Abstract

Following the trend of ICT in teaching and learning English, many higher education institutions have an intention to lead the students into a digital environment by using Edmodo as an online platform. This study investigates ESP (English for Specific Purposes) students’ experiences and challenges in using Edmodo. The data from this study were collected using questionnaires shared with 120 students and focus group discussions volunteered by ten students. The study revealed that the students frequently used Edmodo to help their academic achievement (x̄=3.63). They also regularly felt comfortable using Edmodo as their learning circumstances (x̄=3.61), and they occasionally had a problem using Edmodo (x̄=3.14). The focus group interview discovered that the use of Edmodo can motivate them to learn English since it is an effective tool that can be accessed everywhere and anytime, especially for doing assignments and quizzes, communicating with one another, and collaborating with students from other schools or countries. Moreover, although they did not find any difficulties using Edmodo, they were worried about answering the questions in quizzes and assignments because they might make typos, incomplete sentences, or incorrect answers. Importantly, the result can be expanded into online learning circumstances to a new standpoint that can efficiently manage virtual activities in learning English using Edmodo. For further work, it is recommended to investigate the students’ experiences and challenges of other e-learning platforms and their impact and motivation for the student's academic performances.

Abstract

Introduction: Ischemic stroke has become the leading cause of premature death in the last two decades. The biggest problem in preventing recurrence ischemic stroke is the compliance of the sufferers and the obedient behavior will arise only if they are consistent and have a strong intention. This study aims to determine the effect of behavioral counseling in increasing the intention to prevent recurrent ischemic stroke by using the theory of planned behavior model approach. Methods: Randomized Control Trial was conducted on 64 patients after an ischemic stroke that was managed by a public health center in East Java, Indonesia. Simple random sampling technique was used to take samples in this study. We provided behavioral counseling regarding the prevention of ischemic stroke recurrence to the treatment group using the Behavioral module which was compiled based on the guidelines from the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), while the intention variable was measured using the intention measurement instrument from the TPB Questionaries. The data obtained were then analyzed by using an independent t test. Results: The result revealed that there was a significant difference in the mean value of the intention variable between the control group and the treatment group after the TPB-based behavioral counseling intervention for 1 month (p=0.015). Discussion: The behavioral counseling of TPB-based can be implemented as an alternative way in increasing the sufferers’ intention to prevent recurrence ischemic stroke. Further research in a broader scope is needed to prove the effectiveness of behavioral counseling on the structural values of the Theory of Planned Behavior.

Abstract

Roasting occurs due to heat transfer from the heating surface into the material. Coffee roasting plays an important role in determining the chemical composition, aroma, and taste of coffee. There are two main types of coffee roasters, namely drum and hot air roasters. This research aims to determine the heat transfer in hot air coffee roasters. The data collected consists of roasting time, coffee bean temperature, roasting room temperature, fuel consumption and air flow speed in the cyclone system chimney and sample was carried out at medium roasting level, with three repetitions. The method used is theoretical analysis and experimental testing. The results showed that the heat transfer mechanism in hot air roasting is a conduction and convection mechanism. The amount of conduction and convection heat transfer in the coffee roasting equipment was carried out in three repetitions. It was also found that factors that influence the rate of heat transfer in hot air roasting equipment are due to conduction and convection, as well as influenced by heat transfer surface area, thermal conductivity, air flow speed from blower pressure and pressure on the gas fuel. The results of the research show that the heat transfer mechanism in hot air roasting is a conduction and convection mechanism. The amount of heat transfer in one repetition of the conduction quantity (Q) is 9222.8 W and the convection rate (Q) is 3209.4 W with an average efficiency of 34.7%, in two repetitions the conduction quantity (Q) is 9883.3 W and the convection rate (Q) is 3444.6 W with the average efficiency is 34.8%, at three repetitions the conduction (Q) is 9690.3 W and the convection rate (Q) is 1123.3 W, the average efficiency is 11.6%. Factors that influence the rate of heat transfer in hot air roasting tools are conduction and convection, heat transfer surface area, thermal conductivity, air flow speed due to blower pressure and pressure on LPG gas fuel.
