Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACTCafes have become one of the favourite places that suits the lifestyle of current millennials. In choosing one to visit, millennials tend to select based on these aspects: comfortable place, good service, affordable price, varied products, complete facilities, unique menus, friend’s recommendation, reflecting social status, and innovative products. Our team is determined to find out whether this lifestyle affect these aspects that play a huge role in a café’s architectural design. In this journal, the method we chose to gather data is using a questionnaire we shared with millenials whilst visiting these cafes to find out whether the architectural design of a cafe has an impact with the overall scores of the aspects. Based on our analysis, we can conclude that the design of a cafe plays a role in getting visits from customers, especially millennials. It can be observed by the way the cafes brand itself or the uniqueness it share. Comfort becomes the key in attracting customers and making them feel at ease in cafes.

Abstract

To fulfill the desire for social existence, even during the pandemic, people still visit shopping malls, one of which is Festival Citylink. This study aims to examine the representational space aspect of the places at Festival Citylink where shopping activities are a representation of social existence which in shopping mall theory is referred to as "efforts to convey affection". This research is qualitative-descriptive with data collection methods through 2-stages interviews, observation, photo documentation, and literature studies. The sample was selected using a non-random/purposive sampling method. Data collected were analyzed using Lefebvre's representational space aspect with a framework using Miller's Making Love in Supermarket theory. The results showed that love making occurred through shopping activities with the implementation of shopping type arranged, free shopping, discussion, and knowing each other, also through giving treats and savings. This love making is accommodated by srepresentational spaces, these are supermarkets, food courts, and department stores. The spaces are produced with various adjustments to signage, furniture, materials, lighting, layout, space proportions, thermal comfort, themes, and facilities.

Abstract

Seiring bertambahnya populasi perkotaan, timbul isu ketidakkesetaraan  kesempatan berpartisipasi dan mendapatkan keuntungan dari perkembangan kota, yang menyebabkan kota tersegregasi berdasarkan status sosial ekonom masyarakati. Fenomena ini mendorong Henri Lefebvre, mengungkapkan konsep “right to the city”, dimana seluruh masyarakat pada dasarnya berhak atas ruang kota. Bogota, adalah salah satu kota yang dianggap sukses memperjuangkan right to the city lewat gerakan “Bogota Change”.

Abstract

The creative class is a group of people who utilize their creative thinking as a way to solve problems by creating innovations. The development of the creative class in the urban regions of the world results in a term called the creative city. Inside a creative city, the activity of the creative class establishes the needs for spaces that can accommodate their activities. Bandung, one of a creative city in Indonesia, has a lot of creative spaces. This research aims to map the types of creative spaces in Bandung, including their relationship with their contexts. This is achieved through the study of three cases, Kompleks Gudang Selatan, Lo.Ka.Si Coffee & Spaces, and Bandung Creative Hub. The mapping of creative spaces is done using the quantitative and qualitative scoring systems through observation, user interviews, and management interviews. Study about contexts is done using interviews and literature studies. The result of this research shows that those 3 cases, as creative spaces, are dominated by presentation space. This is supported by factors in their firm aspects. Moreover, it is found that the creative industry in Bandung is currently still oriented at presentation activities

Abstract

Coffee culture has existed in Indonesia for ages and has a long history. Its existence is indicated by coffee shops in various regions and areas in Indonesia, e.g., in heritage buildings or areas. This research aims to analyze coffee culture in historical coffee shops and coffee shops built in heritage buildings, followed by finding the benefit and impact of heritage value on their coffee culture. This research was done on two coffee shops in Jakarta (Kopi Es Tak Kie and Starbucks Filateli) and another two in Bandung (Warung Kopi Purnama and Starbuck Asia Afrika). Observation, literature study, and in-depth interviews with visitors, employees, and employers were conducted to gather the required information and data. This research shows that heritage values increase the attractiveness and value of the coffee shops mentioned, even though their way of interpreting and upholding them is different. The family-owned coffee shops uphold their heritage values by highlighting the shops' history, while the chain coffee shops uphold theirs by taking advantage of the historical buildings or areas as the main component of their identities. DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/lw.v13i1.5088

Abstract

Mandate (credential) as mitigation culture on local community of Sindang Barang Local wisdom can be learned through discovery of physical elements of traditional villages, such as spatial layout, architectural objects, and daily activities. The organization prevailing in environment plays an important role in managing a contextual mitigation culture. The co-existence of authority (mandate) masters have the authority of value/cultural capital and to create symbolic elements, such as will or belief. Sindang Barang Cultural Village was taken as a case study to reveal the history and role of the mandate in the culture of disaster mitigation. This study aims to observe the role of the mandate and its impact in disaster mitigation. The role of the mandate is also examined to see the existence of efforts to preserve the values of local wisdom towards the times. This research uses descriptive-qualitative method by tracing the phenomena and artifacts in the field. The analysis carried out in two phases. The first phase is to create a mitigation concept table based on the existing program or artifacts. The second phase is to discuss the mitigation culture based on its classified capacities. The mitigation seen from the Sindang Barang Cultural Village program and artifacts is the risk of fire, earthquake, and landslide. The process of determining a mandate is commensurate with adaptive capacity because this stage tends to lead to restriction or orders about in program that is carried out systematically in particular context.

Abstract

This article is written based on research and community service (PPM) activities by University (PT) to encourage innovation in rural areas. University is an institution that is tasked with producing world-class knowledge, while still having a role to contribute to local problems in Indonesian society, including encouraging innovation in rural areas. The case of research and community service chosen was the revitalization and development of the Village Market in Majalengka, where local village heads, known as Kuwu, built networks to develop the village's resources to respond to economic growth in this area triggered by Kertajati International Airport. With a pro-innovation situation approach, PPM is designed at the same time to produce design work that is beneficial to society and scientific knowledge extraction. With the framework of the Actor-Network Theory (ANT), knowledge extraction is carried out by tracing the relationships that occur at each stage of PPM, to find out whether there is an expansion of the actor-network at the end of the activity. There are three important findings in the investigation of the perpetrator's network. First, there is a local ecosystem, namely the Kuwu forum, which can trigger various innovative ideas involving parties outside the village. Second, some mediators play a role in bridging the "university world" with the "village world". Third, expansion of the innovation network after activities occurs if they have internal factors, namely solidity of key innovators in the village, and external factors, namely networks owned by researchers that can be used by innovators in the village to develop existing potentials. For a pro-innovation situation to occur, a "design thinking" approach needs to be done in designing PPM activities as well as part of problem-solving and scientific knowledge production.

Abstract

According to Tri Dharma all universities in Indonesia have three essential roles comprising education, research, and community service. Every academic community is obliged to carry out and integrate these three roles. However, in reality, the development of science and technology through education and research is still often not integrated into the impactful implementation for community. As a member of academic community, an architecture student can contribute to bridge the gap between the development and the implementation of science and technology, for example by implementing architectural learning to design several social facilities using collective approach. Therefore, this research discussed the transformation of architectural learning into community service by taking a case study on the design of fishponds and Islamic boarding school in Banongan, Situbondo Regency. This qualitative research was conducted to reflect on the transformation process using the perspective of actor-network theory. The results showed that the synergy between architectural learning and community service could provide a learning space to advance pro-community architectural knowledge and produce pro-innovation social facilities for the welfare of community.
