Abstract

This research aims to prove that EGRA technique (Experience, Generalization, Reinforcement,Application) can improve the students’ grammar mastery. It was conducted in State PolytechnicMadiun from April to September 2018. The subjects of the research were the second semesterstudents of English Department consisting of 27 students. This action research covered twocycles. Each consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In this research theresearcher employed qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Based on the research findingsfrom teaching-learning process in the two cycles, the researcher can draw some finalconclusions. The students’ response was very good after implementing EGRA technique. Thestudents were active in giving answer of each question.. It was also shown from the improvementof the mean scores in every cycle as follows : mean score in pre-test was 63, post test in the firstcycle was 70, and  post-test in the second cycle was 80. There was improvement in every cycle.Additionally, there were 24 of 27 students who got point up 75 in the second cycle, it means itwas 89 %. Based on the finding, the alternative hypothesis stating that EGRA technique canimprove the students’ grammar mastery. Keywords: Implementation, EGRA Technique, and Grammar Mastery

Abstract

There are some important aspects in teaching English especially writing skill such aslecturers as the mediator on teaching and learning process, the methods as the way totransfer the knowledge and train the skill, and the goal of the study as the aim of teaching. Allthe targets are based on how well they colaborate all aspects during the process of teachingand learning. Cognitive Strategy Instruction in Writing (CSIW)was chosen to know theeffectiveness, streghts, and weaknesses in improving the writing skill of the Second Semesterof English Study Program of Madiun State Polytechnic in the Academic Year of 2017/2018.The qualitative and quantitative data were used in this research. Qualitative data were takenfrom the scores of the pre-test of twenty eight studemnts from A class and all cycles of theresearch. The qauntitative data were taken through the observation, interview, andquestionnaire. Based on the discussions and conclusions, Cognitive Strategy Instruction InWriting (CSIW) is recomended to improve the writing skill of the Second Semester of EnglishStudy Program of Madiun State Polytechnic in the Academic Year of 2017/2018.  Keywords: CAR, writing skill, CSIW

Abstract

To compare differences in students learning outcomes and creativity about local culture before and after the application of the inquiry model of local culture, and as an evaluation of learning process related to subject namely Indonesian People and Culture are the aims of this study. This research was conducted in the fourth semester students of English Study Program consisting of 56 students. This action research had two cycles. Each consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. In this research the researcher employed qualitative and quantitative data analysis. Based on the research findings from teaching-learning process, the researcher can draw some final conclusions. The students’ response was very good after implementing inquiry learning model. The students were active in giving answer of each question. It was also shown from the improvement of the mean scores in every cycle as follows : in pre-test was 60, in the first cycle was 70, and in the second cycle was 85. Additionally, there were 50 of 56 students who got point up 75 in the second cycle, it means it was 90 %. Based on the finding, the alternative hypothesis stating that inquiry learning model can improve the students’ creativity of local culture. Abstract

Abstract Based on the result of preliminary study, it was found that students’ reading ability of second graders ofEnglish Department was considered low. This condition can be seen as the result of the pre-test in whichmost of the students scored lower than 68, since the institution in which this research took place gradedthe range score of 68 as “Good”. Therefore, an alternative method in reading activity was introducednamely SQ4R. SQ4R is a reading strategy which consists of 6 steps; survey, question, read, recite,relate, and review. There were 27 students involved in this research. The data were gathered from theresult of test in each Cycle, observation and FGD. The result of the research which was conducted intwo Cycle shows that there was significance improvement of students’ reading score in which 23 out of27 students (85%) of the students could score 68.  Keywords: reading, reading skill, SQ4R

Abstract

Pronunciation is one of the most important indicators of speaking and listening skill. It canchange the meaning of words and sentences when they are mispronounced. The features ofpronounciation can be devided into two such as segmental and supra segmental features.Segmental features consist of vowels and consonant while supra segmental features consist ofstress, intonation, and connected speech. The research was conducted at Madiun StatePolytechnic. The participants are the students of englis study program B class consisting of27 students in the academic year of 2018/2019. The Method of this research was RepetitionDrill of Audio-lingual Method. The aims of this research are; 1)to know that Repetition Drillof Audio-lingual Method can improve the students’ pronunciation of English vowels and 2) todescibe the process of teaching and learning activities of english pronunciation throughRepetition Drill of Audio-lingual Method.
