Abstract

This study entitled “Figurative Languages Found in Frozen Movie Selected Song”. In general, figurative language is a type of language that departs from the language used traditionally and literally. This study aims to spot and describe the inner meaning of figurative language found within the Frozen Movie Original soundtrack. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method to describe the types found and the meanings contained in the lyrics of the song Frozen. This article uses theory from Perrine (1969) to explain the types of figurative language, and theory from Leech (1981) which describes the meaning contained in song lyrics. From the research conducted, 11 data were used, and of the 11 types found, 4 types contained in the song lyrics can be identified, including Personification with 3 data, Apostrophe with 3 data, Overstatement with 3 data, and simile with 2 data. This article aims to provide lessons to the public in order to analyze the lyrics of the songs we listen to so that we understand what the songs mean.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to describe the derived process of derivational morpheme found in “The Power of a Positive Wife Book” This study focused on: The derived process of each derivational morpheme used in “The Power of a Positive Wife Book.”  Qualitative and supported by quantitative method was used in this research and the data source was “The Power of a Positive Wife” Book. The method used in collecting the data was descriptive qualitative method. The result of the analysis was presented by using formal and informal method. In affixes, have three types as follows: suffix, infix and prefix. There are nine types of derived process of derivational morpheme such as Noun derived from Adjective, Adjective derived from Noun, Noun derived from Noun, Verb derived from Verb, Noun derived from Verb, Adjective derived from Adjective, Verb derived from Noun, Adjective derived from Verb and Adverb derived from Adjective. The frequencies of each kind of derivational morpheme are different to each other. The most frequently occurring were derived adverb from adjective and the most rarely occurring was derived Adjective from Adjective. Derived verb from Adjective and derived adjective from verb were not found in this data source.  The total data of derivational morpheme found in The Power of a Positive Wife Book was 195 words.

Abstract

Figurative language is a language that conveys thoughts or feelings in different forms to obtain effects and to emphasize certain meanings. This study describes the analysis of figurative language in Harry Styles’ song lyrics. The purpose of this study was 1) to determine the type of figurative language in Harry Styles’ songs using the theory of Knickerbocker & Reninger (1963) and 2) to explain the meaning of the figurative language contained in it (Leech, 1981). The data sources were obtained from 10 Harry Styles songs that have the highest number of viewers on their YouTube channel. This research used the descriptive qualitative method to analyze data and the observation method in collecting research data. From the results of the analysis, there are ten types of figurative language in thirty-four sentences of the data. They are simile (1 sentence, 2.94%), metaphor (5 sentences, 14.70%), personification (5 sentences, 14.70%), synecdoche (1 sentence, 2.94%), metonymy (3 sentences, 8.82%, hyperbole (14 sentences, 41.18%), irony (2 sentences, 5.90%), paradox (1 sentence, 2.94%), dead metaphor (1 sentence, 2.94%), and allusion (1 sentence, 2.94%)
