Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out the profile and the student’s understanding about science process skill of Elementary School Teacher Study Program (Prodi PGSD), Teacher Training and Education Faculty, Distance Learning Business Unit Open University (UPBJJ-UT Surakarta). The study used a survey method by spreading questionnaire to 65 students who join Science Lab Courses in April 2015. The Result of the study shows that the students’ profiles of PGSD program dominated by female and non-science graduates who work as non-civil servant teachers with 1-10 year job experience. Most of them have practical learningexperience but they have low understanding to the lab tools and materials. Students assume that the lab kits and modules that are used on the lesson are difficult to be understood. They also know the model of learning and assessed aspects in the study. The result of science process skill measurement shows on medium category. Based on the result mentioned above, it is necessary to conduct further research by using models and instructional media which are able to optimize the students’ science process skills.

Abstract

An indicator of the learning effectiveness could be seen from the student’s mastery of concepts and whether the concept was long embedded in his memory or the so-called retention. Good retention is one of the factors that will conduct the learning process goes smoothly. The reality shows that the academic ability of each individual is different, and the student’s mastery of concept and retention are still low, so the selection of strategy is an important factor and learning strategy of PDEODE(Predict-Discuss-Explain-Observe-Discuss-Explain) becomes the choice. The aim of this research is to explain the effect of learning strategy of PDEODE on the mastery of concept and retention in nutrition and health course on students with different academic ability in biology education of PGRI Ronggolawe University, Tuban. This study was a quasi-experimental research and the research design was pretest-posttest control group random subjects. The results of Manova indicated that 1) there was a difference in the mastery of concepts on nutrition and health subject among the students who were taught by PDEODE and conventionally, 2) there was a difference in retention on nutrition and health subject among students who were taught by PDEODE and conventionally, 3) there was a difference of mastery of concepts on nutrition and health subject among the students with the high academic ability and low academic ability, 4) there was a difference of retention on nutrition and health subject among the students with the high academic ability and low academic ability, 5) there was interaction between learning strategy and academic ability on the student’s mastery of concept on nutrition and health subject, 6) there was interaction between learning strategy and academic ability on the retention of the students on nutrition and health subject.

Abstract

Abstract

Various applications and utilization of biotechnology are very important to be introduced early. Introducing biotechnology through levels of education can be done by transferring science to students. Transferring knowledge through lectures activities are often experience constraints, one of them is that there is no adequate source of learning materials available. The research aimed todevelop a teaching materials of biotechnology course which is suited to the students’ necessary. The method used was 4Ddevelopment model which was adopted from Thiagarajan, et al (1974). The model contains four stages, i.e. define, design, develop, and deploy. Data collection techniques was using validation questionnaires for experts, individual test and small-scale trials. Data analysis results show that the average results of validation and testing were categorized as “eligible” with “good”predicate , based on the Eligibility Level Criteria and Product Revise table. Theproduct has an advantages and disadvantages which still needed to be revised.

Abstract

The 21st century requires the availability of human resources with seven skills or competence (Maftuh, 2016), namely: 1) critical thinking and problem solving skills, 2) creative and innovative, 3) behave ethically, 4) flexible and quick to adapt, 5) competence in ICT and literacy, 6) interpersonal and collaborative capabilities, 7) social skills and cross-cultural interaction. One of the competence of human resources of the 21st century are behaving ethically should be established and developed through learning that includes the study of ethics because ethical behavior can not be created and owned as it is by human, but must proceed through solving problem, especially ethical dilemma solving on the ethical problems atau problematics of ethics. The fundamental problem, in order to ethical behavior competence can be achieved through learning, is the right model of learning is not found yet by teachers to implement the learning associated with ethical values as expected in character education (Hudha, et al, 2014a, 2014b, 2014c). Therefore, it needs a decent learning model (valid), practical and effective so that ethics learning, to establish a human resources behave ethically, can be met. Thus, it is necessary to study (to analyze) and modificate the steps of learning (syntax) existing learning model, in order to obtain the results of the development model of learning syntax. One model of learning that is feasible, practical, and effective question is the learning model on the analysis and modification of syntax model of social learning, syntax learning model systems behavior (Joyce and Weil, 1980, Joyce, et al, 2009) as well as syntax learning model Tri Prakoro (Akbar, 2013). The modified syntax generate learning model OIDDE which is an acronym of orientation, identify, discussion, decision, and engage in behavior. Keywords: Ethics, OIDDE Learning Model, Model Behavior Learning System-consistent, Social Learning Model, Model Learning Triprakoro, Syntax
