Abstract

This article examines a method of tafsīr taḥlīlī or quranic analytical method as one of the four prominent interpretation procedures to explain the content of Quran.  The existence of quranic interpretation is an intrinsically-extrinsically necessity for the primer resources of Islamic teaching.  The method of tafsīr taḥlīlī is an interpretation procedure to explain the content of Quran from many different aspects based on quranic sequences of verses.  The method of tafsīr taḥlīlī gives the freedom and the wide space of interpretation for Mufassir to make quranic explanation from the first verse untill the last one.  It is provided systematically and comprehensively based on the Mufassir’s competences and efforts. Nevertheless, every method has its own advantages or superiorities in some aspects on the one hand, as well as has its own weakness on the other hand.  The superiorities and weakness of the quranic interpretation methods do not mean a negative account, but those role as early warning systems for Mufassir to be more careful whenever interprate any verses of Quran.  There for, they can avoid some mistakes in producing the quranic interpretation.

Abstract

Kitab Berladang is a manuscript from Putussibau, located in the interior of West Kalimantan. The text describes the ritual practices of the Muslim–Dayak community in rice cultivation activities. The dynamic mixing of elements from traditional culture of the Kapuas Hulu people and the teachings of Islam has resulted in a hybrid form of local Islam. Kitab Berladang, which provides a portrait of the diversity of the Muslim–Dayak community in West Kalimantan, outlines a hybrid character of Islam that can be seen in three domains. Firstly, in how the structure of the ritual of swidden cultivation retains the traditional procedures and also utilizes verses from the Holy Qur’an and Hadith. Secondly, in the incorporation of vocabulary and terminology from the local language with Arabic. Thirdly, in the reinterpretation of the symbols that were originally derived from legends and myths about rice in the community’s system of traditional beliefs, along with Islamic concepts derived from the tradition of theological and mystical thought.DOI: 10.15408/sdi.v20i1.349

Abstract

The construction of religious moderation is not only derived from the context of practices but also the texts of its theological doctrines. Manuscripts of Kitab Sifat Dua Puluh from West Kalimantan is a primary source to study the basis of Islamic religious moderation in Interior Borneo. The texts of the manuscript are no longer presented as a copy of al-Sanūsī’s Umm al-Barāhīn but it has become a corpus that accommodates local genius and tradition. This article aims to examine the moderation of Islamic theological doctrine derived from the texts of the manuscript of twenty attributes of God. The texts of a manuscript considered as one of the sustainable best practices of South-East Asian localisations of Islam because it was one of the basic references for the local Dayak Muslim community learning Islam in interior Boneo. This article is based on the results of philological studies on the manuscript collection written by Abang Ahmad Tahir (1860-1945) in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan, Indonesia.  The moderate Islamic theological doctrine in Abang Ahmad Tahir’s manuscript collection can be seen through three indicators namely the simplicity of the narrative articulation and arguments of the attributes of God, the synthesis of Islamic theological doctrine with Sufi doctrine, and the content of the text that gives no room for hate speech against local tradition and different systems of belief of the indigenous offspring of West Kalimantan.
