Abstract

 ABSTRACT The effect of activation temperature and duration on the activity of petroleum coke has been investigated. A mixture of green coke and KOH (1:1) was heated in an oven furnace at 450°C for 1 h, then continued to activation process at 450-900°C for 1-3 h. The product mixture was immersed in a solution of 10% H2SO4 before being washed with deionized water to neutral pH. After being dried, activated cokes were tested with a solution of phenol, 4-nitrophenol, 2,4-dinitrophenol or methylen blue. Experimental data showed that the activity of coke imcreased with temperature and time. The effective condition of the activation process is at temperatures higher than 750°C and activation time of longer than 1,5 h. Adsorptive behavior of phenolics dan metylene blue onto activated coke agreed with Langmuir rather than with Freundlich isotherm.  Keywords: temperature effect, activation time, petroleum coke, adsorption capacity, phenolics, methylen blue.

Abstract

The adsorption isotherms of phenol from aqueous solution onto adsorbents obtained from egg shell (ESA) andpalm shell (PSA) were investigated. The objectives of the investigation were to understand the effect of bothadsorbents on solution pH and to study the adsorption equilibrium of phenol onto the adsorbents. The effect ofadsorbent on pH of solution was studied by shaking the adsorbent of 0.1 to 1.5 g with 100 ml of acidic aqueoussolution for 30 min at room temperature. The adsorption experiments were performed by stirring appropriateamount of adsorbent with 100 ml of 50 mg/l concentration of phenol at constant temperature and pressure. TheLangmuir and Fraundlich adsorption models were applied to experimental data and the isotherm constants werecalculated using linier regression analysis. The results showed that the adsorption capacity of the adsorbentsincreases with increasing of dosage and contact time. Also, pH of solution affected the adsorption isotherm ofphenol, where maximum adsorption was observed at pH values lower than 9.

Abstract

Transformation of the traditional sciences into a scientific knowledge of traditional jamu production by local community of Cilacap, Center Java, has been studied. The research was intended to transfrom the original science of Jawa community into scientific knowledge. The output of the research is a set of scientific kenowledge as a result of reconstruction of the original sciences of Jawa community, i.e. in processing traditional Jamu, and it can be used by science teachers as a learning source or a contextual model of teaching in a classroom activities. This research is a descriptive-qualitative research, and the researchers were involved directly in collecting data, i.e. observation, interview, discussion, and collection of informations and documents. The data were analysed, verified, transformed into scientific knowledge, and interpreted to obtain the meaningful information. Focus of the research is a tradition of Cilacap community in producing traditional Jamu, including the production process, types of jamu and its effect to human health. The research concludes that traditional science producing traditional jamu can be transformed into a set of scientific knowledge.

Abstract

A set of syllabus and lesson plans of science chemistry charaterizing group investigation (GI) model andenvironment as learning resources for 7th-grade students of SMP has been developed. The development theproduct was intended to design an active and joyful instructional process for 7th-grade students of SMP inlearning science chemistry. The procedure of the development adopted Hannafin and Peck model that consists ofthree phases. This model was started with a need assessment and analysis (phase 1), then was designing process(phase 2), and finally development and implementation in a real teaching (phase 3). According to experts thedeveloped products are characterized by GI with environmental media. The result of research showed that theproducts could improve student’s activities in learning process.

Abstract

Learning process in SMPN 5 Jambi is still dominated by the behavior paradigm with low learning outcomes.This study aims to reveal the significance of the student-centered learning, using quasi-experimental design. Weemployed research instrument of science process skills test results and creativity questionnaire. The collecteddata were analyzed using ANOVA and Tuckey test. The results, there was no significant of the effect of theinvestigation group model and creativity on science process skills (p = 0.083). The results also indicate theinteraction between group investigation model and science process skills (p = 0.03). The teacher applies thegroup investigation model for high creativity students.

Abstract

This is a study of the attitudes and perceptions of students and teachers towards e-learning in some schools in the city of Jambi. Information in the form of knowledge attitudes and perceptions of students and teachers towards e-learning becomes an input for teachers in a lesson plan. With the approach combined methods of research sequential-explanatory model of the phase I study design using quantitative methods to answer the problem formulation, and phase II testing hypotheses using qualitative methods to establish, expand and deepen the results of quantitative research methods. The total population of 1,661 people, and 175 students are samples obtained by random and representative for purposive quantitative methods to qualitative methods, and teachers sampled 37 of the 48 people.Quantitative data collected through filling questionnaire and qualitative data by interview and observation, descriptive analysis results obtained variable values Student Attitudes (SS) = 78.3%, variables Student Perceptions (PS) = 78.4% and variable E-learning (EL) = 78.3% and each variable in both categories. For teacher sample of from descriptive analysis values variable Teacher Attitudes  (SG) = 79.4%, variable Teacher Perceptions (PG) = 79.8% and variable EL = 78.7% and each variable in both categories. Overall attitudes and perceptions of students and teachers towards e-learning in science teaching is good.

Abstract

Local content mediated PBL model is a facility to make students active and also as a media to deliver massages in learning process that make an independent student. By knowing student’s learning style, the teacher can implement the suitable learning model. So it can increase the learning result. Based on the result of this research we found the effect of learning model of local content mediated PBL to the learning result. The learning result is different between students who have kinesthetic learning style and student who have auditory learning style. Given the existence interaction between learning models of local content mediated PBL and learning style to the student’s learning result it can be concluded that by knowing student’s learning style, the teacher can implement the appropriate lesson model that ultimately could increase students’ learning result.

Abstract

Lab activity is necessary in studying science especially physics. It is needed to support theoretical teaching activity in the classroom. Lab plays important roles in physics teaching-learning activities. The facts, many schools have inadequate lab facilities to support lab works and thus limited lab activities can be done. To improve physics teaching-learning activities with limited lab facilities, virtual lab is necessary to be developed to ensure that theoretical teaching materials are supported by lab activity in virtual manner. The purpose of this study was to develop virtual lab for subtopic of optics. Students’ responses on the virtual lab were obtained through small and large student groups. The final product was used in a real teaching activity and it shows that students paid more attention on the product and involved actively in virtual lab activity.

Abstract

The ability to solve problems is a skill that students need to have in dealing with various problems in life. This study aims to determine the effect of problem based learning models; cognitive styles and interaction between both factors on science learning outcomes of students in class VII of MTs 2 Tanjung Jabung Timur in academic year 2015/2016. This research was conducted with a quasi-experimental research method by applying a 2 × 2 factorial design. The study sample consisted of an experimental class of 30 students and a control class of 29 students. Data collection was conducted using two types of instruments, namely the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT) to measure students cognitive styles and students' learning outcomes test in essay forms. The Problem Based Learning model affect the learning outcomes, there is significant difference in science learning outcomes between students who have Cognitive field dependent (FD) style that is taught by the Problem Based Learning model and students who have Cognitive FD style that is taught by conventional learning models. The results show that the value of the experimental class post-test is higher than that of the control class. In short, the experimental class with the application of the Problem Based Learning model in the learning process provides higher learning outcomes than that of the conventional models.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menghasilkan produk LKPD dan RPP dengan pengayaan karakter. Pada materi sistem tata surya kelas VII, mengetahui kelayakan LKPD oleh ahli materi, ahli desain, guru dan siswa serta untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan LKPD hasil pengembangan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan menggunakan model ADDIE. Data proses pengembangan dihimpunmenggunakan angket validasi ahli desain, ahli materi, respon guru dan siswa serta data hasil belajar siswa setelah menggunakan LKPD. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa LKPD yang dikembangkan layak digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran. Setelah diimplementasikan penggunaan produk LKPD hasil pengembangan dalam proses pembelajaran, terjadi peningkatan rata-rata dari 58,33 menjadi 74,58 dengan selisih gain sebesar 16,25 terjadi peningkatan hasil belajar. Berdasarkan hasil pengembangan dapat disimpulkan bahwa media pembelajaran cetak LKPD diakategorikan menarik, dan layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran.
