Abstract

Background: Stroke is a burdensome disease. The prevalence of stroke has increased by 16% over the last 6 years. The biggest risk factor for stroke is hypertension, but consumption of animal products such as meat, fish, eggs, and milk is often associated with the onset of stroke. Objective: To examine the relationship between the frequencies of animal products consumption to the incidence of stroke in 2014/2015 on hypertensive people in 2007/2008.Method: This research was using case control design performed by analyzing longitudinal data derived from Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) 4 and 5 (2007/2008 and 2014/2015). The population of this study was Indonesian aged over 40 years who have been diagnosed with hypertension in IFLS 4.Results: The results of bivariate analysis using Chi Square test and Fisher's exact test found that the variables significantly associated with stroke diagnosis in IFLS 5 were IFLS 5 fish consumption (p=0.027; OR=0.47); IFLS 4 milk consumption (p=0.04; OR=2.97); IFLS 5 hypertension diagnosis (p=0.006; OR=4.03); IFLS 4 diabetes mellitus diagnosis (p=0.033;OR=8.91); and IFLS 5 diabetes mellitus diagnosis (p=0.041; OR=3.73), also IFLS 5 physical activity (p=0.00; OR=0.34).Conclusion: Fish consumption of 2 - 7 days per week and adequate physical activity is associated with a decreased risk of stroke in a population that has been diagnosed with hypertension. Daily milk consumption, hypertension diagnosis, and diabetes mellitus diagnosis may increase the risk of stroke.

The aim of this research is knowing the relationship of consumption of iron pills during pregnancy with the incidence of maternal anemia in Indonesia. Methods: Study was an observational analytic study with a cross sectional design using IFLS 5 data which taken in 2014-2015. Results: From the results of multiple logistic regression tests, the variables of education, mother?s residence and history of bleeding at delivery were significantly associated with the incidence of maternal anemia with OR (95% CI) sequentially 1.38 (1.003-1.92), 0.63 (0.46-0.88) and 1.74 (1.01-3.00). While consumption of iron-added pills during pregnancy was not associated with the incidence of maternal anemia in Indonesia (p = 0.760) and OR (95% CI) = 1.05 (0.76-1.43). Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between the consumption of poor iron pills during pregnancy with the incidence of maternal anemia in Indonesia. There was a significant relationship between maternal education, maternal residence and bleeding history at birth with the incidence of anemia in the mother.

Abstract

Abstract

Obesity prevalence in Asia was raising. Self-perception became an increasingly determinant predictor of a healthier lifestyle. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-perception and actual BMI among Indonesian and Taiwanese teenagers. This research was cross sectional and using participatory sampling of 415 participants from 6 high schools in Indonesia, and 717 participants from 7 high schools in Taiwan. The data was taken by enumerator using the Obesity Impact on the Quality of Life Perception Questionnaire (ObI-Q) and the Projective Test. Self-perception was statistically associated with actual BMI which state that obesity might be treated by hospital, clinics, or specialist (p0.001). Self-perception was also related to degenerative disease (p = 0.003) and social life (p = 0.04). Self-perception about sports stated that obese people could be as good as normal people (p=0.11). Most teenagers had the correct perception regarding ideal body image (p=0.04). The multivariable analysis showed that teenagers who did not have self-perception of desire to lose weight were 6.37 times more likely to have overweight than teenagers who had self-perception of desire to lose weight. Self-perception of desire to lose weight was a variable with major contribution to actual BMI among teenagers.
