Abstract

Parasitoids are natural enemies of insect pests that can be used for biological pest control. Effective performance of parasitoid on the insect pest can be disrupted by the use of insecticides. This paper discussed the effect of insecticides on parasitoids, as well as the effect of deltamethrin insecticide on the behavior and biology of parasitoids. The effect of insecticides on parasitoids generally was studied by using sublethal dosage. Review of literatures indicated that deltamethrin insecticide disturbed parasitoids which affected the nervous system, and ultimately changed the behavior and biology of parasitoids. Inappropriate use of insecticide in the field reduced the ability of parasitoids in controlling insect pests.

Abstract

The impact of deltamethrin on natural enemies can be determined directly through contact and oral applications or indirectly through residues on plants. This research was aimed to determine the indirect impact of deltamethrin on the egg parasitoid of Anagrus nilaparvatae.  The rice plants of Cisadane variety were infested with 10 gravid females of N. lugens. Deltamethrin was applied at two concentrations (12.5 and 6.25 ppm) and at 7, 3, 1 day and 3 hours before the parasitization. Deltamethrin residues on rice plants were decrease the number of Nilaparvata lugens, parasitoid and  parasitization level of A. nilaparvatae. This suggests that deltamethrin residue on rice plants could decrease the role of A. nilaparvatae in controlling N. lugens.

Abstract

Apis cerana has a wide distribution in Asia, including Sundaland, and is currently found in Wallacea, while the sister species, A. nigrocincta, is native in Sulawesi. The wide geographic distribution and the island isolation led to form morphological differences in the bees. The morph and wing venations are known to have a high genetic inheritance. Therefore, this research aimed to (1) analyze the landmark variation of wing venations of A. cerana from Sundaland and Wallacea, and A. nigrocincta from Sulawesi, (2) determine the relationship between these two bee species. The research was conducted by digitizing 550 wing venations based on nineteen landmarks. Our study on intraspecies showed that A. cerana Sumatra revealed a high variation in bending energy. Overall, the deformation grid of A. cerana from Sundaland has higher displacement than those from Wallacea, meaning higher variations of the Sundaland A. cerana. We found geometric morphometric markers of landmarks 16 and 17 in intraspecies and interspecies bees. Thus, these landmarks known as a cubital index can be used for species identification. The differentiation of interspecies has been shown in the PCA. Apis nigrocincta was separated from the single group of the centroid A. cerana and was supported by the Neighbor-Joining tree.

Abstract

Indonesia's cocoa plantations have a commodity is the value of exports. It has beenin, there are many constraints in increasing productivity. One is a pest and disease attacks. Government programs through Integrated pest control (PHT) on commodities cocoa plantation has pioneered since 1997 on five commodities including cocoa crops in some areas of Indonesia and in 2002 developed into six commodity in 12 provinces. The implementation of IPM through technology and Airy School IPM Integrated Pest Control (SL-PHT). The technology of PHT to control Fruit Penggerek Cocoapangkasan forms, such as harvesting, biological control, insecticide applications andveiling of the fruit; to control ladybirds MacGregor of the fruit are mechanically, technically cultures, biological and chemical; While the rotten fruit disease to control cocoa is sanitation, reducing moisture, cocoa crop planting and use of fungicide resistant. In addition to technology, SL-PHT was also very instrumental in the implementation of IPM in the cultivation of cocoa. Implementation of SL-PHT much improve the knowledge and skills of cocoa farmers in the cultivation of cocoa and have a positive impact in the implementation of IPM in plantations of cocoa. In line with this, then the implementation of IPM in the cocoa plantations of the people can be made sustainable if there is synergy between farmers, Governments, NGOs and related markets. Keywords: Cocoa, PHT, SL-PHT, PHT Cocoa Technology

Abstract

Sustainability of the Cocos Nucifera’s High Production Block (HPB) in Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency. Jambi Province is threatened by falling coconut prices. It influences the farmer's interest to do replanting and use certified seeds produced by HPB. The evaluation of HPB not only base on the economic dimension, but it should also accommodate broader dimensions. The purpose of the study is to analyze the sustainability of HPB. Primary data were obtained from observations, focus group discussions, and interviews with 20 respondents of HPB plantation owners, while secondary data were obtained from Statistics office and government agencies. The existing condition of the HPB was analyzed by comparing it with the standard of HPB and selected parent trees issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture. Analyzing of HPB sustainability used a modified Multi-Dimensional Scaling (MDS) Rapfish for coconut, then called Rap-ProBlock (The Rapid Appraisal of the Status of Cocos Nucifera's High Producing Block). The results showed that the sustainability indexes were sufficient and good for the social (64.18) and ecological (85.69) dimensions, the economic and technological dimensions had less sustainability (34.76 and 32.58), and the legal/institutional dimension was poor (9. 16). On a multi-dimensional basis, HPB sustainability was lacked (40.30). The recommended policies based on this research results among others are i.e. issuing the Local Regulation on Cocos Nucifera, establishing the Warehouse Receipt System which guarantees farmers a fair price, and, involving village enterprise to build coconut business units.

Abstract

Acid sulfate soil productivity is low due to the low availability of nutrients and high levels of soil acidity. It needs the organic material and dolomite to create the growing medium to be balance on its nutrient available, both physical and biological characteristic on the acid sulfated land. The aim of this research was to know the respond of cacao germ and the optimal doses of organic fertilizer of palm oil mill effluent. This research was take place in Jambi during September 2012 until March 2013. The factorial completely randomized design was applied. The first factor was organic fertilizer of palm oil mill effluent doses (0, 70, 140 and 280 ml.polybag-1 or equivalent with 0, 28.000, 56.000 and 84.000 l.ha-1). The second factor was dolomit doses (0, 2 and 4 g.polybag-1 or equivalent with 0, 800 and 1600 kg.ha-1). Kakao Lindak Klon ICS 13 was used as indicator plant. The acid sulfated soil was taken from Lagan Ulu Village Tanjung Jabung Timur District Jambi Province. The result of the research showed that the respond of cacao germ toward to an organic fertilizer of palm oil mill effluent and dolomite useness effected on the increasing of vegetative growth. Generally conclusions showed that the combination of 800 kg.ha-1 of dolomite and 84.000 l.ha-1 organic fertilizer of palm oil mill effluent was the optimal treatment which show the maximum of plant high, crown dry weigh, leaf wide and root crown ratio.
