Abstract

At present days stakeholders require the graduates who have the technical skills (Hardskill) as well possess the soft skills. The Hardskills are just not sufficient to deal with the qualification of employers in the real-world of workplace, but need to be equipped with soft skills in order to shape the integrated capabilities as needed by users. To form the student’s soft skills can be implemented through the coaching program in formal learning activities and extracurricular activities. The softskill development of students is necessary to be achieved with concrete efforts, namely: 1) the existence of policies that legalize the implementation of soft skill based on the extracurricular activities in each education unit; 2) systematic and planned soft skills development program; and 3) the softskill dissemination is carried out synergistically involving all parties.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) first year students in the Departement of Technology and Vocational Education (JPTK), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Palangka Raya University (UPR). Zimmerman (1989) explains that to be able to carry out self regulation in learning, students/learners must regulate themselves or use certain strategies to achieve their learning goals. Pascarella & Terenzini (2005) stated that the first year is very important to identify students who may be at risk in subsequent years, so that it is considered the most optimal time to take action. This research is a quantitative research. This research to describe self-regulated learning (SRL) first year students using Zimmerman (2002) indicators, namely (1) task analysis (2) self motivational beliefs (3) self-control (4) self observation (5) self judgement and (6) self reactions. The instrument used was a questionnaire of 28 items using a Likert scale with four answer choices. The research subjects were 57 first year students in the Departement of Technology and Vocational Education (JPTK) FKIP UPR. The results showed that 10,53% of the research subject had very low Self-Regulated Learning (SRL), 38,60% of the subject were in the low category, 36,84% subject were in the high category, and 14,03% subject were in the very high Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) category. The survey results showed that the majority of students were satisfied with the teaching performance of lecturers, academic administration services, and teaching facilities/infrastructure. However, there are still a small number of students who feel dissatisfied, especially with the teaching facilities/infrastructure. In terms of the teaching performance of lecturers, the majority of students feel satisfied and very satisfied with the willingness or concern of lecturers in helping them. While in the aspect of academic administration services, the majority of students feel satisfied and very satisfied with the willingness or concern of administrative staff in helping them. However, in the aspect of teaching facilities/infrastructure, there are still a small number of students who feel dissatisfied with the sufficiency, quality, and accessibility of the facilities and infrastructure available. From these survey results, it can be concluded that although the majority of students feel satisfied with the teaching performance of lecturers, academic administration services, and teaching facilities/infrastructure, there is still a need to improve the quality of teaching facilities/infrastructure to maximize student satisfaction.
