Abstract

This research aims to revealing profile of science process skills, profile of questions, and structure of conceptual presentation in physics textbooks on the subject of optical tools. The research method used is descriptive analysis with a quantitative-qualitative approach. Sample of this research are two physics textbooks based on the 2013 Curiculum those widely used as learning resources in Cilacap district. The results showed that both textbooks on the subject of optical tools more present aspects of basic science process skills than integrated science process skills. The percentage aspects of basic science process skills is 72,88% for book A and 87,32% for book B. Questions are more dominant to train students at the level application (C3) with percentage 66,67% for book A and 71,37% for book B. The structure of presentation of the concept in book A prepared directly on the discussion of optical tools, whereas in book B is explained about reflection and refraction firstly, then review the material of optical tools.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the profile of students? understanding of concepts and misconceptions and to identify the picture of students' mental models in explaining the phenomenon of light interference and diffraction. The type research is qualitative, and the research method used descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques used observations and three tier multiple choices test and semi-structured interviews. The results showed that the conceptual understanding of students grade XI MIPA 2 at SMA Kesatrian 2 Semarang in the light interference and diffraction material was included in the conceptual understanding category of 30%, 48% misconception and 22% did not understand the concept. The profile of students' mental models based on Ifenthaler level category in explaining the material of light interference and diffraction included at the level of the surface. While the type of mental model is based on the type of Sendur is scientific mental model possessed by students only reached 2.38%. The remaining 97.62% classified as alternative mental models.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the activities of computational practicum using logger pro software to improve student graphic representation in understanding the oscillation material. The sample are 35 students of class X Mipa 3 SMA 1 Bae in 2016/2017 decided by purposive sampling technique. The research instrument is a harmonic oscillation sheet and a description test that measures the ability of graphical representation. The research method used mixed method with concurent embeded design. Analysis of research data using comparative test t paired sample test and N - Gain test of student scores. Students found some synchronous oscillation characteristics between the results of the lab and the results of the analysis of six graphs from the plot logger pro. The results of pretest and post-test average score are respectively 20.85 and 43.73. Description of comparative test statistic yields tcount> ttable which means there is significant difference between pre-test and post-test value data, and N-Gain test is 0.29 which means there is increasing value in low category. It shows computational activity using logger pro, effectively improving students' ability in multiple graph representations to understand the characteristics of harmonic oscillations.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of understanding of the concept, the level of misconception, and the factors causing misconceptions that occur in students of class XI MIPA 2 in SMA Negeri 1 Purwodadi. This research is a mixture of qualitative and quantitative research. The instrument used in this study was a check-list; written test questions that are equipped with student confidence tables in answering questions or the Certainly Of Response Index (CRI); and interview guide sheets. The data collected is then analyzed to determine the students who will take the interview. Interviews were conducted with 9 students who had different levels of concept understanding. Furthermore, data from written test results and interviews are interpreted together with triangulation techniques to obtain conclusions from the research results. The analysis showed that the level of understanding of the concept of class XI students in SMA Negeri 1 Purwodadi on optical equipment material had a percentage of concept understanding of 16%, misconceptions of 55%, and did not understand the concept of 29%. The highest misconception is in the matter of the nature of mirrors and convex lenses in everyday events and special rays in convex mirrors with a percentage of 61%. Factors causing misconceptions among students include examples of questions given by teachers less varied, teachers are too fast in explaining the material, student worksheets are incomplete, there are no practicums that support learning, students do not pay attention, and do not record the material delivered by the teacher, students do not learn before the test takes place, students are not careful in answering questions, and students only memorize the material while learning without understanding the basic concepts of the material.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of contextual approaches learning (CTL) by local wisdom toward the understanding of students on the concepts of simple machine subject. The research method applied in this study was Mixed Methods with the sequential explanatory design. The first stage of the quantitative method was done to obtain data on the improvement of the understanding of concepts; the second stage of qualitative methods was to support the quantitative data. The sample taken for this study was the fifth-grade students of SDN 3 Troso, with some 30 students and the fifth-grade students of SDN 4 Troso, with some 32 students. The data collection techniques used in this study tested techniques in the form of multiple choice questions and non-test techniques consisting of interviews, and documentation. The results of the analysis of gain test on the understanding concept showed an increase in the experimental class which was categorized as moderate at 0.45, meanwhile, the control class was in the low category at 0.28.

Abstract

This research aims to develop of practicum elasticity module assisted by tracker software. This research method used the research and development and the development model used is descriptive procedural. In this research, a Likert scale was used to determine the level of feasibility and student responses to modules that have been developed. These stages consist of Initial observations product planning, product development, initial product trials, and product revisions. The results showed that the elasticity practicum module assisted by tracker software has relatively small uncertainty, namely 3.32%, and accuracy of 96.68%. The results of the module feasibility test get an average score of 85% with very feasible criteria. The details for the content feasibility component were 85%, the language eligibility component was 82%, the presentation feasibility component was 92% and the graphic eligibility component was 83%. While the score obtained from the responses of student respondents to the module is 91.25% with very good criteria

Abstract

This research aims to develop an instrument for assessing critical thinking skills on light wave topic which refers to Ennis's ten indicators of critical thinking. The type of the research is Research and Development (R&D) with ADDIE design. The data collection methods used were test, response questionnaire, and interviews. This research was conducted at SMAN 1 Jatisrono online using google form. A total of 20 essay questions were designed to be pre-trial tested in class XI MIPA 5 and produce ten appropriate essay questions then used for trial test in XI MIPA 1 and 2. The test instruments were declared worthy based on three categories, they’re expert judgment, reliability testing, and student responses. The percentage of eligibility of experts is 85.42%, it shows that the instrument is suitable for use. This instrument is declared reliable for use, with a reliability value of 0.71. The difficulty index of the test is on the medium and easy level with moderate discrimination index. The results of the critical thinking analysis show that as many as 40% of students have high critical thinking criteria. As many as 60% of students responded well to the test instrument.
