Abstract

Follicle-stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR) is exclusively expressed in granulose cells of the ovary and Sertoli cells of the testis. The highly cell-specific of gene expression revealed that transcriptional events unique to these two cell types are responsible for activation of the FSHR gene. Even though its mechanisms are still unclear, several progress regarding the mechanism that control its basal transcription and regulation has been made. It has been identified several important elements that responsible for the transcription of the TATA-less FSHR gene such as: E box element (CACG(A)TG, –124/–119), an inverted GATA (TATC, –88/–85), E2F (TTTCGCG, –45/–39), and regulator element-3 (–197/–171). The functional studies shown that mutations through these regulatory elements significantly decrease the promoter function with greatest impact detected when mutation was done in E-box element. The site-specific CpG methylation within the core promoter seems play an important role in the regulation of rat and mouse FSHR gene expression. Abstract

Women of reproductive ages are varies in their responses to exogenous FSH stimulations. The difference of FSHR genotype due to the polymorphisms in exon 10 is one of its significant factors. To know further whether the core promoter of FSHR is also polymorphic and to know whether those polymorphisms influence the promoter activity, we did polymorphism screening of FSHR promoter to 262 women undergoing IVF/ICSI, followed by functional study to know the impact of polymorphisms to the promoter activity. This study indicated that the core promoter of human FSHR is polymorphic. We found five SNPs at positions –29, –37, –114, –123 and –138 in addition to the variety number of adenines. Polymorphism at position –123 significantly decreased the promoter activity, in contrast, polymorphism at position –37 and –138 significantly increased the promoter activity, whereas polymorphism at position –29, –114 and short adenines stretch did not significantly influence the promoter activity. The differences of the promoter activities due to polymorphisms might change the ovarian sensitivity to FSH. Abstract

This research is aimed at investigating the influence of cow?s rumen fluid volume toward varied feces in producing biogas. This research has been done since October to December 2013 at Biotechnology laboratory, Faculty and Mathematic Science. The method of this research was completely randomized design (CRD) with factorial in three times. The first factor as the treatment was the type of feces, such as cow, horse, goat, and buffalo?s feces. The second factor was the treatment by adding the volume of cow?s rumen liquid as many as 160 and 320 ml. The control was the treatment without adding the volume of cow?s rumen liquid. The variables that were measured in this research were the volume of biogas and the duration of biogas flame that could be produced. The result of this research shows that the type of feces affected the biogas production. In these treatments, the highest volume of biogas that was produced to the lowest were horse?s feces yield of 226.56 cm3, cow?s feces yield of 71.40 cm3, buffalo?s feces yield of 28.28 cm3, and goat?s feces yield of 2.13 cm3. The addition of rumen liquid can increase the biogas production on cow, goat, and buffalo?s feces, but it did not significantly give the effect on horse?s feces. The positive interaction between addition of rumen liquid and feces shows on cow, goat, and buffalo?s feces. The rumen liquid, however, was not interacted with horse?s feces for producing biogas.Key words: biogas, rumen fluid, methanogen

Abstract

The research objective is to locate and determine the morphological and biochemical characteristics of the bacteria that could potentially degrade the used lubricant oil in the workshops in Padang. The research was conducted March to October 2016. The bacteria obtained from the workshop is cultured on selective media MSM and transferred to LB medium to obtain pure isolates. Morphological and biochemical characterization indicate three types of bacteria that live in workshop?s soil contaminated used lubricant oil, namely Bacillus sp1, sp2 and Alcaligenes Bacillus sp

Abstract

Abstrak Berdasarkan analisis LKS, ditemukan bahwa tujuan pembelajaran tidak relevan dengan Kompetensi Dasar. LKS yang yang dipakai khususnya pada materi pewarisan sifat juga kurang menarik dan tidak ada tantangan bagi siswa untuk menemukan sendiri, berpikir sendiri, dan bertanya lebih lanjut tentang materi tersebut. Selain itu sajian materi pada LKS belum memberikan contoh-contoh yang nyata bagi siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan LKS biologi berorientasi pendekatan kontekstual pada materi pewarisan sifat untuk kelas IX SMP yang valid, praktis, dan efektif. Jenis peneitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan. Perangkat pembelajaran ini dikembangkan dengan menggunakan four-D models tanpa tahapan disseminate. Data didapatkan dari hasil validasi dan uji coba perangkat yang dikembangkan. LKS yang telah didesain, divalidasi oleh empat orang pakar dan tiga orang praktisi kemudian di uji coba secara terbatas di kelas IX SMPN 2 Pasaman untuk mengetahui praktikalitas dan efektivitas perangkat yang dikembangkan. Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa LKS yang dikembangkan pada pembelajaran IPA biologi berorientasi pendekatan kontekstual pada materi pewarisan sifat untuk kelas IX dinyatakan sangat valid, praktis, dan cukup efektif. Kata Kunci: LKS, Pendekatan Kontekstual, Pewarisan Sifat. Abstract Based on analysis of the student worksheets, its found that the purpose of learning topic is not relevant with base competency yet. The student worksheet that are used, especially in the topic of inheritance are also no interesting and a challenge for students to find, to think, and ask by himself about the topics. Beside it, the examples of learning topic and the student worksheet is not give the real ones for student yet. This study aimed to result the student worksheets, form in contextual approach to biology-oriented on the topic of inheritance for the student at grade IX of junior high school are valid, practical, and effective. This is the development research. The research used a four-D models without disseminate phase. The data came from validation and testing device developed. The student worksheet that has been designed, validated by four experts and three practitioners, and then testing in limited in grade IX of SMPN 2 Pasaman to know the practicalities and effectiveness of instrument developed. The result show that the student worksheets has been developed for biology science oriented contextual approach on the subject of inheritance for IX grade are very valid, practical, and effectiveness. Abstract

Biology is a subject directly related to everyday life and requires an understanding of the concept. Therefore, the learning process requires a biological approaches, strategies, methods, and media-related learning with the real world so that students can understand the concepts and learning becomes more meaningful. One of the learning strategies that can help the understanding of the concept as well as activities to direct and stimulate students' thinking is through the use of learning modules accompanied concept map. The aims of this research is to develop a module oriented science technology society on the topic of biotechnology. This Biology Module developed using 4-D models. The results shows that, the modules are very valid with a value of 81.09%. The value of practicalities by teachers are 82.7%, and the value of practicalities by students are 85.5%. The effectiveness of the module can be seen from the motivation of students, activities, and student learning outcomes. It is concluded that the biology module oriented science technology society (STS) accompanied concept map on the topic of biotechnology for junior high school was valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

The problems encountered in this study were lack of student motivation, students have difficulty understanding the subject matter, initial cavability students are not considered, and learning competence was still low. One of the effort made to evercome this problem is by applying discovery learning model assisted with student worksheet.The purpose of this research was to reveal the effect of using discovery learning model assisted with student worksheet on the students learning competence in biology. This was a quasi experimental research, the sample of the research was the students in class VIII2 as the experimental class and VIII5 class as the control class. The experimental class was treated by discovery learning model assisted with student worksheet and the control one was taught by using conventional learning. The data was collected through a test to measure the students cognitive competence and an observation sheet to see their affective and psychomotor competences. The data obtained was analyzed by using t-test, two ways anava test and Mann Whitney U test. Based on the result of data analysis it was figured out that the learning competence on cognitive, affective and psychomotor aspects of the students taught by using discovery learning model assisted with student worksheet was better than that taught by using conventional model; learning competence on cognitive aspect of the students having high previous knowledge taught by using discovery learning model assisted with student worksheet was better than that taught by using conventional model; and there were no interaction between learning model and previous knowledge in affecting the students learning competence on cognitive aspect.

Abstract

This research was aimed at explaining the difference between learning achievement of the students taught by using TPS cooperative model assisted with Mind Map worksheet and those taught by using conventional method viewed from previous knowledge in class X of MAN 3 Kerinci. This was a quasi experimental. The population of the research was the students in class X of MAN 3 Kerinci registered in Academic Year 2012/2013. They were distributed into three classes XA, XB and XC. This research applied factorial block 2x2 design. Based on the result of the research, it was found that the Biology learning achievement of the students taught by using TPS cooperative model assisted with Mind Map Worksheet was better than that of students taught by using conventional method. It could be seen from the students’ average score in the experimental class which was 74,28, and in the control class which was 61,97. Learning achievement of the students having high previous knowledge taught by using TPS cooperative model assisted with Mind Map Worksheet was better than that of students taught by using conventional method  in which the average score of the students in the experimental class was 80,41 and in the control class was 67,81. Learning achievement of the students having low previous knowledge taught by using TPS cooperative model assisted with Mind Map Worksheet was better than that of students taught by using conventional method in which the average score of the students in the experimental class was 67,14 and in the control class was 54,02. There is no interaction between TPS type of cooperative learning that includes Mind Map type of LKS to the Biology student’s learning outcomes.

Abstract

The expected competency in Biology lesson requires students to be more  in learning. To achieve these goal, this need good effort from teacher and students. The strategy and learning model that have been used before was not able to improve the students’ activity and learning outcomes. There fore it is on effort to increase the activity and learning outcome of student. This is used to inprove the cases are by application of STAD cooperative learning model with the bowling kampus games. This is a Classroom Action Research(CAR) conducted in threecycles. Eachcycleconsistsoffoursteps: planning, action, observation, andreflection. Research subjectswere25studentsinthe classXI Sciene.2 Grade  of Senior High School Number 1 Tambusai Regency. To gether the data, the researcher used observation sheet to observe students’ activity and Biology test to measure students’ achievement. The percentase technique was used to analyze students’ activities of each indicator. Students’ achievement showed by the number of students’ who passed the minimum standard score achievement criteria and the students’ mean score of the last cycle.Result of data analysis in the first cycle, second cycle and three showed that there is improvement of students’ learning activity of all learning activity indicators. Students activity increase was86,69%. It gave positive contribution on the result of the students’ learning. Number ofstudents who pass theappropriate of KKM increase was88.00%. It can be concludedthat the implementation of STAD by using bowling kampus playingcooperative learning model canincrease the activityandlearning outcomesBiology students in classXI Sciene.2 Grade  of Senior High School Number 1 Tambusai.

Abstract

The biology learning process in class XI of IPA 1 of MAN 2 Kabupaten Tebo, was still teacher-centered. The learning methods which were used less varied. It made the students got low activities and competence in learning. There were still many students who were reluctant to ask questions and express their ideas as they were ashamed and did not understand the learning materials explained by the teachers. This research was designed for improving the students’ activities and Biology learning competence through STAD cooperative learning model accompanied with the Student Worksheet on Problem Solving. This was a classroom action research which was conducted collaboratively between the researcher and the teacher teaching in the class. This was conducted in two cycles in which each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. The subject of the research was the teacher and the students in class XI IPA 1 of MAN 2 Kabupaten Tebo. The instruments of the research were observation sheet on the students’ activities and learning competence, and a test. The data was collected through observation and a learning achievement test. The data obtained then was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The result of data analysis cycle 1 dan cycle 2 shows the increase in student learning activity and competence. Learning activities of students increased from 49,26% to 70,97%. Cognitive learning outcomes of students in cycle 1 and cycle 2 also increased. The number of students who completed increased from 75% to 87,5%. Affective learning outcomes of student from 58,28% to75,89% and psychomotor learning outcomes of student from 63,08% to 73,75%. The teacher’s activities improved from 74,95% to 93,31%. In general, it was concluded that the use of STAD cooperative learning model accompanied with the Student Worksheet on Problem Solving could improve the students’ activities as well as their Biology learning competence in class XI IPA 1 of Man 2 Kabupaten Tebo.
