Abstract

This research aims at analyzing the potential for social conflict, especially religious conflict related to the establishment of houses of worship in Jambi. This study was conducted by employing a qualitative research approach with a type of case study research. This research was conducted in three districts in Jambi (Telanaipura, Alam Barajo, and Kotabaru). The results show that as a plural city, Jambi is not spared from the conflict of the establishment of places of worship that occurred in three regions. However, the previous conflicts that occurred were not prolonged because the people of Jambi still adhered to the wisdom of the local culture in the form of Seloko Adat which internalized through family, education, and the environment. As a significant potential of a conflict resolution, however, the Jambi society in general are lack of understanding of Seloko Adat.

Abstract

The background of this research is related to two things, namely: how the forms of roles that can be carried out by the Merangin Regency Government in the era of globalization and how they affect the welfare of society public. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of government to improve the welfare of society in the era of globalization. The discourse of globalization gave rise to radical groups who thought that the government did not need to intervene in development because it was carried out by the private sector and were skeptical that it was precisely because of the many negative effects of globalization that it became an important entry point for that role. This study uses a qualitative approach by analyzing public policy from the Merangin District Government and community welfare data. The study results show that local governments play an important role in exploiting opportunities and preventing the negative impacts of globalization. In conclusion through a series of innovative and solutive policies, the Merangin District Government seeks to improve the welfare of the community by utilizing its local potential.

Abstract

This study is intended to analyze the implementation of policies carried out by the Merangin Regency Government of Jambi Province in order to increase the capacity of village apparatus. This study used Weimer and Vining's policy implementation, which consists of policy logic, policy environment and implementor capability. This research was conducted using a qualitative approach with a type of case study. Data collection was carried out by interviewing 11 respondents and reviewing data related to the research topic. After collected, the data were analyzed by data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on this research, it is known that in terms of policy logic, the Merangin Regency Government really understands the significance of the existence of village officials in managing existing resources, so it does Workshop on the Implementation of SISKEUDES and Provision of Village Technical Capacity Development (P2KTD) was held. The policy environment also supports the implementation of this policy through commitments conveyed by the Head of Regency, Head of the Merangin Regency Village Community Development Agency (PMD) and Heads of Sub-Districts. The ability of implementors consisting of village officials is still very limited in applying training materials in accordance with the potential context of their respective villages.
