Abstract

Some psychologists and educationalists have explained various models related to students’ motivation in learning English language. One of them is proposed by (Gardner, 1988) who explained about the socio-educational model. This study reports data from the interview conducted to the English Department students of IKIP Siliwangi of Academic Year 2018/2019 about their motivation in English language learning. In this research, there are three students of English Department as the participants. In addition to the researcher, the instrument of this study is Interview which is applied to the three students based on their language ability levels; namely, high, moderate and low. This study belongs to Qualitative research because there is no statistical data presented. Instead, the data were collected by using structured interview and then, they were transcribed, categorized and interpreted. The findings revealed that there are three factors for the students that makes the students of English Department becomes more motivated in English language learning; namely, the teacher himself, the teaching strategies and games. Keywords: Students’ Perception, English Language, Traditional Classroom

Abstract

The objective of the study is to provide the students treatment and make the students easy in learning process of writing descriptive text, therefore to improve the students writing skills in English by using PWIM strategy. The participants are the 7th grade students of Junior High School at Cimahi in academic year 2019/2020 which consist of 32 students. The study using CAR with two cycles to observe the activities and responses of students in classroom. Result of the study could be seen from the improvement score from pretest to posttest 2 with a minimum score of 75 and maximum score of 85 in posttest 2. Keywords:  Writing, Descriptive Text, PWIM Strategy, CAR

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the use of personal and spatial deixis on the song lyrics of “Sunday Best” by Surfaces, and also to describe the meaning of this song. This study used the qualitative method. The writer used document analysis as the instrument of this study, while the data collection techniques that have been conducted listened to that music, collecting that song lyrics script on the internet, then analyzing the use of personal and spatial deixis on that song. The results of this study showed that personal deixis became the dominant type of spatial deixis. There are 30 data of personal deixis consisting of first, second, and third person deixis. Meanwhile, the writer only found 6 data of spatial deixis. The meaning has been found after the writer listened to this song and analyzed it using personal and spatial deixis. The writer notes that by using personal and spatial deixis it will make easily to catch the reference meaning that include who, where and why the utterance is uttered. Keywords:  Pragmatics, Deixis, Song Lyrics
