Abstract

Mangrove forest are plant communities which cover tidal areas in the tropics. Nusa Lembongan mangrove forest is a natural forest with an area of 202 hectares. The rapid development of the world tourism utilizing mangrove forest has caused a lot of pressures to the mangrove forest of area studied. This study aimed to determine the structure and diversity of mangrove species in Nusa Lembongan mangrove forest which was associated with environmental conditions both soil and climate factors. Transect method with square frame along the line was applied in vegetation analysis. Data showed that the vegetation in the mangrove forest consisted of four growth stages, namely tree, pole, sapling and seedling. There were 12 species of trees, 6 species of poles, 4 species of saplings and 5 species of seedlings. Rhizophora apiculata Blume of family Rhizoporaceae was the dominant species among the four growth stages with important value of 115.48%, 132.276%, 185.084%, 185.084%, and 165.882% respectively. There were 13 mangrove species found with diversity index of 2.461 and the forest was fairly stable. This is because the forest sufficiently supported by environmental factors, including dry climate-type F (Schmidth dan Ferguson), high water salinity, soil textures of clay and sandy loam, generally ranging from moderate to high organic matters and calm coastal area.

Abstract

This research was carried out in Tanjung Bastian Beach, on February and March 2009. The aim of this research is to identify composition, structure and environment condition of mangrove vegetation in Tanjung Bastian Beach, North Middle East Regency, Province of Nusa Tenggara Timur.Research method used was observation and squares sampling technique that straight with beach line toward upland. Data was analyzed using vegetation analysis.The result of this research shows that Tanjung Bastian mangrove with mangrove thickness about 50 – 1000 m, arranged by 29 type mangrove vegetation which consist of 11 major mangrove, 5 minor mangrove and 13 mangrove associate. In the A location where the activity was high, Significant Value Index of plant level and highest plant, dominated by Bruguiera gymnorrhiza 79,49% and 99,88%, while for pole level and seedling, dominated by Rhizophora apiculata 106,93% and 50,02%. In B location, the highest INP of plant level, pole and seedling dominated by B. gymnorrhiza with score 62,03%; 99,57%; 108,52% and 48,22%. B. gymnorrhiza also dominates for plant level, pole and seedling in C location with each value 55,05%; 49,68%; 69,39% and 35,81%. B. gymnorrhiza is predicted to dominate mangrove trees population in the Tanjung Bastian mangrove area. This is indicated with high population of seedling level and pole in the location with medium activity level and nature forest. Vegetation Variety Index Tanjung Bastian beach mangrove range between 0.6774 -1,1513, catagorized as poor.Destruction level of mangrove vegetation in C location nature forest is still in good category, while for B and A location medium and high activity is categorized as damage mangrove forest according to SK MENLH RI No. 201 Year 2004, about Standard Criteria and Standard of Mangrove Damage Principle.Condition of basic substrate in Tanjung Bastian mangrove dominated by sandy loam with organic-C range between 0,40 -4,04%. N value, range between 0,03 -0.12%, P, 12,72 -44,47ppm, while K rate, 202,81 – 671,42 ppm. Mangrove temperature condition range between 28,87 – 30,950C, with pH rate 7,5 -8,0 and salinity range between 30 -33%o.

Abstract

Since January 1992 MIC has initiate Tahura Ngurah Rai are as a ecotourism area, offering programs such as :Mangrove Education Tour & Tracking, Bird Watching; Finishing; Mangrove Tree Plantation or Adoption, Canoeing, andBoating programs. However, its growth has not me the management’s targets in term of the number of visitors, improvedfacilities available, and the surrounding Tahura are – especially its cleanliness-these are far from expectation standard.The evaluation of eco-tourism area of Tahura is aimed at understanding the profile of the eco-tourism area and tounderstand to what extent the ecotourism has met criteria/principles issued in the national workshop. This ecotourism willoffer recommendations designed in relation to programs that has not been working so far after identifying obstacles oftheir implementation.The method used in the evaluation of this eco-tourism area I descriptive analysis by analyzing interview data,observations, and literature studies. These descriptive data then are measured against criteria and principles of nationaleco-tourism.Since March 12, 2007 Mangrove forest area is under the management of BPHM-wil-I continuing JICA ICprogram. Facilities available in the area are as follows; Wood Trails, 5 Huts along the trail, Floating Decks, 2 ViewingTowers; MIC/BPHM Office Building, Touch Pools, Seeding area, and a Monitor Pool. These facilities right now are stillin good condition and can be used to implement the eco-tourism programs.From the 6 programs offered, the Mangrove Education Tour & Tracking Program gets the most interests fromvisitors than the other 5 programs. From 9 criteria used to evaluate the programs, the outcome is as follows: 1) Beingsensitive to and respecting socio-cultural values and religious tradition of local community (88% met); 2) Showingconcern, commitment, and responsibility to natural conservation and cultural heritage (95,24% met); 3) Provideinterpretation that facilities visitors to enjoy nature and increase their awareness and concern for nature (85,71% met); 4)Educational in which there is a mutual learning between visitors and community (100% met); 5) Its development be basedon local community through agreement (20% met); 6) Empower and optimize participant and at the same time bring forthon going contribution to the local community (0% met), 7) To go by existing rules and law (100% met); 8) Consistentlysatisfy the visitors (50% met), 9) Being marketed and promoted openly and accurately to meet expectation – that is amarketing responsibility (100% met). Generally the result from comparison between ecotourism program withprincipal/criteria are as follows : from nine principles that already explained only the fifth and sixth principal whose itsdevelopment less than 50%, based on those condition above it can be conclude that mangrove ecotourism developmentalready fulfill the principal/criteria of national ecotourism. Important points of recommendations to the management areas follows; community participation; retributions, waste management; improvement of programs that are not working;and eco-tourism management under a solid institution.
