Abstract

The purpose of this research is to develop a home-based trip generation model and analyze the variables that influence the trip generation model of people. This study focuses on the trip generation of home-based people in the Medan-Binjai-Deli Serdang (Mebidang) area so that the sample to be used in households that make home-based trips in the region. The mathematical model that generated regression with the dependent variable the number of home-based trips affected by several independent variables that influence it. The resulting model was then validated by the VIF and Anova tests and the Heteroscedasticity test. From the results of this study, it is expected that a trip generation model of home-based trip generation in the Mebidang urban area will be generated so that it can be known what factors influence the trip generation of the area.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Forests play an important role in the livelihoods of local people in most developing countries. Local people depend on forest resources for various products such as building materials, medicines, and food.  This study examined the benefits and economic feasibility of suren (Toona sureni) cultivation as a forest plant species that is widely used by local people for various needs. Interviews were conducted with selected respondents of forest communities in Sipolha Horison Village, Pematang Sidamanik District, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra Province by purposive sampling method from May to June 2018. The analysis of the benefits of suren wascarried out in a qualitative descriptive method. Simultaneously, the economic assessment was done by using NPV (Net Present Value) to determine the feasibility of suren cultivation. The results showed that the local people used suren trees as land boundaries and shade. The plants’ stem were used for house walls, house frames, boats and ships, while the leaves were commonly used for fresh vegetables, medicines and natural insecticide. The NPV value obtained with an interest rate of 17.5% was 29,153,089 IDR/ha/cycle, which indicates that the cultivation of suren is feasible to develop.

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem provides many benefits for the environment and ecosystem services. Mangrove economically can be utilized to become any miscellaneous food and drink. One of the potential mangrove areas is Kampung Nipah, Sei Nagalawan Village, Perbaungan District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, North Sumatra. This study aims to identify the technical aspect of product processing and to analyze the financial feasibility and the added value distribution of mangrove processed products. Data collection used the sensus method and the open interview method with the leader and members of Kelompok Tani MuaraTanjung and data analyzed using the quantitative descriptive method. The result shows that the processing product is still manual and done cooperatively. The products obtained are Jeruju chips, Pedada syrup, and Dodol Api-Api. The business of mangrove processed products produces profit and worth by financial with a Revenue Cost Ratio (R/C) value of 1.6, 1.2, and 1.2, respectively. The Payback Period is 2, 5, and 4, respectively. Break Even Point (BEP) is 15, 13, and 14, respectively. And the BEP Analysis in Rupiah is Rp 5.045, Rp 10.098, and Rp 8.001. All the results show a profit. The added value for each product is Rp 52.871/kg, Rp 20.725/kg, and Rp 31.318/kg.

Abstract

This study was conducted to look at the types and spatial distribution of non-timber forest products (NTFPs). Data on NTFPs species, distribution, and parts used was obtained through species identification. Meanwhile, NTFP mapping activities use GIS. The results showed that there were 8 types of NTFPs used by the villagers, namely Arenga pinnata, Hevea brasiliensis, Durio zibethinus, Areca catechu, Theobroma cacao, Parkia speciosa, Lansium parasiticum, and Archidendron pauciflorum. They use it for daily consumption and sell it to collectors in the form of fresh fruit, palm sugar, leaves, roots, seeds, and sap. Abstract

. Deforestation activities in Indonesia are increasingly becoming a real concern. All of these actions resulted in the loss of 50% of the world's tropical forests, impacting the livelihoods of forest-dependent people. Changes in land cover are common in natural resource use areas. Land change is an important issue for planners and policymakers. One of them is the encroachment of the Holiday Resort Nature Park (HRNP) area of North Sumatra Province, which is a form of forest governance and weak law enforcement. Especially in this area, there are Sumatran elephants (Elephas maximus sumatranus), which are classified as critically endangered species. Analysis of land cover change can be used as material for formulating policies. By utilizing the Geographic Information System (GIS), it will be easier to analyze land cover and land use changes. The purpose of this study was to analyze land cover changes due to deforestation at HRNP. Spatial analysis of cover change using imagery and testing the accuracy of deforestation data, land cover satellite imagery, and verification in the field. The results showed that during the past 30 years, there has been deforestation from secondary dryland forest of 2079.3 ha to forest, namely swamp shrubs covering an area of 30.5 ha (1.5%) and non-forest covering an area of 2048.8 ha (98.6%). The highest deforestation rate occurred from 1996 to 2000 as much as 2027.3 ha (97.5%). The form of land cover due to deforestation is plantations 1990.8 ha (95.7%) and land cover forms 57.8 ha (2.8%). The conclusion shows that deforestation was triggered by weak law enforcement from the beginning until now, thus providing a more realistic opportunity for communities to encroach
