Abstract

This research aimed to find out the cultural meaning of verbal and non-verbal expression represented in the nyaébuh tradition of people in Aeng tong-tong, Saronggi, Sumenep. This research was a qualitative descriptive using an ethnographic method with ethnoscience analysis. Data were obtained from the interview result with two informants of verbal and non-verbal expression. It finds that this tradition in the form of almsgiving whereby the charity is devoted to the deceased in the hope that it can alleviate and erase the sins of the deceased, in addition to which it can increase unity, harmony, family, harmony between people and others. This research can provide the benefits of knowledge about the meaning contained in the tradition of nyaébuh, and it can give the Sumenep community’s insights about the meaning of tradition through verbal and non-verbal language expressions. Besides that, it can share knowledge about the culture and traditions of Madura for each different region.

Abstract

 This study reveals all Javanese language categories and expressions of the coastal community of Banjar Kemuning village, Sidoarjo district through the perspective of ethnolinguistic studies. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. This research uses ethnographic methods with the analysis model that is the ethnoscience model. The results of this study indicate that through the mindset and knowledge system of society, it has been found all kinds of Javanese language categories and expressions in their speech expressions in the form of a way of life in terms of livelihoods as fishermen and pond farmers, the names of fishing tools and pond farmers, the names of sea products, a set of terms of offerings and various rituals, mantra or prayers as well as local wisdom of the village community hidden behind verbal and non verbal expressions

Abstract

Abstract Javanese literary works are considered as high-quality literary works. This is closely related to the noble values ​​contained in Javanese literary works. The teachings or noble values ​​in this Javanese literary work are usually referred to as piwulang literary works, namely works that originate from religious values ​​or teachings that come from God. One of the Javanese literary works with piwulang nuances is Sêrat Bayanolah. This work tells about the journey of a panatagama at the Yogyakarta Palace in discovering the true essence of life. To understand this concept is not easy because in reality there are many deviant schools of thought and religion which can derail people from the right path. This research was conducted in a descriptive qualitative manner. The data source used was Sêrat Bayanolah by Raden Panji Natarata, which was collected by the Museum of Reksa Pustaka Pura Mangkunegaran, Surakarta. Based on the research results, it was found that the essence of man as a creature is not the same as the essence of God (God) as the Creator. Besides, interpreting the concept of life and death must be adjusted to Islamic teachings because in reality there are still scholars and knowledgeable people who still misunderstand the concept of life and death.
