Abstract

This paper aims to examine the development of Arabic vocabulary through isytiqāq kabīr, akbar, and kubbār. Isytiqāq or derivation has appeared among Arabic linguists from the beginning of the third century hijriah until the middle of the end of the fourth century hijriah. The qualitative research method (al-bahts al-kayfi) with the type of library research is used in this paper to examine library materials related to the writing theme. The study results show that the type of isytiqāq kabīr is the same as taqlīb (change), the type of isytiqāq akbar is the same as ibdal, and the type of isytiqāq kubbār is the same as naht (acronym). The three isytiqāq have differences, namely; isytiqāq kabīr / akbar is to form various syllables from a syllable consisting of three phonemes, but still has elements of the same meaning. The similarity in meaning is because the word formed comes from a root word with the same phoneme. While isytiqāq kubbār is to form a new word by abbreviating two or more words, which results in an abbreviated word meaning.

Based on the teacher perspectives, the results of the study reveal that the use of mobile devices facilitates students in understanding Arabic lessons and increase their motivation for learning. Time limitations and large classroom sizes were obstacles that decrease teachers’ interest to integrate mobile devices into classroom activities. Reading is by far the main language skill taught by teachers and there is a less focus on productive skills such as speaking and writing. The students have less attention and motivation for learning Arabic while the teachers have attempted to deal with this problem by several measures. The characteristic of Arabic language differs from each context. However, whether for inside or outside classroom activities, active methods are of particular importance for Arabic learning. Arabic teaching and learning practices facilitated by mobile devices require careful planning for a successful implementation lead to more active and effective learning of Arabic.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic to date has caused learning to be carried out remotely to prevent further transmission of the virus. The use of Google Classroom is a solution for learning fiqh lughah online at this critical time. So far, there are still few studies that examine student perceptions of online learning of fiqh lughah. Therefore, this study aims to investigate student perceptions of online learning of fiqh lughah using Google Classroom. This research is exploratory, investigative research with 33 students as the subject. All exploratory data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques by adopting several steps: tabulating the Microsoft Excel application data, adding a percentage score to the data, and presenting the analyzed data in a summary table. These findings reveal that distance learning using Google Classroom gets a positive response from students even though they have to adapt more intensely to be comfortable with the learning process. Therefore, learning fiqh lughah through Google Classroom should be considered as an alternative media for online learning.
