Abstract

Anthocyanins were extracted from jambolan skins using neutral solvents e.i water, ethanol, sopropanol, water ; ethanol (1:1), water : isopropanol (1:1), ethanol : isopropanol (1:1), and water, ethanol, isoppropanol (1:1:1) at 5 and 270>C. the stability of the anthocyanins was as effected by pH, heat, oxidator, and light was investigated. The extraction using combination of water and isopropanol at 270C showed the highest total yield, i.e 71.54% (db). Furthermore, the highest anthocyanin concentration and yield were obtained in the extracts using combination of water and ethanol at 270>C i.e. 10 007.03 mg/L (db) and 2.78% (db), respectively. At low pH, the pigment extracts sowed high stability; and gradually decreased and lost color when the pH was increased. The greatest color intensity (red) was obtained at pHs values less than 3.5. The anthocyanins were relatively stable during heating temperature of 40 and 600C in which more than 80% of pigment could be maintained for 4 hour of heating. Heating at high temperatures (80 and 1000C) decreased the color stability more than 80%. Presence of oxidator H2O2 reduced the stability up to 73.52%. The UV and flouresecent light exposure for 7 days also reduced the stability by 11.47% and 10.62%, respectively. Key words: Anthocyanins, Jambolan skin, Extraction, pigment stability

Abstract

The use of pesticide on agricultural land is common for eradicate plant-disturbing organisms to increase agricultural productivity. High use of pesticide can have adverse health effects. Active ingredients contained in the pesticides causing impaired of cholinesterase enzymes which can cause hypertension. Gerlang village is on of the most frequently village used of pesticides. This research have purpose to analyze the relationship beetwen of pesticide exposure with hypertension in horticultural farmers in Gerlang village. This research uses observational method with cross-sectional approach. Population of this research is all farmers in Gerlang village and take 70 respondents as a sample. Data were analyzed using chi-square test. The result of statistical test shows that there is a correlation beetwen level of using pesticide (p=0,032) and pesticide type (p=0,021) with hypertension. There is no correlation between length od using pesticide (p value is cannot be shows because of constant answer) and management of pesticide use (p=0,018) with hypertension. From this research to anticipated the impact of using pesticide that require routinely spraying through the use of personal protective equipment during work.

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Systemic contact dermatitis (SCD) is a systemic reactivation of a previous allergic contact dermatitis. The initial exposure may usually be topical, followed by oral, intravenous or inhalation exposure leading to a systemic hypersensitivity reaction. A case of a 27 year-old male with SCD due to nickel is reported Case Report: A 27 year-old male presented with recurrent pruritic eruption consist of deep seated vesicles on both palmar and left plantar since 6 months before admission. This complaint began after patient consumed excessive amounts of chocolate, canned food, and beans. The patient worked as a technician in a food factory. History of allergy due to nickel was acknowledged since childhood. The clinical presentation was diffuse deep seated vesicles, and multiple erythematous macules to plaques, with collarette scale. Patch test using the European standard showed a +3 result to nickel. The patient was diagnosed as systemic contact dermatitis due to nickel. The treatments were topical corticosteroid and patient education of avoidance of both contact and systemic exposure to nickel. The patient showed clinical improvement after 2 weeks. Discussion: SCD was diagnosed due to the history of massive consumption of food containing nickel in a patient who had initial sensitization to nickel, with clinical features and the patch test result. Advice to be aware of nickel and its avoidance is important in SCD management.
