Abstract

In addition to decorate the yard, plant namnam (Cynometra cauliflora) turns out to have merit as an herbal remedy because it has biological activities such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, cytotoxic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antitumor and antidiabetic. It is study will add to scientific information about plants Namnam the potential to be developed as a functional food and natural herbal remedies in particular as antidiabetic agents and antidiarrheal. Ability as an antidiabetic agent tested by the ability of plants Namnam inhibit α-amylase. Meanwhile, antidiarrheal activity will be tested against the isolated rabbit intestine recorded on kymograph. The analysis showed that the leaf extract of plant Namnam (C. cauliflora) at a concentration of 100 mg/mL, 250 mg/mL and 300 mg/mL each is able to inhibit α-amylase activity by 20.68%; 70.24% and 72.59% and IC50 of 200.67 ± 0.53 mg/mL. The study also showed that the sample tested has the ability to decrease the activity of isolated rabbit intestine in the pattern described in kymograph. Thus the plant leaves Namnam (C. cauliflora) potential to be developed as antidibetes agent and antidiarrheal.  This may partially explain the use in traditional medicine for the treatment of diarrhea. Abstract

To investigate the impact of consuming enzymatically synthesized maltooligosaccharide using Bacillus licheniformis BLl amylase on reduction of serum cholesterol level, in preclinical study groups of Sprague Dawley rats were fed for 3 weeks with four different test diets: basal diet (BD), high serum cholesterol-stimulating basal diet (CD), high serum cholesterol-stimulating basal diet supplemented with 3% (w/w feed) commercial maltooligosaccharide (CI), and high serum cholesterol-stimulating basal diet supplemented with 3% (w/w feed) maltooligosaccharide synthesized by enzimatic reaction of B. licheniformis BLl amylase (CB).Our result shows a reduction of serum cholesterol level up to 39.1% in rats CB after three weeks consuming maltooligosaccharide synthesized using B. licheniformis BLl amylase. In addition, significantly increased blood glucose level was not found in this study as an impact of consuming maltooligosaccharide synthesized using B. licheniformis BLl amylase.

Abstract

Sheep is one of achievable animal protein sources. Therefore, they need to be transported to/in different places to fulfill the demand of mutton. This research was conducted to know the impact of transportation on stress as presented by leucocyte differentiation (N:L ratio). Blood were taken from sheep without stress transportation as a control for 12 hours.In this research, 12 sheep were divided into 3 groups: KP (control with stress),PA (stress with combination multivitamin and meniran - Phyllanthus niruri L.), PB (stress with combination multivitamin).Blood samples were taken at 0 hour (pre-transportation), 4h, 8h, 12h (during transportation) and 24h, 48h, 72h (post-transportation) to observe leucocyte differentiation. The results showed that ratio N:L (as stress indicator) were higher at all time periods during transportation and after the transportation. Sheep as a control group had reached the peak of ratio N:L at 0 h, meanwhile sheep with combination of multivitamin and meniran at 12 h and sheep with multivitamin only at 8. It means that the sheep with combination of multivitamin and meniran treatment was more effective to response the transportation stress.

Abstract

dikembangkan melalui pendekatan hewan model untuk mempelajari tentang PJK. Minyak goreng yang digunakan secara berulang dapat meningkatkan kadar asam lemak bebas yang berdampak negatif bagi kesehatan terutama jantung dan pembuluh. Tujuan dari penelitian ini mengukur indeks aterogenik plasma (IAP) dan indeks Castelli (IC) dari mencit model yang diinduksi minyak trans (MT). Sebanyak 16 ekor mencit galur DDY dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok yaitu mencit yang diinduksi 20% minyak trans (MT20), 40% minyak trans (MT40) dan 60% minyak trans (MT60) dan kontrol (K). Persentase minyak trans diberikan berdasarkan dari total energi konsumsi pakan harian. Minyak trans diberikan per oral sehari sekali selama 70 hari. Darah diambil pada hari ke-70 dari vena lateral ekor tikus untuk mengukur profil lipid plasma yaitu kolesterol total, trigliserida (TG), High Density Lippoprotein (HDL) dan Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) plasma  menggunakan alat uji cepat Lipid Pro®. Nilai Indeks Aterogenik Plasma (IAP) yaitu log (TG/HDL) dan Indeks Castelli (IC) yaitu LDL/HDL. Hasil pengkuran profil lipid plasma menunjukkan kolesterol total, trigliserida, HDL dan LDL plasma pada kelompok MT meningkat secara nyata dibandingkan kontrol (sig<0,05). Nilai IA pada mencit yang diberi minyak trans berbeda nyata dari kontrol (sig<0,05) dan memiliki risiko tinggi. Nilai IC pada mencit yang diberi minyak trans berbeda nyata dari kontrol (sig<0,05) dan memiliki risiko sedang-tinggi. Minyak trans meningkatkan nilai indeks aterosklerosis dan indeks resiko koroner mencit.Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is a "silent killer" disease. Various studies were developed through an animal model approach to studying CHD. Cooking oil that is used repeatedly can increase levels of free fatty acids which have a negative impact on health, especially the heart and vessels. The aim of this study was to measure the plasma atherogenic index (IAP) and Castelli index (IC) of trans oil-induced model mice (MT). A total of 16 DDY mice were divided into 4 groups, namely mice induced with 20% trans oil (MT20), 40% trans oil (MT40) and 60% trans oil (MT60) and control (K). The percentage of trans oil is given based on the total energy consumption of the daily feed. Trans oil is given orally once a day for 70 days. Blood was taken on the 70th day from the lateral vein of the rat tail to measure the plasma lipid profile, namely total cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), High Density Lippoprotein (HDL) and plasma Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) using the Lipid Pro® rapid test kit. The Plasma Atherogenic Index (IAP) values are log (TG / HDL) and the Castelli Index (IC) is LDL / HDL. The results of measuring the plasma lipid profile showed that plasma total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL and LDL in the MT group increased significantly compared to the control (sig<0,05). The IA value in mice treated with trans oil was significantly different from the control (sig<0.05) and had a high risk. The IC value in mice treated with trans oil was significantly different from the control (sig<0.05) and had a medium-high risk. Trans oil increased the atherosclerosis index and coronary risk index of mice.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain the physiological value of dugongs that live in natural habitats (in-situ) as protected wildlife, namely on the coast of Lingayan Island, Toli-Toli Regency. Wild dugongs caught on the beach were put into a net cage. After 14 days of living in a beach cage, measurements of heart rate, respiration, and body temperature were measured using non-invasive methods. This study showed that the value of heart rate, respiration, and body temperature were measured (80.00±17.32) beats/minutes, (17.33±6.80) inspiration/minute, and (32.75±0.07)°C. This physiological value is higher when compared to dugongs that live in captivity, this is likely due to the process of homeostasis through physiological adaptation mechanisms. The physiological value of the dugong is very important for the advancement of dugong animal health science and technology. Besides this finding can be a medical reference that is very useful for veterinarians in the diagnostic and therapeutic process.

Abstract

This research was conducted to study hematological condition (total erythrocyte, concentration of haemoglobin, and packed cell valome value) sheep during transportation with combination of multivitamin-meniran. Twelve Priangan sheep were divided of into 3 groups i.e, sheep with transportation stress (control), transportation stress and multivitamin (Treatment B). The sheep were given stress transportation for 12 hours within 250 km around Bogor district. Blood samples were taken at 0 hour (pre transportation), 4h, 8h, 12h (during transportation) and 24h, 48h, 72h (post transportation) to observe total erythrocyte, concentration of haemoglobin increased and researched the peak at 8 hours although the range is still in normal condition. Packed cell volume of sheep under stress did not change. It was concluded that the combination of multivitamin-meniran was effective in maintaining haematological condition during sheep transportation.

Abstract

Myelocytes blood cell tumor in chicken is a disease caused by retrovirus, avian leukosis virus subgroup J (ALV-J). The virus has the same group as human retrovirus (HIV) which caused AIDS, but the avian type possesses oncogenic properties, that could induce cell transformation and tumor formation. ALV-J stimulates the bone marrow's myelocytes and transforms them into tumor cell myelocytoma. The tumor cells then metastasis through the circulatory system causing myeloid leukosis and tumor cells accumulation in various internal organs or myelocytomatosis. This study was done on the base of the leukosis behavior of the tumor. The finding of the metastasis tumor cell in the blood smear examination is thought could be use as the diagnostic clue of the disease. Blood smear from sick chickens are collected and stained with some chemical staining substance such as may grunwald-giemsa, hematoxyllin eosin, periodic acid Schiff, congo red, toluidine blue, and sudan black B. Cytochemistry character of the blood cells was observed using light microscope. The result showed that myelocytes granules were best observed using hematoxyllin eosin, periodic acid Schiff, congo red and toluidine blue while may grunwald-giemsa, and sudan black B could not differentiate the granules. By this method, the field veterinarian will able to screen the suspected chicken flock for myeloid leukosis earlier than the occurrence of tumor formation.

Abstract

The experiment was carried out to observe the effect of adding lemuru fish oil in immunized laying hens diet on the health status of chicken through leucocyte profile, stress index, erythrocyte profile, and malonildehyde concentration in liver and spleen. The research design was completely randomized and the obtained data was analized with analysis of variance and continued with Tukey’s Post Hoc test for differences. The experiment used thirty 18 weeks hens ISA brown strain and were divided into five groups. The groups were: A (immunization with lipase and control diet); B (immunization with lipase, control diet + 1% lemuru fish oil); C (immunization with lipase, control diet + 2% lemuru fish oil); D (immunization with lipase, control diet + 3% lemuru fish oil); and E (unimmunized and control diet). The immunization was repeated three times with four weeks interval, blood was collected and analyzed two weeks after immunization and the malonyldehyde concentration in liver and spleen was measured two weeks after third immunization. The results showed that there was no significant difference (P>0.05) on all variables. The conclusion of this research that lemuru fish oil supplementation did not affect the health status of immunized hens

Abstract

Testosteron merupakan salah satu hormon anabolik yang dapat memacu pertumbuhan massa otot dan tulang. Hormon testosteron mampu merangsang sekresi growth hormone yang berperan dalam pertumbuhan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh pemberian hormon testosteron dengan dosis bertingkat terhadap performa dan kecernaan pakan ayam broiler. Sebanyak 44 ekor ayam broiler berumur 15 hari dengan rata-rata bobot badan antara 650 ± 71 g dibagi menjadi 4 kelompok (K, T1, T2, dan T3). K adalah kelompok kontrol; T1, T2, dan T3 adalah kelompok yang diberi testosteron dosis 1, 2, dan 4 mg per ekor. Parameter yang diukur adalah bobot badan, konsumsi pakan, rasio konversi pakan, serta persentase kandungan nutrisi (di dalam pakan dan feses). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian testosteron dosis 1 dan 4 mg dapat meningkatkan pertambahan bobot badan harian secara signifikan (p<0,05) pada ayam broiler yang berumur antara 15 dan 18 hari. Testosteron dosis 2 mg meningkatkan bobot badan harian secara signifikan (p<0,05) pada ayam broiler yang berumur antara 21 dan 24 hari. Konsumsi pakan, rasio konversi pakan, dan kecernaan pakan ayam broiler yang diberi hormon testosteron tidak menunjukkan perbedaan dibanding dengan kontrol. Akan tetapi, pada kelompok yang diberi testosteron dosis 4 mg, nilai kecernaan lemak, protein, dan karbohidrat cenderung meningkat.Kata kunci: broiler, kecernaan, pertambahan bobot badan harian, proksimat, testosteron (Broiler Chickens Performance and Feed Digestibility Treated with Multi-Dose Testosterone Hormone)Testosterone is one of the anabolic hormone that can trigger the growth of muscle mass and bone. Testosterone hormone can stimulate secretion of growth hormone that has a role in growth. The aim of this research was to observe the administration of multi-dose testosterone hormone on broiler chickens performance and feed digestibility. Fourty four broiler chickens 15 days old with average weight 650 ± 71 g were divided into 4 groups (K, T1, T2, and T3). K was control group; T1, T2, and T3 were groups which given testosterone dose 1, 2, and 4 mg each chicken. Parameters measured were body weight, feed consumption, feed conversion ratio (FCR), and nutritions percentage (in feed and feces). The results showed that testosterone dose 1 and 4 mg could increase the daily body weight gain significantly (p<0.05) in broiler chickens aged between 15 and 18 days old. Testosterone dose 2 mg could increase the daily body weight gain significantly (p<0.05) in broiler chickens aged between 21 and 24 days old. Feed consumption, FCR, and feed digestibility of chickens given testosterone did not show any difference compare with control. However, in group which given testosterone dose 4 mg, the digestibility values of fat, protein, and carbohydrates tended to increase.Keywords: broiler, digestibility, daily body weight gain, proximate, testosterone

Abstract

Mortality, growth and conception development after placentation are affected by capacity and placenta function which are influenced by hormonal and growth factor to succed pregnancy till birth. Growth hormone is protein or polypeptide hormone. It influences protein metabolism, increases amino acid up take, carbohydrate metabolism, gluconeogenesis, fat mobilizatin, minerals metabolism and the development of cartilage that will lead to growth. The purpose of this research is to observe the effectiveness of somatotropin on the growth of fetus. Forty pregnant rat were divided to 4 groups, they were K (not given somatotropin), A (given somatotropin 9 mg/kg BW at 12 to 20 days of pregnancy), B (given somatotropin  9 mg/kg BW at 2 to 11 days of pregnancy), C (given somatotropin  9 mg/kg BW  at 2 to 20 days of pregnancy). Parameters observed were ovulation rate, implantation rate, development/growth of uterus and placenta, size of fetus, and pups growth. The result showed that somatotropin could increase implantation succed, development of uterus and placenta that are followed by good performance of reproduction during pregnancy and also birth body weight pups.Keywords: Somatotropin, Pregnancy, Pups.
