Abstract

PM machines in which slot number and pole number combination differs by one have to be configured with asymmetric winding pattern in order to maximize it back-emf performance. However, this asymmetric winding configuration inherently results an unwanted Unabalanced Magnetic Force (UMF). Investigations of electromagnetic performance of fractional-slot asymmetric winding PM machines using 2-D Finite-Element Analysis are presented. The investigations are mainly driven by the effort of minimizing the UMF. By employing techniques such as non-uniform number of coil turns in every tooth and asymmetric design of stator tooth, the UMF are expected can be minimized. The investigations show that the radial component of UMF has greater effect than the tangential component on the UMF itself. In all proposed techniques, a slight reduction of machine torque performance is inevitable.

Abstract

Brushless DC (BLDC) motor is widely used for various applications such as transportation. BLDC motor has many advantages compared to brush motor such as more compact, high robustness and simplest construction. The maintenance of this motor also low compared to brush motor due to absent of the brush inside the motor. For electric bicycle application, the conventional motor has low electromagnetic torque because not properly designed. It faces low torque density as the motor in full load condition especially during climb uphill. In this research, an optimum magnetic energy is being determine by proper selection of permanent magnet size. In addition, this research also increases the input current in dynamic condition into the designed BLDC motor. Finite element method (FEM) is used to analyze other performance characteristic of improved motor such as back electromotive force (EMF), electromagnetic torque, flux linkage, and stator flux density. Parameter for improve the current motor are selected and varied based on the required specification. In conclusion, the research proposed the new motor specification that has highest electromagnetic torque of brushless DC motor. Finally, this research provides guidelines, suggestions and proposes a better improved structure in optimize the magnetic energy in BLDC motor.

Abstract

This paper present the performance of Fuzzy logic controller in maintain level of water in water tank system. The mathematical modelling was developed to get the initial idea of the system performance. Later, the prototype of water tank system were constructed and tested to get the real time results. The Takagi-Sugeno “on” and “off” interference technique method was implemented due to the control limitation of the pump motor that being used in the experimental setup. The fuzzy logic controller was realized by embedded the algorithm in microcontroller of the water tank system. The experimental results show acceptable level of water within the range of 18cm to 20.5cm and settling time 59 seconds with 20 cm set point.

Abstract

Lightning produces extremely high voltages that generated induce overvoltage which have a high tendency to effect the electrical apparatus especially renewable energy plant that directly expose to this source. This study was performed through experimental work by investigating the effect of induce overvoltage upon the photovoltaic system. The induce voltage was performed by using lightning impulse generator. It is found that the maximum voltage of the unwanted signal is proportional with the distant of the specimen. The closer distant between solar panel material and spark discharge, the more serious effect would occur due to the induced overvoltage.

Abstract

This paper analyzed three-level Cascaded H-bridge Multilevel Inverter (CHMLI) utilizing two modulation techniques namely Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM). The performance and the output of CHMLI in terms of Total Harmonic Distotion (THD) % and circuits complexity were compared. The simulations models were constructed using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The results showed the CHMLI produced the lowest THD contents and utilized fewer components. Moreover, the SVPWM produced less THD than SPWM.

Abstract

The recent advancement of renewable energy sources and specifically photovoltaic system has resulted in outdoor installations of large power stations. A photovoltaic system is exposed to extreme ambient conditions due to the lightning strike activity that generated induced overvoltage which have a high tendency to affect the electrical apparatus especially renewable energy plant that directly exposed to this source. This study is performed through experimental work by comparing the effect of induced overvoltage propagation upon between the twisted and non-twisted distribution line for photovoltaic system. The induced voltage is performed by using lightning impulse generator. It is found that the maximum voltage of the unwanted signal is proportional with the distant of the specimen. The closer distant between solar panel material and spark discharge, the more serious effect would occur due to the induced overvoltage.
