Abstract

Bahasa Indonesia untuk Penutur Asing (BIPA) saat ini sangat banyak sekali peminatnya terutama di kalangan mahasiswa asing. Beberapa negara baik di kawasan Asia, Australia, Eropa dan Amerika memiliki kelas BIPA yang dikhususkan bagi para mahasiswa asing yang ingin belajar bahasa Indonesia. BIPA telah menjadi bagian dari mata kuliah pilihan bahasa asing yang ditawarkan oleh Universitas di suatu negara, terutama untuk mahasiswa tingkat akhir. Di Eropa sendiri, pemelajar BIPA sangat banyak jumlahnya yang tersebar di beberapa negara seperti: Belanda, Jerman, Italia, Polandia, Perancis, Rusia, dan Spanyol. Sejak tahun 2011, bahasa Indonesia telah dijadikan sebagai mata kuliah bahasa asing untuk jenjang S-1 di Perguruan Tinggi di beberapa kota di Polandia, misalnya: Poznan, Torun, Krakow dan Warsaw. Setiap tahunnya, Kemenristekdikti lewat programnya yang bernama SAME BIPA mengirimkan dua orang tenaga pengajar untuk mengajar BIPA di Polandia. Untuk memberi gambaran umum tentang pengajaran dan pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di tingkat perguruan tinggi di Polandia, dalam makalah ini peneliti akan membahas beberapa hal seperti: (1) situasi dan kondisi pengajaran BIPA di Polandia dan (2) kendala yang dihadapi oleh pemelajar BIPA.   Kata Kunci: pengajaran, pembelajaran, bahasa Indonesia, Polandia     Nowadays, foreign students are very interested in learning the Indonesian Language. Some countries in Asia, Australia, Europe, and America have offered Indonesian classes as an optional course for students in the last semester of the university. In Europe itself, students of Indonesian classes are spread among the European countries such as: Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Poland, France, Russia, and Spain. Since 2011, the Indonesian language has become a course subject for Bachelor Degree in university level especially in Poland (Poznan, Torun, Krakow, and Warsaw). Every year, the Ministry of Research Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenristekdikti) through its program called SAME BIPA has sent two lecturers to teach BIPA in Poland. To give a brief description of teaching and learning the Indonesian language in university level in Poland, this article discusses (1) the situation of teaching BIPA in Poland, and (2) obstacles from the students who learnt the Indonesian language.   Key words: teaching, learning, Indonesian language, Poland

Abstract

Rendahnya minat baca menjadi permasalahan utama dan menjadi tantangan tidak hanya bagi pemerintah tetapi juga berbagai kalangan khususnya universitas dan pemerhati literasi. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan budaya literasi melalui pengelolaan Taman Bacaan di desa Kemiri Kecamatan Pacet Kabupaten Mojokerto. Program ini dilaksanakan untuk membantu memecahkan masalah rendahnya minat baca khususnya masyarakat desa. Pemberdayaan Taman Bacaan menjadi solusi untuk menumbuhkan kesadaran masyarakat desa tentang pentingnya membaca. Pengelolaan Taman Bacaan juga dibutuhkan untuk mendukung terlaksananya program literasi di desa dan untuk mewujudkan masyarakat yang gemar membaca.

Abstract

What makes learners shun speaking English in the classroom?Are they are shy, lack of confidence or afraid of making grammaticalmistakes? One of many ways to overcome this problem is by usingcooperative learning. In cooperative learning, the undergraduates areencouraged to work in small groups in order to create3-D miniaturemodels and finally gallery walk. In the Universitas PGRI Adi Buana(UNIPA), there is an activity named ―Amazing UNIPA Race‖. An activityencourages students to use verbal communication during Cross CulturalUnderstanding (CCU) class. Students work in small groups and must alsobe a team player. Amazing UNIPA Race promotes fun learning activityand students‘ creativity in creating 3-D miniature models. Therefore, thispaper is intended to share and provide an activity as a model wherestudents are motivated to speak and enjoy fun activities. This paper ispresented as a hands-on experience of the Amazing UNIPA Race to theparticipants who want to use it for their classroom teaching.

Abstract

Teaching material is needed in teaching-learning activities in the classroom. Without an appropriate material, a teacher might have difficulty in delivering the lesson, especially for children. TEYL (Teaching English to Young Learners) is a compulsory subject for the English Department students of Adi Buana University and this course is only offered for the final year students. To support TEYL course, undergraduates need to create English Teaching Materials that are useful for both teacher and students in school. Therefore, it is important to conduct this study in order to develop English teaching materials that meet the students‟ need. The author concerns on the authentic teaching materials made by the undergraduates. The final product of English teaching materials for young learners are Let‟s Count and Clip, Boggle, Noun Clipboard, What Time is It?, and Dominoes Card. All in all, these English teaching materials have been used in one of the private schools (BP school) to help children learn English. Based on the result, it can be concluded that Let‟s Count and Clip as the most popular material among the children. It is quite attractive and appropriate to help grade three of primary school learn English.

Abstract

Evaluating the English textbook used at one of the National Plus Schools in Surabaya (SNA), this study aims at finding out whether “My Pals are Here!” fulfill the objectives of teaching English and whether it is designed according to the principles of Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL). Further, the instrument of this study was the researcher herself and equipped with an Evaluation Checklist by Bilash (2009). Also, an interview with a teacher who has used that book in class provided for this research. Using the checklist, it was found out that “My Pals are Here!” is in accordance with the objective of teaching English at SNA, which is to help learners to be able to use English for communication especially orally. “My Pals are Here!” is also fulfill the principles of TEYL

Abstract

Young learners have very little opportunities in using English for communication in Indonesian classrooms. To overcome the problem, the teacher should think of interactive activities to encourage students in class. However, as teachers, they have to be aware in choosing the suitable activities for young learners. There are lots of activities for young learners such as: games, TPR (movement), music/songs, coloring, drawing, making things, and sorting/putting into categories. Well-chosen activities are helpful as they give children to have fun and at the same time allowing them to practice language skills. The activities that work in class should rules, instructions, time management, praises and rewards.This paper provides a brief overview ofinteractive activities that can be used to encourage young learners to participate more in class.These are the following selected activities that used for teaching English for young learners such as but first, mime a monster, five little elephants, draw the picture, draw your friend’s life, bingo, running dictation, hues your friend’s habit and “truth or dare”. In conclusion, it is hoped that all activities can make children become more active and they are willing to participate during the English lesson.

Abstract

Peguasaan dan pemanfaatan teknologi untuk menunjang keberhasilan pembelajaran sudah menjadi keharusan dan tuntutan di era Revolusi Industri 4.0, terlebih di masa pandemi COVID-19. Guru sebagai garda terdepan untuk kemajuan pendidikan dengan demikian harus membekali diri dengan teknologi pembelajaran berupa Sistem Manajemen Pembelajaran atau Learning Management System (LMS) seperti Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, Telegram dan lain sebagainya. Oleh karena itu, artikel ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan tentang pembekalan penggunaan Telegram Quiz Bot sebagai sarana pembelaran materi Bahasa Inggris, khususnya materi menyimak. Pembekalan diberikan kepada para guru tingkat SMA baik Negeri maupun Swasta yang tergabung dalam Musyawarah Guru Mata Pelajaran (MGMP) Bahasa Inggris di wilayah Surabaya. Quiz bot menjadi salah satu pilihan menarik bagi guru untuk mempermudah KBM secara daring serta meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran di masa pandemi. Hal itu karena Quiz bot memiliki beberapa manfaat lebih sebagai media pembelajaran materi menyimak yakni menyediakan sarana pembuatan soal pilihan ganda, fitur poling, deskripsi kuis, teks dan gambar, serta yang paling penting adalah audio. Selain itu, quiz bot mudah digunakan dan tersedia failitas audit di dalamnya.

Abstract

Media komik saat ini sudah sangat populer di kalangan mahasiswa. Penelitian ini fokus pada penggunaan ketrampilan menulis dalam bentuk komik, terutama bagi pemelajar BIPA yaitu pemelajar asal Vietnam. Desain dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah komik dapat dijadikan sebagai media pendidikan yang membantu para pemelajar BIPA Vietnam terutama dalam keterampilan menulis untuk belajar lebih efektif lagi. Bukan hanya karena komik sebagai salah satu media pembelajaran, tetapi komik sudah dikenal baik oleh para pemelajar BIPA di Vietnam. Untuk mencapai peningkatan hasil belajar bahasa Indonesia terutama dalam ketrampilan menulis, penggunaan media komik dianggap lebih efektif karena dikemas dengan cara menarik yaitu dengan menggunakan gambar dan kata-kata yang mendukung. Kata kunci: kesalahan berbahasa, penggunaan kalimat, komik Abstract Comics are well-known among students in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. This paper aims to discuss and explore the usage of a comic book to construct sentences in the Indonesian language lessons for BIPA (learners in University of Social Sciencs and Humanities). A qualitative method is designed in this research for the outcomes. From 17 students who joined the BIPA class, there were thirteen students (70%) who stated that Cartoon Story Maker is very interactive to be used in the teaching learning Indonesian language in the class. Another difficulty that they face is mostly the use of Indonesian language (47.4 %), such as: spelling and lack of vocabulary in making sentences and conversations. It took approximately 2-3 hours to create a story using Cartoon Story Maker. Comics can generate ideas for BIPA students in Vietnam in learning the Indonesian language in a fun and effective manner, especially in writing skills. Since a comic book is full of illustrations, it enhances the undergraduate students’ understanding immediately and they are able to produce sentences with minimal help from the lecturer. Therefore, it is hoped that comics can be an edutainment tool in promoting writing in the classroom. Keywords: language error, usage of sentences, comics

Abstract

Since TOEFL is sat by students before being successfullyadmitted into various higher institutions of education at tertiary levelaround the world, they should reach and achieve a satisfactory pass inthe examination. It is an instrument to determine students’ ability tocarry out their programs of study in English. The TOEFL internetbased testing (iBT) measures the ability in using and understanding ofEnglish. It also assesses reading, listening, writing and speaking,focusing on integrating the four skills. The examination measuresstudents’ ability to use English language as a tool to communicateeffectively in academic settings. TOEFL iBT is also being taken bythose who want get automaticity for a promotion in their respectivejobs and application for visas. Therefore there is a necessity forlecturers to find out an innovative teaching model to use for theirconsumption. A model that should be effective and innovative in thelearning and teaching of English for foreign language learners thatcaters for local needs. This research is to find out the innovativeteaching and learning of English at English First (EF) which is situatedat Kayun, Surabaya. There are many other institutions that offerTOEFL iBT preparation. However, EF is chosen because of theteaching strategies are unique in a way that the practitioners are veryexperience and they themselves are native speakers of English. It ishoped that this study should be a fruitful effort in finding a goodmodel for teaching English to students who are motivated to learn andyet find it difficult to master the language in a non-Englishenvironment. This study also aims to give more description orinformation about the implementation of the innovative teaching ofTOEFL iBT examination for the lecturers in Adi Buana University intheir English language proficiency courses. Abstract

Media cetak seperti surat kabar, majalah, jurnal, buku merupakan salah satu contoh dari media tulis yang seringkali digunakan untuk berkomunikasi dan berbagi pengalaman maupun pendapat. Saat ini baik artikel maupun jurnal dalam Bahasa Inggris pada umumnya ditulis oleh penutur asli yang memang menggunakan Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, tetapi sekarang orang Indonesia pun berusaha untuk menulis jurnal dalam Bahasa Inggris sekalipun Bahasa Inggris digunakan sebagai bahasa asing dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Makalah ini membahas penelitian korpus yang ditinjau dari jumlah frasa kata benda, frasa kata depan, dan klausa yang ditemukan di jurnal yang ditulis dalam Bahasa Inggris oleh penutur asli dan orang Indonesia. Data penelitian berupa frasa kata benda, frasa kata depan, dan klausa yang terdapat dalam sumber data. Adapun sumber data yang digunakan adalah tiga artikel ilmiah dari tiga jurnal meliputi jurnal ekonomi, jurnal pendidikan dan jurnal psikologi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa orang Indonesia pun memiliki kemampuan yang sama dengan penutur asli dalam menulis jurnal dalam Bahasa Inggris ditinjau dari frasa kata benda, frasa kata depan dan klausa.
