Abstract

The research was to evaluate the application of vermicompost and biochar for the growth and yieldsof ginger atharvested early. This research has been carried out in September to December 2017, in Gading Kulon Village, Dau District, Malang, and East Java.This study useda Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors and four replications. The first factor is the vermicompost application with 4 levels, namely K0 (0 kg/ploybag), K1 (0.5 kg/polybag), K2 (1.0 kg/polybag) and K3 (1.5 kg/polybag), while the second factor is the application of rice husk biochar with 4 levels, including B0 (0 kg/ploybag), B1 (0.5 kg/polybag), B2 (1.0 kg/polybag) and B3 (1.5 kg/polybag). Thus there are 16 treatment combinations, each repeated 4 times. Height, number of shoots, rhizome fresh weight, stover fresh weight, % dry matter of rhizome,%dry matter of stover, rhizome dry weight, stover dry weight, biomass dry weight, and harvest index are determined. Observation of plant height and number of shoots was carried out 5 times, namely at the 14, 28, 42, 56 and 70 days after planting.The results showed that the application of vermicompost fertilizer significantly affected plant height at the 56 days after planting and biomass dry weight, while the application of rice husk biochar had a significant effect on plant height at the 56 days after planting measurement, % dry matter of stovers, and biomass dry weight. There was not interaction between giving vermicompost fertilizer and rice husk biochar to all parameter,s observed. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengevaluasi pemberian pupuk kascing dan biochar terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksi tanaman jahe gajah saat panen muda. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan pada bulan September sampai dengan Desember 2017, di Desa Gading Kulon, Kecamatan Dau, Malang Jawa Timur. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) faktorial yang terdiri dari 2 faktor yaitu Faktor I adalah pemberian pupuk kascing, diberikan dengan dosis 0 kg/polybag (K0), 0,5 kg/polybag (K1), 1 kg/polybag (K2), dan 1,5 kg/polybag (K3). Faktor II adalah pemberian biochar sekam padi, diaplikasikan dengan dosis 0 kg/polybag (B0), 0,5 kg/polybag (B1), 1 kg/polybag (B2), dan 1,5 kg/polybag (B3). Dengan demikian terdapat 16 kombinasi perlakuan, masing-masing diulang sebanyak 4 kali. Pengamatan meliputi tinggi, jumlah tunas, berat basah rimpang, berat basah brangkasan, % berat kering rimpang, % berat kering brangkasan, berat kering rimpang, berat kering brangkasan, berat kering biomassa tanaman dan indeks panen. Pengamatan tinggi tanaman dan jumlah tunas dilakukan sebanyak 5 kali yaitu pada umur 14 hari setelah tanam (hst), 28 hst, 42 hst, 56 hst dan 70 hst.Hasil penelitian Pemberian pupuk kascing berpengaruh nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman pada umur 56 hst dan berat kering brangkasan tanaman jahe gajah. Pemberian biochar sekam padi berpengaruh nyata terhadap tinggi tanaman pada umur 56 hst, % berat kering brangkasan dan berat kering biomasa tanaman Jahe Gajah. Tidak ditemukan adanya interaksi antara perlakuan pemberian pupuk kascing dan biochar sekam padi terhadap semua para meter yang diamati.
