Abstract

This paper proposes a new technique for a voltage source multilevel inverter (MLI) with reduced switch count, and it creates a smoother sinusoidal output waveform with reduced total harmonic distortion (THD). Therefore, the proposed technique identifies a better position in the list of multilevel converters used for power quality conditioners. Semiconducting devices are added to it if the number of levels increases. In this work, the topology of MLI with reduced number of switches is presented. A new MLI is proposed with lower number of switches and sources in order to achieve higher level. The proposed topology is framed out with the combination of three half bridge and a single H-bridge configuration. Detailed simulation results for 15-level inverter of single and three phase inverters are presented in this paper. Three phase 15-level inverter is developed by employing three isolated different renewable sources and 21 switches.

Abstract

This paper proposes quick & accurate islanding detection technique for a distribution system with distributed generators (DGs). Here two schemes of islanding detection based on signal processing is proposed of which one is based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT) with artificial neural network (ANN), and another one is based on S-transform with ANN. The negative sequence current/voltage signals are retrieved at targeted DG location which are used for islanding detection in the distribution system. Here, the wavelet and S-transforms are used for fault location and classification applications. Further, the feature extraction is used for reducing the size of data matrix by transforming it into set of features. In this work, particle swarm optimization (PSO) based feature selection scheme is applied. Simulation results on test system indicate the efficacy of proposed islanding detection techniques.

Abstract

Electricity is the most important consideration for individual needs. Natural crossover power architecture using photovoltaic and wind is presented in this study, together with a Cuk direct current-direct current (DC-DC) converter, third phase inverter, and an inductors capacitors (LC) filter. Due to its natural disposal and availability in India, wind power and photovoltaics are ideal for the hybrid system. Hybrid power structures, on the other hand, reduce the risk of damage to equipment in sustainable stock storage since they have a higher electrical output. MATLAB Simulink was used to demonstrate this hybrid application. Before connecting the entire DC voltage frame with the main lattice of the power frame, blocks such as the wind model, PV model, Cuk converter, inverter, and LC channel are built individually. Information limitations for participating in varying levels of irradiance and variations in wind speed. The results show that the hybrid system has a considerably more reliable standard in terms of energy efficiency than an independent framework. Furthermore, the hybrid system's Cuk DC-DC converter, three-phase standard-based inverter, and LC channel can minimise power switching power.

Abstract

The emission of greenhouse gasses from transportation vehicles is one of the most alarming environmental threats and the emission of these gases is mounting at a distressing pace. Limited fossil fuel resources are also a threat to the automobile industry. This work aims to describe the solar-powered electric vehicle (SPEV) as the key to solving the downside of fuel and pollution. A battery is used in an electric vehicle (EV) which is charged from both external power supply and also from photovoltaic (PV) panels which absorb radiation from the sunlight and generate electrical power. A maximum power point tracker (MPPT) controller is employed to track the utmost power. A buck-Boost converter is utilized to amplify the DC voltage procured from the photovoltaic module and then the boosted output is transmitted to a three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI). VSI is used to transform the solar DC voltage to AC voltage and feeds the brushless direct current (BLDC) motor which controls vehicle applications.

Abstract

The microgrid concept provides a flexible power supply to the utility where the conventional grid is unable to supply. The microgrid structure is based on renewable energy sources known as distributed generators (DGs) and the power network. Nevertheless, the power quality (PQ) is a great challenge in the microgrid concept. Particularly the inclusion of renewable energy sources into the conventional grids increases the problems in the quality of power, like voltage sag/swell, oscillatory transient, voltage flickering, and voltage notching which reduces the quality and reliability of the power supply. In this paper, a microgrid is considered which consists of PV cells as DG, battery energy storage system (BESS), and a novel control strategy known as the nonlinear autoregressive exogenous model (NARX). The proposed controller is an improved artificial neural network (ANN). The various case studies like sag/swell, unbalanced condition, and voltage deviation have been simulated with the model. The comprehensive simulation results are compared with the proportional-integral (PI) controller. Hence in this paper, the robustness of the proposed controller has been studied through different situations.

Abstract

The decline of competence effectuated by the unreplenishable energy etymology due to the plummet of fossil fuels has created an alternate need for renewable energy sources to play a vital role in providing power at a larger scale. Thus, a new system of distribution of energy resources is introduced to tackle the ever-growing demand for power and safety of the environment using renewable energy sources with the traditional ways of transmitting power. Such challenges can be overcome by using hybrid microgrids which helps in detecting and hegemonizing faults more dexterously sanctioning sharing of load and instinctive switching through various algorithms thus improving the system accuracy and adaptability. This exertion incorporates the modeling of an AC hybrid microgrid system analyzed in the is-landed mode. Fuel stack and the photo-voltaic cell are used as renewable energy power sources. It also includes the PID control method to the solution the most encountered problems in a microgrid. The engaged control modus operandi can modulate and regulate the output voltage at an expected and paradigm value. The whole AC hybrid microgrid and its control are simulated in MATLAB/simulink R2020b.

Abstract

This paper presents a branch exchange (BE) based heuristic network reconfiguration technique where, the proposed bus classification strategy remodels dynamically as per the modified topology in order to provide a reconfigured network with minimum loss. Further, for fair allocation of the active power losses, it develops a new active power loss allocation (APLA) technique which eradicates the influence of cross-term analytically from loss formulation without any assumptions and approximations. The effectiveness of the proposed procedure has been investigated against other established methods using a 69-bus radial distribution network (RDN). The results of APLA achieved for original and reconfigured 69-bus RDN are found to be promising and judicious as regard to their load demands and geographical locations. The implementation of present reconfiguration procedure provides a total loss reduction benefit of 55.73% to the utility which highlights the significance of the developed procedure against other established techniques.

Abstract

For solving the different optimization problems, the cuckoo search is one of the best nature's inspired algorithms. It is an effective technique compare to other optimization methods. For this manuscript, we are using a back propagation neural network for the Xintai power plant consist of short-term electrical load forecasting. The limitation of back propagation is overcome by the cuckoo search algorithm. The function is used for cuckoo search is Gamma probability distribution and its result is compared with other possible cuckoo search methods. The mean average percentage error of Gamma cuckoo search is 0.123%, cuckoo search with Pareto based is 0.127% and Levy based cuckoo search is 0.407%. Other results of the cuckoo search are also found by a linear decreasing switching parameter with a mean average error is 0.344% and 0.389% of mean average error with the use of an exponentially increasing switching parameter. This improved cuckoo search algorithm brings good results in the predicted load which is very important for the Xintai power plant using short-term load forecasting.

Abstract

This paper is based on the improvement of power quality (PQ) using fuel cell and fuzzy based controller. By using the proposed controller, the quality of power in the grid system especially in micro grid connected with non- linear and unbalanced load is enhanced. The configuration of the system is combined with hybrid arrangement of photovoltaic ([PV) with wind energy conversion system (WECS), fuel cell (FC) including the compressed air energy storage system (CAES) where the power management is controlled by using the distributed power sharing technique. In this proposed system the distortions in voltage at point of common coupling (PCC) is decreased by using the FC which acts as compensator in hybrid system. Reference current is developed which depends on real and reactive power of the source connected to the compensator. Based on demand of power for nonlinear load, without using any external communication interfaces, the proposed control theory can change the modes of operation and can compensate the unbalance in the system which is caused due to single-phase micro sources and load changes. The complete productive design of the micro-sources and power electronic converters are presented in the paper. The operation and performance of the proposed controller used in microgrid is validated through simulation in MATLAB/Simulink environment.
