Abstract

In this research the dielectric constant of three types of Malaysian honey has been investigated using a non-destructive measurement technique. The objective of this research is to assess the dielectric constant of the three types of honey in Malaysia using a non-destructive measurement technique known as an open-ended coaxial probe in the frequency range from 100 MHz to 10 GHz frequency. Analysis on the effect water concentration in honey on the dielectric constant and the effect of temperature on dielectric constant of honey has been conducted. The three types of honey that have been chosen to be investigated in this project are stingless bee honey, wild honey and commercial (organic) honey and together their water adulterated samples. For this research, the probe had been set up by setting a range of frequency from 100 MHz to 10 GHz and needs to be calibrated with three calibration methods namely open, short and reference water. From the result it was found that the higher the temperature of the honey and the higher percentage of water content in the honey, the dielectric constant is increased. The dielectric constants of all honeys decreased with increasing frequency in the measured frequency range and increased with increase percentage of water content and temperature.

Abstract

This paper provides a review of orchestration distributed systems for IoT smart services in fog computing. The cloud infrastructure alone cannot handle the flow of information with the abundance of data, devices and interactions. Thus, fog computing becomes a new paradigm to overcome the problem. One of the first challenges was to build the orchestration systems to activate the clouds and to execute tasks throughout the whole system that has to be considered to the situation in the large scale of geographical distance, heterogeneity and low latency to support the limitation of cloud computing. Some problems exist for orchestration distributed in fog computing are to fulfil with high reliability and low-delay requirements in the IoT applications system and to form a larger computer network like a fog network, at different geographic sites. This paper reviewed approximately 68 articles on orchestration distributed system for fog computing. The result shows the orchestration distribute system and some of the evaluation criteria for fog computing that have been compared in terms of Borg, Kubernetes, Swarm, Mesos, Aurora, heterogeneity, QoS management, scalability, mobility, federation, and interoperability. The significance of this study is to support the researcher in developing orchestration distributed systems for IoT smart services in fog computing focus on IR4.0 national agenda

Abstract

With the rapid development of today’s communication technology, the need for a system capable to improve spectral efficiency, high data rates and at the same time can reduce inter-symbol interference (ISI) is necessary. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) meet all the requirements needed. However, the high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) has become its major obstacle. This paper is focusing on the development of Median Codeword Shift (MCS), which a new PAPR reduction technique with the capability to reduce the computational complexity of the system. This can be achieved through codeword structure alterization and bit position manipulation by utilizing the circulant shift process. The simulation results revealed that the proposed technique overwhelm conventional OFDM and SCS with 24% improvement and 0.5 dB gap from SCS. In fact, the proposed technique possess a lower computational complexity by reducing 16.67% of the use of IFFT block in the system in contrast with SCS technique.

Abstract

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) has become a preferable scheme for most high data rate wireless communication standards. However, the non-linear power amplifier effect experienced in the OFDM system has increases the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). This paper proposed a Median Codeword Shift (MCS) as a new solution to alleviate the effect of high PAPR. MCS takes advantage of the codeword structure and bit position changes through the manipulation of the codeword structure and permutation process to achieve a low PAPR value. Additionally, the enhanced version of MCS is also being proposed by merging MCS with the Discrete Hartley matrix transform (DHMT) precoding method to boost the PAPR reduction. Simulation results show that MCS is capable of minimizing PAPR of conventional OFDM with 24% improvement and at the same time outperform Selective Codeword Shift (SCS) with a 0.5 dB gap. A remarkable result was also achieved by MCS-DHMT with a 15.1% improvement without facing any bit error rate (BER) degradation.

Abstract

One of the key issues for those involved in farming and greenhouse is the use of pesticides. In a recent headline, there has been an epidemic of insect infestation that has destroyed 211 hectares of rice plants. These concerns have led to the discussion of possible over-use of pesticides that are not just killing dangerous pests, but also other animals that help combat the pest. In order to overcome the problem, a research was conducted by introducing a smart insect killer.  In this developing project, Pyroelectric (PIR) sensor will be using as a motion detector towards insects. This sensor plays a role to transmit the signal for action in taking care of the plant. The IR sensors will install around the plant, so that it has good range to detect any motion. As a result, suitable chemical spray will trigger to repel these insects. A light emitting diode as an indicator of functional to the system.  "Smart Insect Repeller" will work when certain pests are detected and this will reduce the use of poisons and the quality of the crop will be preserved due to the use of minimal poisons.

Abstract

This paper presents a design of 3D modeling of Multimode and Single Mode Fiber using SolidWorks. Fiber technology is essential that presents optical fiber is the fastest optical cable laid by Internet Service Providers in network communication. The current design of both fibers has less detail animation on technical specifications of light propagations and cladding. Thus, characterization difficulties occur between this two fiber optics cables. It also has less promotion in media publications such as 3D model design as guidance to users. This paper presents details on 3D modeling of multimode mode and single mode fiber specifications held in the industry market.  A 3D design with SolidWorks and comparison of both fiber characteristics are presented. Based on the 3D designed model, users are analyzed on their perspective and searching information which benefits telecommunication’s company. Technical calculations like core-cladding diameter ratio in microns are animated. The propagation of light in 3D single mode and multimode fiber is simulated using SolidWorks animator that presents it real fiber conditions. Result presents 10 most country searching used of both fiber cables and the difference in users search for both cables. A number of user’s search presents 3% more of multimode than single mode fiber search cases. This research is significant in presenting an animator of single and multimode fiber to users of network infrastructure development especially network developers and Telecommunications Company which can present it lively with animator transitions.

Abstract

This paper proposes an enhance version of the dual parameter based cost function algorithm for time-varying environments. For ideal channel condition, the proposed cost function algorithm adaptively change the transmission data rate according to traffic load condition. However, similar approach is not well-suited for time-varying environment. For time-varying condition, transmission of packet at lower transmission data rate is much preferred in order to achieve reliable transmission. In addition to that, packet transmission at lower data rate contributes to low energy consumption due to lower transmit power used to transmit packet. This paper presents a combination of cost function algorithm with adaptive rate/power. Adaptation of transmission data rate and transmit power for time varying condition are carried out based on received power values. An OPNET based simulation model was developed to analyses the performance of the propose algorithm. Simulation results show the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the energy efficiency of a WLAN while maintaining the network QoS in fading channel environments.

Abstract

Round-robin (RR) is a process approach to sharing resources that requires each user to get a turn using them in an agreed order in cloud computing. It is suited for time-sharing systems since it automatically reduces the problem of priority inversion, which are low-priority tasks delayed. The time quantum is limited, and only a one-time quantum process is allowed in round-robin scheduling. The objective of this research is to improve the functionality of the current RR method for scheduling actions in the cloud by lowering the average waiting, turnaround, and response time. CloudAnalyst tool was used to enhance the RR technique by changing the parameter value in optimizing the high accuracy and low cost. The result presents the achieved overall min and max response times are 36.69 and 650.30 ms for running 300 min RR. The cost for the virtual machines (VMs) is identified from $0.5 to $3. The longer the time used, the higher the cost of the data transfer. This research is significant in improving communication and the quality of relationships within groups.
