Abstract

Fire resistance, termite resistance, and high dimensional stability are among critical attributes of cement board composite as alternative material to replace solid wood products. This study aimed to evaluate characteristics of cement boards made from various age classes of bamboo (1-2 year old, 3-4 year old, and 5-6 year old) and nature of bamboo stem (used and fresh bamboo). Cement board was produced with target density of 0.9 g cm-3, and 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm in dimension and the results showed that cement board made from younger bamboo (1-2 year old) had better physical and mechanical characteristics than cement board made from the older bamboo. Most of physical and mechanical characteristics, except for modulus of rupture and dimensional stability, of cement board made from younger bamboo fulfill the Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) A 5417-2003. The results also showed that cement board made from used bamboo had similar characteristics with cement board made from fresh bamboo. Key words: Young bamboo, used bamboo, cement board

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the role of rice husk ash as pozzolanic material in reducing porosity of lightweight rice husk-conblock. Rice husk ash was obtained by burning rice husk conventionally in kiln drum and subsequently followed by burning in furnace of 1400 Barnsted Thermolyne Type at temperature 600 oC for 2 hours. Sample test preparation and procedure of porosity was adopted from ASTM C 140. Rice husk ash significantly reduced the porosity at all treatment combinations of rice husk ash percentage, but the lower porosity (31 %) obtained by using rice husk ash of 20 %. Abstract

This research aims to find out the effect of cement-saw dust ratio levels on the physical and mechanical properties of produced composites. The physical properties (density, water content, water absorption after the immersion of one hour and 24 hours, and thickness swelling after the immersion of one hour and 24 hours) and mechanical properties (MOE and MOR) were observed according to ISO standards. The results showed that the use of the cement to sawdust ratio of 3 : 1 in producing wood composite with the target density of 1200 kg/m3 resulted in the lowest water absorption and the highest MOE and MOR. The swelling value and MOR of the produced boards were not acceptable, but their water content, water absorption, and MOE parameters were acceptable according to ISO 8335 1997. Abstract

This research aimed to determine chemical and physical component of rice husk ash as supplementing cement material to manufacture cement composite products. Charcoal of rice husk ash obtained by burning rice husk conventionally in kiln drum and burned again in furnace 1400 Barnsted Thermolyne Type at temperature 600o C for 2 hours. Analysis of chemical and physical component refer to SNI 15-2049-2004. Major chemical compound of rice husk ash was 72.28 % of silica and 21.43 of LOI. Density of rice husk ash was 760 kg/m3. Abstract

This research aimed to assess the properties of main substances used to produce lightweight composite cement using rice husk as aggregate. Main substances used in this research consisted of Portland cement tipe I, lime, rice husk and rice husk ash. Portland cement tipe I, lime and rice husk obtained from local producers in Makassar, while rice husk ash obtained by burning rice husk conventionally in kiln drum and subsequently followed by burning in furnace of 1400 Barnsted Thermolyne Type at temperature 600 oC for 2 hours. Chemical Content of the substances analyzed by adopted the analysis procedure in SNI 15-2049-2004. Alkalinity of Portland cement tipe I, silica of rice husk ash and Na2O dan K2O was categorized as low, while rice husk was categorized as reactive substance. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi reaksi alkali silika (ASR) pada sekam padi. Pembuatan contoh uji Mortar Bar didasarkan pada ASTM C 1260 yang dikenal sebagai "Accelerated Mortar Bar Test". Sekam padi yang telah dibersihkan dan dikeringkan kemudian digiling dengan menggunakan blender selama 3 menit untuk menghasilkan partikel sekam padi lolos ayakan 10 mesh. Pembuatan Mortar Bar dilakukan dengan mencampur sekam padi, semen, dan kapur yang dicetak pada molder kubus ukuran 25 x 25 x 285 mm. Rasio komposisi campuran sekam padi : {(semen : kapur)} terdiri atas 6 komposisi campuran (A, B, C, D, E, dan F) dengan rasio 30 dan 40 % : {( 100 : 0), (72 : 25), (50 : 50)} berdasarkan berat semen + kapur. Persentase pertambahan panjang Mortar Bar diukur setelah contoh uji yang direndam pada larutan NaOH 1 N disimpan dalam tanur pada suhu 80o C selama 16 hari. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ASR contoh uji Mortar Bar pada semua komposisi campuran tergolong potensial merusak dan sekam padi tergolong agregat reaktif.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the role of rice husk ash as pozzolanic material in reducing water absorption of rice husk cement composite. Rice husk ash obtained by burning rice husk conventionally in kiln drum. Preparation of water absorption testing samples was conducted according to ASTM C 140, while ASTM C 90 used to evaluate the desired water absorption. Rice husk ash as of 40 % significantly reduced water absorption of the composite, but only rice husk ash of 20 % dan 30 % fulfilled the ASTM C 90 requirement. Addition of lime in the mixture increased the water absorption. Key words: pozzolamic, water absorption, rick husk, rice husk ash.

Abstract

Kendala dari kegiatan pengabdian yang telah dilakukan sebelumnya adalah cepatnya produk kerajinan yang dibuat terserang organisme perusak kayu. Sehingga, diperlukan suatu pengetahuan mengenai metode pengawetan kayu terhadap bahan baku kerajinan. Metode yang dipilih adalah metode sederhana yang sebenarnya sudah sering dilakukan oleh masyarakat desa. Metode pengawetan dengan menggunakan pengasapan dan perendaman. Metode pengasapan dilakukan dengan menggunakan drum dan oven, sedangkan metode perendaman dengan menggunakan serbuk kayu yang tergolong awet yaitu kayu jati dan kayu bayam. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah peserta memperoleh pengetahuan tambahan mengenai teknologi tepat guna dalam peningkatan ketahanan kayu terhadap serangan organisme perusak dan pengetahuan dalam mengenali dan mengidentifikasi sumberdaya hutan yang potensial digunakan sebagai bahan pengawet dan praktik langsung pengawetan bahan baku untuk produk kerajinan. Kata kunci: pengawetan kayu, bahan baku, kerajinan
