementation of PHBS through bringing in experts and tutors (coaches) who have assisted traders in the introduction of the COVID-19 virus and the application of clean and healthy living behavior to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. The partner group is also skilled in making PPE in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus, namely the manufacture of masks, Hand Sanitizer and Face Shield
