Abstract

As coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases arose globally, active case finding by performing throat swab test proposed high risk for the healthcare workers. Saliva had recently been reported to show positive detection means for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and proposed advantages of self-collection, less requirement of transport media, and reduced nosocomial transmission risk. However, support evidence regarding its diagnostic value was still lacking and varied widely in specimen collection method. This systematic review aimed to assess the diagnostic value of salivary specimens (SS) for COVID-19 detection using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay compared with throat swab specimens (TSS), while putting into consideration confounders such as patients’ initial condition, specimen collection method, and transport media used. Six databases were used for identifying relevant studies. Final search yielded 19 eligible studies which was reviewed based on the major outcome: diagnostic agreement, sensitivity & specificity, and viral load comparison. The use of SS as an alternative to TSS showed to be promising although specimen collection method needed to be standardized. SS was comparable to TSS in detecting COVID-19 using RT-PCR assay, especially in symptomatic or confirmed cases. More Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were still needed to clearly demonstrate the ability of SS to capture asymptomatic cases in the setting of mass surveillance, where patients would self-collect the specimen at ease.

Abstract

Background: The patient safety incident reporting systems is designed to improve the health care by learning from mistakes to minimize the recurrence mistakes, however the reporting rate is low.Aims: Integrative literature review was chosen to identify and analyze the barriers of reporting patient safety incidents by Health Care Workers (HCWs) in hospital. Methods: Searching for articles in electronic database consisting of Medline, CINAHL and Scopus resulted in 11 relevant articles originating from 9 countries. Results: There are differences but similar in barriers to reporting patient safety incident among HCWs. The barriers that occur are the existence of shaming and blaming culture, lack of time to report, lack of knowledge of the reporting system, and lack of support from the management. Conclusion: Each hospital has different barriers in reporting incident and the interventions carried out must be in accordance with the existing barriers. Keywords: barrier of reporting, incident reporting, patient safety incident

Abstract

Abstract

Emergency CS response time guidelines by National Institute for Health Care Excellence (NICE) were difficult to implement in many countries and these constraints have led to poor neonate outcome in several previous study. This research aim to determine the affordability of emergency CS response time based on  NICE recommendation and its correlation to neonate outcome in lower-middle income countries and factors related to the response time. This scoping review data was extracted from several electronic data bases, which was accessed in February – March 2022, applying the PRISMA-ScR approach. Six eligible studies that meet inclusion criteria from 4,992 articles were obtained and analyzed. the average DDI achievement percentage was still lower than 20% in 5 studies, unless study from Gupta with DDI‘s achievement 42.4%. The response times recommended by NICE can‘t be met in many lower-middle-income countries with limited resources, factors related to delayed response times need to be corrected.
