Abstract

The house that expresses Traditional Balinese Building, is still interested and kept up by Balinese community, and this is also supported by local policy regarding to the utilize of Balinese Traditional Building. However, the ability of community to realize it is enormously limited related to the economic aptitude. It seems that it is crucial to create a building material that offer a strongly traditional impressed without ought to spend the high cost and simply processing. In Bali, the efforts to produce it, has already exist for instance the use of wall covered by using soil refined. That method that is employed by community, will be valuable if we combine with the new technology for example the brick traditionally technology combined with Habiteck Park will result the Balinese traditionally building material with low cost and simply processing. The result of this paper require to be pursued by intensely research to obtain a linked brick that be intended both intern of composition material and the various and precisely forms, thus this could be useful and present a high economic value in keeping up the effort to facilitate the house that that be able to fulfilled for Balinese community need without leave the Balinese Traditional Architecture Style.

Abstract

As a tourist destination, Bali relies on its culture, which includes socio-cultural activities and the architectural form of the traditional Balinese house inspired by the Hindu Balinese religion, as the main core to attract tourists. The increasing number of tourist arrivals has motivated people to transform their traditional houses become tourist facilities to improve their economic condition. The traditional house-compound becomes a home-based enterprise with the construction of new buildings in their house. This construction has changed the setting, spaces and forms of the house, which are components of an architectural identity. This phenomenon encourages questions about the new relationship between a home-based enterprise and an architectural identity. Is there a conflict between a home-based enterprise as a strategy to gain an economic benefit and an architectural identity as an expression of Balinese culture? Is there an interdependent relationship between them? By examining the setting, forms and transformation process of the traditional Balinese house, this study discusses the continuity of an architectural identity alongside home-based enterprises in the physical transformation of tourist villages. In tourist villages, the architecture identity and home-based enterprise have an interdependent relationship where the architectural identity is an asset to attract tourists and, by running tourist facilities as home-based enterprises, the Balinese people maintain the architectural identity of their houses.

Abstract

Tourism is one of the biggest income generators especially for developing countries. Regarding tourism facilities, most people at tourism areas extend their houses as a home stay, a restaurant, an art shop, salons, and other facilities. Without properly manage, that will have severe impacts upon local communities and environment. The housing extensions phenomena as tourism facilities and sustainable issue in tourism areas occur at some rural areas in the world including Indonesia and Bali, especially Ubud Village. These house extensions are often designed with adoption of tourism standard, for example, the people tend to adopt the new technology such as using air conditional to anticipate the increase of local temperature (as the effect of climate change). In order to overcome the ecological problem and energy, they use modern building material such as aluminum, plastic, asbestos, etc. That building are often designed by less taking local characteristic of tropical environment. Consequently, the cost was excessively high and the impact on the environment was negative. The objective of this study is to know how application of Balinese architecture in tourism facilities at Ubud Village. In order to achieve this objective, this research uses stratified random sample survey strategy, and case studies. The result of research shows that generally the tourism facilities at Ubud Village has been far away use Balinese architecture principle like ventilation, material, ornament landscape etc. On the other hand, many facilities use air conditioning and other equipments to find comfortable in the room. That is wasteful of energy and unfriendly to environment. The solutions suggested in this research are the use of sun shading to control of sunlight both vertical and horizontal shading to decrease use of air conditional; the arrangement of the buildings, the attention on environment , the use of material etc. Keywords: extension housing, energy, sustainable

Abstract

This research examined thermal comfort in  church buildings in Indonesia by making a comparison between three different Indonesian climatic regions using three different research models. A static model, an adaptation study model and a CFD simulation were used to find the similarities and differences between the results generated from determining thermal comfort in church buildings in the three regions. The comparison revealed that church buildings had different PMV scores at each measuring point that were inversely proportional to the subjects’ response on thermal comfort inside the buildings, i.e. points adjoining with openings affect a low PMV score and a high perceived thermal sensation, and vice versa. The CFD simulation showed that changing the conditions of the openings affects air velocity and flow into the building, which influences the subjects’ thermal comfort response inside the churches.

Abstract

Study of residential space of the Catholic Bali Community at the Canggu Village. Balinese culture is a complex phenomenon based on various beliefs such as Hinduism, Shiva, Buddhism and combined with ancestral traditions therefore that Bali has a special uniqueness of the ceremonial activities performed and the architecture of the building. Over time, the many interactions that enter Bali cause interactions between communities, resulting in friction between cultures which allows acculturation to occur. One of the cultural meetings that took place in Bali was the existence of a Balinese Catholic community in Canggu Village, North Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali. Cultural meetings that take place in this village involve Balinese Hindu culture and Catholic traditions. The purpose of this study is to study the picture of cultural encounters that occur in the pattern of Catholic Balinese residences in Canggu Village. The results obtained are that the laying of each building does not consist of one building such as a traditional Balinese house, but does not adapt to the space of the mandala, at a level that adapts the concept of the tri mandala all facing towards the main road.

Abstract

An increase in population can lead to an increase in the number of space requirements while an increase in the number of space requirements can trigger the growth and development of an area. The growth is also experienced by Dalung Village with the potential that characterizes the embryo of an urban area, one of which has very high accessibility. Thus, future developments in Dalung Village will experience settlement compaction which will trigger the growth of slum areas and traffic congestion in the future. For this reason, this study aims to analyze the growth pattern of residential areas in Dulung Village. The research method used is descriptive qualitative to describe the spatial pattern of the growth of residential areas in Dulung Village. The analysis used is morphological analysis, which is used to identify the physical space in Dalung Village. The types of data that will be used in this study are the types of primary data and secondary data. The results of the analysis of this study indicate that the growth pattern of residential areas in Dalung Village is seen from the spatial shape of the city's morphology which tends to be in the form of an octopus because it is influenced by the development of existing transportation routes, while the development of the morphology of the settlement area in Dalung Village tends to be more elongated / ribbon because the development of settlements in Dalung Village occurs because of the transportation route.

Abstract

Kata kunci: Kebudayaan, rumah tradisional Bali, transformasi AbstractBali relies on its culture to maintain its position as a tourist destination. This includes traditional practices as well as architecture. But the traditional Balinese house is frequently transformed in order to accommodate tourism activities. Such practices have modified the context, internal spaces and form of dwellings as a whole. Thus traditional domestic practices based on the philosophy of Tri Hita Kharana are also affected. This phenomenon raises the vexed issue as to how both can coexist within the same spatial envelope, which is the subject of this paper. The method of investigation includes an examination of buildings and spaces as well as interviews with occupants as to how they accommodate such change. Abstract

Tourism and community participation have transformed the physical setting of the traditional Balinese villages in various directions. Tourism village is an important type of spatial planning policies in Bali that focus on cultural tourism. In cultural tourism, the traditional villages including cultural and traditional practices of the people are the main resources of tourist activities. Therefore, the traditional village pattern and land use are signif icant in tourism development. Through integrating participatory rural appraisal (PRA) methods with land use and architectural-historical investigation, this paper explores and investigates the spatial pattern of land use transformation in tourism villages. The results indicate that tourism villages in Gianyar have experienced an expansion in both the horizontal and vertical dimensions, with increasing land intensity. This expansion was accompanied by the touristif ication process, with land use changing from addressing villagers’ needs to satisfying tourists’ demands. However, this paper states that the transformation is read as a pragmatic response to address new challenges in the community by interpreting the reconf iguration of the villages and houses.
