Abstract

This research was conducted in May 2014 in the western part of the RupatStrait Riau Province with its aims to determine the distribution of benthicforaminifera and sedimentation relative velocity. The determination of samplingpoints was done by using purposive sampling method. The sediments were taken byusing Eckman Grab then preserved with Rose Bengal mixed by formalin .The results showed that benthic foraminifera was found in higher amounts inthe north and south of the study site. By contrast, the smaller number was found inthe middle of the strait and the shoreline with the mangrove. These areas werepredominantly influenced by the high flow of current and mangrove area, withrelatively moderate sedimentation velocity. In West Rupat the waters was dividedinto 3 clusters based on the data distribution of benthic species foraminefera namely:group I was found in the northern, central and southern part of the study sites, characterized by dominating species of Reussella hayasakai, Textularia orbica andBolivina humilis and sediment classified as very fine sand; group II was found in thenorthern part of the study site with species that as dominated wereFissuripolymorphina aequicellaris, Rosalina Concina and Bolivina humilis with highorganic matter content in the study sites; group III was found in the southern part ofresearch location with the dominating species were Ammonia beccari, Textulariaarticulata and Textularia neoconica with the bottom sediments belonging to very finesand. Keywords : benthic foraminifera, sediment, Rupat Strait..

Abstract

The research was conducted in June 2015. The sampling and measurement of water quality were carried out in Sergang and Marok Tua coastal waters of Singkep Island, Riau Archipelago. This study was aimed to determine the distribution of benthic foraminifera and relative sedimentation rate in both areas. Survey method was used by taking samples from 2 stasions with 3 replicates at each stasion. Samples of sediments were taken and then analyzed to determine the number of individual, species, distribution pattern, the relative sedimentation rate and sediment fractions. The results showed that the number of individual of benthic foraminifera found in the wartes of Sergang were higher than in Marok Tua. In contrary the number of species of benthic foraminifera found in Marok Tua were higher than in Sergang. Sediment fraction in Sergang was dominated by fine sand and very fine sand. Based on Morisita index, the pattern of benthic foraminifera distribution was categorized as cluster. Results of the relative sedimentation rate calculation were divided into high in Sergang coastal waters that has limited antrophogenic activities with an average of 83.06 %. Lower sedimentation rate was found in Marok Tua with an average of 67.47%. Marok Tua coastal waters has more antrophogenic activities such as fishing boat activities, residential as well as tin and sand mining areas. Keywords : benthic foraminifera, sedimentation, mining, antrophogenic

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to reveal the depositional environmentand the movement of coastline. This study was conducted in January 2013 innorthern part of Rangsang Island, Meranti District. Sediment samples were takenfrom 11 station sand analyzed by using mechanical granular method. The methodof remote sensing linear regression was used to determine the movement ofcoastline. The result of study show that the surface bottom sediment ischaracterized by sand and mud fractions, and is dominated by bottom characterof sand. The study area was a transitional area where waves and currents werepredicted to change frequently through not too significant. The currents strengthtend to move with the fluctuations. The average change of the coastline during thepast 13 years (2000 to 2013) was 7,455 m/yr with the greatest changes occurredat station 7, i.e. Kedabu Rapat Village, with 8.54 m/yr. The speed movement ofcoastline was marked by the destruction of land cover in the north along the coastof the Rangsang Island as indicated by destruction of mangrove forests andvegetation coast, the sinking of jetty, roads and houses as well as the erosion.Kata kunci: movement of coastline, sediment coastal, Rangsang Island, abration.

Abstract

The main purpose of study is to find out characteristics of sediment and velocity of costline change in Meskom Village which is located off the Bengkalis district, Riau. Sediment samples collacted at 5 stations in coastal area of Meskom Village in November 2015 by the survey method. Station 1 and 2 in south of Meskom Village which is sedimentation area. Station 3, 4 and 5 in north of Meskom Village which is abrasion area. Coastline change analysis used image data by Landsat 5 TM (1995 and 2005) and Landsat 8 LDCM (2015) which processed by Quantum GIS 2.13.4.Meskom Village has characteristic of sediment medium silt in the south coastal area and very fine sand in the north coastal area. The results of sediment analysis mentioned above, skewness value indicated that abrasion and sedimentasion influenced of current and wave. Sorting value indicated that the sediment coastal of Meskom Village has unstable environmentally. Interpretation of image data mentioned that the most coastal increase (sedimentasion) at station 2, that is 29,77 meter/year seen from 1995 to 2015. While the most coastal decrease (abrasion) at station 4, that is 38,02 meter/year.Based on the result mentioned above, sediment characteristic able to explained influences the environment condition causes coastline changing in the some area. Keywords: Sediment, Coastline change, Abrasion, Remote Sensing

Abstract

This study was conducted in February 2016 in Dumai Waters, aimed to knows an illustration of sediment texture changes vertically in Dumai Waters. Sediments sample was collected by gravity core. Each sample collected was divided into 26 and 27 layers at 1 cm dense, therefore samples amount were 53 samples. Data was analyzed descriptively and was processed with cluster analysis. Based on the results, it was concluded that sediment type in Dumai Waters were categorized into fine sand, very fine sand, coarse silt, medium silt and fine silt. Cluster analysis showed of six groups sediment in research station. In station II all cluster group were found, while in station I only four were found. Each layer of different cluster showed diversity of sediment characteristic. This illustration indicated that difference of sedimentation process which caused by difference of waters condition from time to time. Keywords: Stratigraphy, Sedimentation, Characteristic, Cluster, Dumai Waters

Abstract

This reseach was conducted in March to April 2012, in Padang Beach ofWest Sumatra and in Integrated Oceanology Lab of Riau University. The aim ofthis research is to reveal the progress of abration happening in Padang Beach. Themethod used in this research is the survey one. The result of this reasearch showsthat abration happened at three research stations, the abration velocity at the firststation is 0,28 m/year, the second is 0,36 m/year and at the third one is 0,12m/year. The principle causes of abration process in Padang beach are the flow andthe great wave of the sea which signed by each characteristic and the flow that thebeach abrased easily, as the bigger of wave's energy and water's flow the faster ofabration will be.
