Abstract

ABSTRACT The activity was carried out to determine the health status of qurban animals and the worthiness of the qurban meat during eid al-Adha in Manokwari Regency through antemortem and postmortem examinations along with the application of health protocols during the Covid-19 pandemic. Six hundred fifty-six beef cattle were examined. The antemortem examination includes the observation of the general condition, eye mucosa, anus, and fecal matter. The liver and rumen were examined through direct observation (inspection) of the presence of worm parasites. Covid-19 health protocol observations were carried out on butchers, meat officers, and the facilities around the activity. The data were analyzed descriptively and presented in percentages and figures. The average Body Condition Score (BCS) of the cattle was 3 to 4. The locomotion and skin turgor was normal. In general, the examined meat was fit for consumption. The eye mucosa color in the examined cows was pink. The anus condition of all the cows examined is clean and the stool consistency is soft. A total of 106 livers (16.16%) had fasciolosis and 89 rumens (13.57%) were positively infested with Paramphistomum sp. Most of the slaughter places have implemented health protocols with body temperature checks, washing their hands when entering the slaughtering area and most of the workers have to wear a mask. Abstract

Stakeholders and their networks play prominent roles in developing the agricultural sector. For instance, the economic, social, and environmental indicators of farms are sustained by the involvement of stakeholders and other relevant parties. Therefore, exploring the importance and roles of actors has become strategic and vital to recognize. This research aims to determine the strategic stakeholders' typology and mapping using their network analyses on integrated crops-livestock farming systems in West New Guinea. The study was carried out in Manokwari using the focus group discussion on twenty various represented individuals, groups, and mass institutions. The queries discussed were based on background, resources delivery, inter-connectivity amongst actors, intervention, and innovation. The result showed that the stakeholders in mixed crop-livestock are dominated by individuals' that privately manage the farms officially in accordance with the laws. The result also showed that the farming systems in West New Guinea, experience real threats which need to be lowered to mitigate the turn-back effect. The top five shared resources are access, satisfaction, power, knowledge, and time allocation. These resources tend to stay longer to sustain the strong needs of the farms, which are dominated by positive similarity with varying ranges of correlation ranging from negative, neutral to positive. This is because the stakeholders are reluctant to deliver the intervention and innovation, therefore, those with low interest and power need to be promoted to high interest and power by using aids, guidance, and services from each actor in the mixed crop-livestock farms business.

Abstract

Gastrointestinal worm disease in cattle is scathing for the breeder’s as it lowers cattle’s productivity and inflict major economic loss. Furthermore, the interraction between cattle, man and the environment might bringout the risk of zoonotic diseases (diseases which can spread between man and animals). Kebar grass contains phytochemical elements such as alkaloid, saponin, tanin, glycoside and flavonoid. Those elements have the potentialas an alternate anthelmentic in the effort to utilize the endemic biodiversities of Papua. This research is performed at Faculty of Animal Husbandry Animal Health Laboratory and Faculty of Math and Natural Science MicrobiologyLaboratory of Universitas Papua, for 8 months. The leaves and the stems of the kebar grass were collected and stored at room temperature. The Kebar grass extract was divided into 3 parts, i.e. fresh extract, wind dried extractand sun dried extract. Fresh fecal samples were collected and examined with the native method. The samples where nematodes eggs are found is treated with kebar grass extract. As a comparison, positive control is made withoxfendazole and negative control is made nematodes larvae fertilization. Fecal cultures and grass extract mixture is left alone for 7 days in room temperature and examined under microscope with 400x fortification to see whetnerthere is any development of the nematodes’ eggs. The obstained data is analyzed by tabulation and descriptive method. The result is the samples mixed with kebar grass extract show no development of nematodes’ egg. As acomparison, the negative control which is observed with baerman method shows development of nematodes’ eggs. It can be concluded that the effect of kebar grass extract can deters nematodes’ egg development.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine the secure level of the n-hexane extract of kebar grass on hypercholesterolemia rats based the acute oral toxicity test. Based the literature, no report on the toxic dosage before, initial dose was started at 300 mg/kg body weight (BW) and to be increased 2000 to 5000 mg/kg BW. Toxicity data were set for 24 hours and continued until 14 days after treatment for several parameters, i.e : toxicity symptoms, death of animals, changes in body weight and the manifestation of toxicity effects. At the end of the test, the rats were sacrificed and organs were taken for abnormalities (macroscopy). The results of this study showed that the administration of the n-hexane extract of grass kebar at all doses did not show the toxicity symptoms, mortality and body weight change. The absolute and relative weights and gross pathology observation of the internal organ were normal. Conclusions: the n-hexane extract of grass kebar is safe and the LD was determined on category 5, 50 unclassified or minimum practically non toxic

Abstract

Kebar grass contains active compounds that can be used as herbal ingredients in the treatment of diseases. This study was conducted to test the anthelmintic activity of grass kebar against worms Ascaridia galli in vitro. This study uses Kebar grass juice and infusion with a concentration of 15%, 30%, 45%, and 60%, and 4 repetitions. Each level of the experiment is placed in each cup containing 25 ml of solution and 5 worms. Worm mortality is recorded every 2 hours. The results showed that the juice and infusion of kebar grass were concentrations of 15%, 30%, 45%, 60% capable of killing worms with a mean time on the juice of Kebar grass respectively 9.5; 8; 7.5; 7 hours, and the average time for Kebar grass infusion is 9.5; 8.5; 8; 7.5 hours. The immersion time is a good variable to explain the variable of worm death at each concentration of treatment. There is an anthelmintic effect on grass juice and infuse kebar grass against worms Ascaridia galli in vitro. The duration of soaking and the concentration of juice and infusion of Kebar grass in this study had a significant effect on the mortality of worms. It was concluded that the juice and grass infuse kebar(Biophytum Petersianum Klotzsch) have anthelmintic effect against worms Ascaridia galli in vitro. Concentration Kebar grass juice and infuse kebar is increasing, then the shorter the time it takes to kill the worms Ascaridia galli in vitro.
