Difficulties in English Speaking Faced by The Students of SMP Negeri 2 Kedu Temangggung in Academic Year 2008/ 2009 Sri Suwarti, T; Andris Susanto, Dias

Abstract

Abstract: The aims of this study are to know the description of difficulties speaking in the classroom. The problem faced by students in the eighth grade, and how does the teacher solve the problems.The research method used in this study was descriptive qualitative study. Data were collected through interview and observation. The subject of this study was the eighth year students of SMP Negeri 2 Kedu Temanggung in Academic year 2008 / 2009. It is found that the teaching of English speaking applied in two main activities: It is found that there are several problems faced by students.The students’ problems are; Students felt Difficult in speaking because they got lack of vocabularies. The students didn’t have spirit to practice their speaking ability. The lack of time in practicing the method instruction. The students got misunderstanding with speaking delivered by teacher. The students did not dare to use many kinds of vocabularies that have already given. Then there are some solutions; Training or asking them to try speaking English in their daily learning process. As a teacher in the class teacher should give more attention to the students such as; giving motivation, giving compliment, giving tips, advice, etc. In giving explanation, teacher should master in material fully, especially in speaking skill, and teacher should make the class sounds becoming English speaking area. Teacher should e able to manage the time allotment well in teaching speaking session. Speaking English lesson needs more practices orally rather than written one. To increase the dareness students’ speaking ability, they must be forced to speak little by little, words by words, then sentence by sentence. Finally, writers can conclude that; Teaching them using English not the whole in teaching and learning process, but teacher may use 50% in English and 50% in Bahasa. Teacher must be able to manage the time appropriately. S/he does not focus on the consuming materials but on the result of teaching process. To increase the students’ speaking ability, the student should try to speak in English more over with their friends surrounding. And they can apply what they have just got the materials from their teacher. Abstract

The purpose of this study are to describe and explain: 1) to determine how the use of the types of speech acts in the language of the ads found in the newspaper The Jakarta Post Online, 2) to determine how the process or how the formation of the language of advertising in letter The Jakarta Post online news as linguistic teaching materials. Research Design in this research was descriptive qualitative, which means providing indepth explanation of the phenomenon or object in a systematic way, based on the facts and accuracy (Moleong,2006:5). The authors applied this research method inorder to determine how to use the types of speech acts (speech act) in the language of the ads found in the newspaper The Jakarta Post Online, and how the formation of the language of advertising in the newspaper The Jakarta PostOnline. The Jakarta Post Online as the subject of this study .Object of this research was thatthere were ads on the newspaper The Jakarta Post Online".The following discussion of the study as a pre-supposition that the authors used the adsthey generally use two clauses (contained in 10 ads), and only one ads which used three clauses,namely ad restaurant Seafood House. Locutionary acts /illocutionary meaning, in outline form,the advertising writer intended to give statements about the advertised product, foe readers,illocutionary acts / illocutionary meaning, each of these ads had already targeted and specific targetedfor its prospective users. Perlocutionary acts / perlocution meaning has meaning as if the two-wayscommunication between the advertised product with potential buyers. Implicate happened is all theads implied that the advertised product is not a regular product, but they are the selected product andthe best.Suggestions related to the results of research are as follows: pragmatics is a science that isvery beneficial to the world of advertising for a product that was introduced in the community must beaccompanied by the sentence / speech / word which is able to make the prospective buyer / userinterested and decided to purchase / use these products, Science pragmatic needs to be introduced andtaught in the course is primarily for students of English Education in order to understand thecontext of what happened around them. Furthermore, the research and in-depth associated withadvertising and pragmatic needs to be held to answer curiosity more about The scientific treasures.Keywords: Pragmatics, Language Advertising, The Jakarta Post Online.

Abstract

This was a descriptive qualitative study which was done in 2017 at junior high schools in Semarang Central Java, Indonesia. This study focused on the teachers’ perception and teaching writing using word games. According to Chastain (1988) "writing is a basic communication skill and a unique tool in the process of second language learning" (p.244). The problem of this study was what are the teachers’ perception towards the word games used in enhancing the students’ writing skill? The sample of the research were 6 junior high schools’ students in Semarang central java, Indonesia. They were students of grade eighth at SMP N 8, SMPN 39, SMPN 36, SMP Institut Indonesia, SMP PGRI Semarang, and SMP Theresiana Semarang. A structured interview was kindly used as the instrument in collecting the data. The findings are; 1) Teaching writing is not easy and need to be creative to make students understand since they have to master the way hoe to organize a good paragraph or text. 2) Usually they do not apply any games in teaching writing since they got the material for granted. 3) Most of the teachers have known what word game is. Even they have applied it sometimes in speaking and vocabulary. 4) Teachers rarely do teaching English using word games by purpose. Especially teaching writing, teachers do not really pay attention on the current skill. 5) Even though some teachers do not really understand the way to use word games in the case of implementation but then, they are aware that students need a motivation in a space of teaching and learning process during filling the material. 6) Teachers like teaching writing using word games because word games can help them to motivate students in following the questions since the love playing while learning in the classroom. 7) teachers can motivate students to follow the lesson with fun, teachers easily follow the word games because it is equipped by the clear instructions, there are various word games which are related to teaching skills, word games are easily made/created by teachers based on the need of the lesson plan, word games are the simplest media to teach and long life. 8) word games which applicable to teach writing using word games are entitled broken sentence, mixed story, arranging sentence in a story, and getting occupation. The conclusions are The teachers’ perceptions towards teaching writing using word games are; teachers feel happy and fun during teaching writing using word games, teachers need more energy and time to maintain the word games, teachers should focus on the goal of writing mastery not the game itself, teachers should be creative in creating and organizing the word games, and teachers believe that word games are able to motivate students in following the lesson.  Key words: teachers’ perception, teaching writing, word games

Abstract

Abstract ?é?á Nowadays PAUD/ pre-school education is really important and urgent to be conducted in any villages or kampongs. Sampangan village Gajah Mungkur Semarang is one the villages that needs to be explored and held by the team of community service. Implementing PAUD is actually already arranged in UU no. 20/ 2003. By that rule, the team try to give some programs such as; socialization and training about what is PAUD, how to be PAUD instructors, how to teach children well. The training was held for 2 days started on 4-5 December 2010 at 08.00 am ?óÔé¼ÔÇ£ 04.00 pm, located in?é?á Sampangan Village the office hall, Gajahmungkur Semarang. ?é?áThe main purpose of this program is holding and socializing PAUD in that village in order to have more skills for the instructors in teaching children more interesting. Team used some methods in this training such as giving speech, discussion, simulation, and practice. By having those methods, it is hoped that the candidates of PAUD teachers will understand and comprehend about the materials dealing with what is PAUD and how to teach children more effective and interesting. ?é?á Key words: PAUD, socialization, instructor ?é?á

Abstract

Abstrak Berdasarkan PP No.1 tahun 2010 tentang Pengembangan Keprofesian Berkelanjutan disebutkan bahwa guru wajib melakukan pengembangan profesinya. Diantaranya adalah dengan melakukan karya tulis ilmiah dan publikasi ilmiah.Selanjutnya berdasarkan peraturan tersebut juga disebutkan bahwa untuk kenaikan pangkat seorang guru dari Golongan III b ke berikutnya seorang guru harus memiliki kredit poin yang berhubungan dengan pengembangan diri dan karya tulis ilmiah. Salah satu upaya melakukan penelitian yang berkenaan dengan pembelajaran di kelas adalah dengan melakukan PTK (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas). Di kota Semarang terdapat 89 SMK negeri dan swasta.Pada kenyataaannya. sebagian besar guru masih mengalami kesulitan untuk melakukan PTK?é?á yang disebabkan oleh kurangnya pengetahuan yang mendasar?é?á tentang PTK. Sedangkan permasalahan lain adalah?é?á pemahaman guru dan sekolah terhadap penelitian yang masih bervariasi sehingga mempengaruhi dalam penerapannya di lapangan. Terlebih untuk bidang studi bahasa Inggris di SMK, sebagian besar guru masih merasa kesulitan dalam melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas yang berkaitan dengan bidang studi yang diampunya. Berkaitan dengan hal tersebut di atas,maka dipandang perlu adanya penataran, pelatihan, pembimbingan, dan pendampingan tentang PTK. Oleh karena itu, tim Pengabdian pada Masyarakat IKIP PGRI Semarang berencana membatu para guru dalam melaksanakan PTK di lapangan. Keluaran yang diharapkan dari kegiatan ini adalah berupa laporan pelaksanaan PTK serta artikel ilmiah yang siap dipublikasikan dalam jurnal penelitian. ?é?á Kata kunci: PTK, guru bahasa Inggris SMK, workshop ?é?á ?é?á Abstract Based on Government Regulation No. 1 of 2010 on Sustainable professional development mentioned that teachers are required to perform their professional development . Among them is to conduct the scientific papers and publications. Then, based on that regulation is also mentioned that for the promotion of a teacher of level III b next to a teacher should have the credit points associated with self-development and scientific papers . One of the efforts to conduct research relating to the learning in the classroom is to do (Classroom Action Research ) . In Semarang, there are 89 vocational high Semarang state and private. In fact, in Semarang there are still most teachers have difficulty to perform PTK (Classroom Action Research ) caused by a lack of fundamental knowledge about it. Meanwhile, another problem is the understanding of teachers still varies so affecting in its application in the field. Especially in the field of English language studies at SMK , most teachers still feel difficulties in classroom action research related to the field of study. In connection with the above , it is seemed necessary to upgrading , training , coaching , and mentoring of PTK . Therefore , a team of Community Service University of PGRI Semarang have petrified teachers in implementing PTK in the field . The expected outcomes of this activity is a report on the implementation of PTK and scientific articles published in research journals ready. Abstract

Untuk memperoleh pemahaman dan demi tercapainya tujuan dari suatu pembelajaran maka diperlukan pemilihan strategi pembelajaran yang tepat. Begitu pula dengan empelajari Bahasa Inggris, perlu digunakannya strategi pembelajaran yang efektif dan efisien. Para ahli mengemukakan beberapa strategi pembelajaran (Language Learning Strategy) khususnya dalam menguasai kemampuan berbicara, strategi tersebut antara lain : strategi kognitif, strategi afektif dan strategi sosial. Dari ketiga strategi tersebut strategi sosial lebih dominan untuk digunakan dalam mengasah kemampuan berbicara (speaking). Strategi sosial lebih mengutamakan pada kemampuan sosial pembelajar, oleh sebab itu model pembelajaran kooperatif dengan model two stay two stray digunakan pada penelitian ini guna melihat dan mengamati dengan jelas seberapa jauh strategi sosial ini digunakan oleh peserta didik. Terdapat tiga kategori peserta didik yaitu rendah (low level student), sedang (middle level student) dan tingi (high level student) dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris peminatan di kelas XI IPA 6 SMA Negeri 6 Semarang. Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu kualitatif deskriptif yang berisi tentang penjelasan detil mengenai data yang dipaparkan dan dirancang tidak menggunakan data statistic. Adapaun teknik pengumpulan data yaitu melalui observasi dan juga wawancara.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa LLS tidak menggunakan strategi sosial dalam proses pembelajaran, sedangkan MLS menggunakan strategi sosial namun belum terlalu optimal dan HLS menggunakan strategi sosial dalam proses pembelajaran dengan sangat baik. Kata-kata Kunci:  Strategi sosial, Keterampilan Berbicara (speaking), Two Stay Two Stray
