Abstract

The success of learning can be evaluated of learning achievement that has been achieved. Learning achievement is influenced by several factors, one of which is adversity quotient. Someone who has adversity quotient in any circumstances be able to use all its potential to improve learning achievement results. The purpose of study was to determine the correlation of Adversity Quotient (AQ) and academic achievement in year 2012 Medical Student of Riau University. This research used analytic method of cross sectional study. The population was students Faculty of Medicine University of Riau in year 2012. Sample of this research was 115 students with total sampling method. Researcher used a questionnaire based on the theory of Stoltz’s adversity quotient and Grade Point Average (GPA) to measure learning achievement. The statistical test for correlation of adversity quotient and learning achievement using Pearson correlation test. The result of this study showed a significant correlation between adversity quotient and learning achievement (r=0,377; p=0,000). In conclusion there was a correlation between Adversity Quotient (AQ) and learning achievement in year 2012 Faculty of Medicine University of Riau.Keywords: adversity quotient, learning achievement, medical student

Abstract

Student in education life will face many obstacles where good self adapted and readiness is needed. Coping stress is a good principal for students to face their problems. Coping stress can be influenced by internal factors and external factors, one of internal factor is self efficacy. This research conducted to discover correlation between self efficacy and coping stress on medical students of Riau University on year 2012. This is an analytic correlation study with cross sectional approachment. Subjects were medical students of Riau University on year 2012, where 107 students were obtained as samples with total sampling method. Instruments used in this research were Bandura’s based theory self efficacy questionnaire and Lazarus and Folkman’s based theory coping stress questionnaire. The result showed that about 68 students (63,6 %) used to used problem focused coping, 39 students (36,4 %) applicated emotional focused coping and about 60 students (24 %) have high self efficacy, 47 students (43,9 %) with average self efficacy, and none student with low self efficacy could be found. Statistic test used to discover correlation between self efficacy and coping stress was Lambda statistic test. The result showed that there was positive, significant, and poor correlation between self efficacy and coping stress (r= 0,278; p= 0,000), which led to a conclusion that correlation between self efficacy and coping stress on medical students of Riau University on year 2012 could be found.Keywords: self efficacy, coping stressPENDAHULUANMahasiswa sebagai salah seorang pelajar dituntut untuk dapat mengembangkan diri dengan maksimal dalam berbagai masalah. Abstract

Self Directed Learning Readiness (SDLR) is important both for students and universities to accomplish certain learning objectives. There are internal and external factors influencing SDLR, such as gender and entry method of the students to the faculty.Genderdefined as male and female while entry methode defined SNMPTN, SNMPTN Undangan, PBUD and PBUD Bina Lingkungan. This research aimed to seek a relationship between gender and entry method to SDLR of Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau Year 2012 Students. This research built as analitical research with cross sectional basis and using total sampling method. using a questionaire developed by Zulharman ( 2006). This research found most of Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau Year 2012 Students (65 %) has a middle scored SDLR, on gender basis female students has better SDLR score (132,13) compared to males (130,52). while on entry method basis the PBUD entry method students has better SDLR score (138) compare to SNMPTN (132), SNMPTN Undangan (123), and PBUD Bina Lingkungan (133. The relationships analyzed by Kolmogorof-Smirnov statistical method, with the relationship of Gender to SDLR had a P-Value = 0.265 while the relationship of entry method to SDLR had a P-Value = 0.181. Those P-Values > α (0.05) meaning there are no relationship of gender and entry method to SDLR rating of Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau Year 2012 Students.Keywords: Self Directed Learning Readiness, SDLR, Gender, Entry Method

Abstract

AbstractAttitude of smoking among adolescents is still a problem that is serious enough ,the number of which increased from year to year, starting from a relatively young age so that Junior High School. Teens takes a special kind of social support from family (parents), the school environment and peers who can make them believe that they are able to resist bad influences and have a positive attitude, especially for adolescents health. Purpose of this research to gain an overview of social support on the attitudes of student toward smoking in junior high school Pekanbaru. This research is a descriptive study approach cross-sectional. This study was conducted in November 2014 as many as 210 students Junior High School in Pekanbaru which has been designated by the Department of Education the city of Pekanbaru. The results showed that a good social families as many as 206 respondents (98.10%), social support good school as much as 210 respondents (100%) and social support good peers as 204 respondents (97.14%).Keywords: social support, attitudes smoking, adolescents

Abstract

ABSTRACTInformation literacy is a key component of lifelong learning and is central to the mission of higher education. Skills required to be information literate require an understanding of: a need for information, the resources available, how to find information, the need to evaluate results, how to work with or exploit results, ethics and responsibility of use how to communicate or share your findings how to manage your findings. Problem-based learning is a learning approach that uses complex problems as a trigger in learning process of students. The aim of this study was to obtain the pattern of information literacy skills in the problem-based learning process in medical students of Riau University. This study uses design of qualitative research with collection of sample with snowball sampling method .Data collection was done by depth interview method. The result of this study shown that informans Informans have the ability of understanding the need of information, have the ability to acces information effectively but haven’t been efficient, and haven’t the ability to evaluate the source of information yet.Keywords: Information Literacy, Problem-Based Learning, Medical Students

Abstract

ABSTRACTBandura explains that self-efficacy is a person’s belief about ability to perform a task or action to achieve a particular result. Students with high self-efficacy will be able to deal with the OSCE successfully and smoothly. This study is a longitudinal study with retrospective approach to determine the correlation between self-efficacy and the mark of OSCE to the third year students of Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau. The sample 102 students of this study were taken by total sampling technique. Primary data was taken by self-efficacy questionnaire modified from Rizkia research based on the theory of Bandura and secondary data from mark of the OSCE taken from manager skill lab. Statistical test to determine the correlation between self-efficacy and the mark of OSCE used Spearman test. The results of this study showed that there is no significant correlation between self-efficacy and the mark of OSCE (r=0.137; p=0.170). The conclusion of this study there was no correlation between self-efficacy and mark of the OSCE in the students third year of medical university riau.Keywords: self-efficacy, mark of the OSCE, medical students

Abstract

The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is evaluated in Faculty of Medicine University of Riau as one of a learning achievement. The success of OSCE is influenced by internal and external factors, one of internal factors is emotional intelligence. High emotional intelligence can improve a learning achievement on a student. The purpose of study was to determine the relation of emotional intelligence and OSCE score in medical students of Riau University batch 2011. This research used analytic method of retrospective study. The population was students at Faculty of Medicine University of Riau batch 2011. Samples of this research were 115 students with total sampling method. This research used a questionnaire based on the theory of Goleman’s emotional intelligence. The relation of emotional intelligence and OSCE score was analyzed using Somers’d test. The result of the study didn’t show a relation between emotional intelligence and OSCE score (p=0,407). In conclusion there was no relation between emotional intelligence and OSCE score in medical students of Riau University batch 2011.Keywords: emotional intelligence, objective structured clinical examination

Abstract

ABSTRACTAdvance level of Adversity Quotient (AQ) is essential for medical students to gain struggling power in facing the challenges along the study to become a good and successful doctor. Many factors affect people Adversity Quotient (AQ) level, one of them is organization. The level of Adversity Quotient (AQ) depends on life experiences, without exception; organizational experience. The objective of this research was to find out the correlation of organizational experience and Adversity Quotient (AQ) level in medical students year 2012 of university of Riau. This research is an analytical research with cross sectional approach. The subject of the research are medical students year 2012 of university of Riau. Sample of the research consists of 115 medical student which is collected by total sampling technique. The researcher uses a questioner based on organization theories and researches, then adopted Stoltz's theories on Sari's research. The statistic assessment of correlation between organizational experience and Adversity Quotient (AQ) level; uses Spearman's Correlation test. Result of the research shows that there is a significant correlation between organizational experience and Adversity Quotient (AQ) level (r=0,345; p=0,000). Abstract

ABSTRACTEach individual must have experienced stress including clerkship. Therefore, the individual must have the ability to manage stress. The stress level on each individual is influenced by many factors, one of the factors is adversity quotient. The high adversity quotient is able to help somebody to manage and deal with the stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between adversity quotient and academic stress level in clerkship of Riau University. Cross-sectional analytic correlative study designed to 145 medical students who selected by minimal sample which will be divided every station with proportional random sample. Collecting data used adversity quotient questionnaire based on the theory of Paul G Stoltz and Medical Student Stressor Questionnaire (MSSQ) using an online questionnaire (google docs). Data was analyzed bivariate by Spearman correlation. The result of this study was moderate negative correlation between adversity quotient and academic stress level in clerkship of Riau University with r = -0,558, r square = 0,311 and p value = 0,000.Keywords: academic stress level, adversity quotient, clerkship

A person who has high self-esteem can easily identify yourself and can easily find out what he needed to improve learning achievement. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation of self-esteem and academic achievement in 2011 Students of Medicine, University of Riau. This study used a cross sectional analytic method. The population is a student at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau in 2011 The sample was 115 students with a total sampling method. Researchers used a questionnaire based on the theory of Frey and Carlock about self-esteem and grade point average (GPA) to measure learning achievement. The statistical test for correlation adversity quotient and learning achievement using the Spearman correlation test. The results of this study have a correlation between self-esteem and achievement of learning with the strength and direction of a weak correlation (r = 0.2, p = 0.04). In conclusion there is a relationship between self-esteem and learning achievement in 2011 the Faculty of Medicine, University of Riau.Keywords: self-esteem, academic achievement, medical students
