Abstract

Abstrak. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui karakteristik arang aktif kulit buah coklatyang digunakan sebagai adsorben Cd (II), waktu kontak optimum, dan massa adsorben maksimum yangdiperlukan untuk mengadsorpsi Cd (II). Metode yang digunakan berdasarkan metode isoterm Langmuirdengan menggunakan Spektroskopi Serapan Atom (SSA). Preparasi arang aktif dari kulit buah coklatdilakukan dengan cara karbonisasi pada temperatur 500oC. Pengaktifan arang dilakukan denganmenggunakan ZnCl2 9% selama 16 jam pada pemanasan 300oC dan 600oC. Adsorpsi dilakukan denganwaktu kontak 20, 40, 60, 80, dan 100 menit dan massa adsorben 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 dan 10 gr. Hasil arangaktif yang terbaik diperoleh pada suhu 600oC dengan kadar air 5,863%, kadar abu 9,863%, zat yangmudah menguap 8,356%, dan daya serap terhadap iod 816,583 mg/g. Kapasitas adsorpsi arang aktifterhadap Cd (II) adalah 94,075% dengan massa adsorben 6 gram dan waktu kontak optimum 60 menit.Kata kunci : adsorpsi, arang aktif, kulit buah coklat, logam kadmium(II)Abstract. The purpose of this research was to determine the characteristics of activated carbon fromcacao skin used as adsorbent of Cd (II), the optimum contact time, and the maximum mass of adsorbentrequired to adsorb the heavy metal Cd (II). The method used is based on the Langmuir isotherm methodand using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). Preparation of activated carbon from cacao skin wasconducted by carbonization at 500oC. Activation of carbon was conducted using ZnCl2 9% for 16 hours at300oC and 600oC. The Adsorption was conducted with contact time using of 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100minutes and adsorbent mass of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 gr. The best result of activated carbon was obtainat 600oC with water content 5,863%, ash content 9,863%, volatile substances 8,356%, and the absorptionof iodine 816.583 mg/g. The adsorption capacity of activated carbon of Cd (II) was 94,075% using 6grams of adsorbent mass and optimum contact time of 60 minutes.Keywords : adsorption, activated carbon, (Theobroma cacao.
