The changing world needs literate citizens to live with creative society. This study aimed to compare science literacy of novice science teacher students from Thailand and Indonesia. Panel participants were 95 of Thai and 71 of Indonesian novice science teacher students who have been studying in the 1st and 2nd year of study in bachelor degree of science education programme. Data were collected by employed science literacy inventory; it was used for asking four components: content of science, context of science, science process, and scientific attitude based on local wisdom of Baduy’s society. Participants are freely considered in their perception. Results showed that Thai novice science teacher students had slightly better score than those Indonesian novice science teacher students, but statistical testing is not showed the differences. The future study is required to more investigation of how they promote science literacy in their school practicum.

Abstract This study aims to determine the effect of guided inquiry learning for students’ scientific literacy skills. The research was conducted at SMAN 24 Kabupaten Tangerang along January-June 2013. The method used was quasi-experimental, research subjects in this study were 77 students, divided into 2 groups: the experimental group and the control group. Research design in this study was the nonequivalent control group design. The instrument used was the science literacy test and observation sheet used. The research shows that students' science literacy for experimental group (mean = 54.49 and standard deviation = 18.67) was lower than the control group (mean = 57.63 and standard deviation of 14.37). After Mann-Whitney test (at the 95% significance level) α values obtained for 0.293 > 0.05. It can be concluded there is no significant difference between the average science literacy experimental group and control group students.  Keywords: Guided Inquiry, Science Literacy Skills, acid-bases concepts.

World is now rapidly changed by human activities that effect to environment and all of us. Process and product of science and technology transformed our knowledge and way of life to modern society. Local knowledge and scientific knowledge are related to means of co-learning space. Science education should play its importance roles and goals to use science and technology for sustainable development. The aim of this study was to compare Thai and Indonesian novice science teacher students in science attitude on environmental conservation based on local wisdom of Baduy’s society. The subjects were 95 of Thai and 71 of Indonesian novice science teacher students. They were asked indigenous knowledge for preserving natural resources and community practices. Attitude on environmental conservation is explored and explained through the scientific literacy test.  The results showed that mean score of Thai novice science teacher students had better than Indonesian movice science teacher students and significantly differences at .05 level of statistics. Need future studies which concern to improve science attitude and scientific literacy in the teacher education program.

Science education in the 21st century including biology learning at the level of Junior High School requires a more contextual implementation. Environmental learning topics such as green consumerism is a contextual topic in biology learning. Students must have high Pro-Environmental Behavior (PEB) to participate in protecting the environment. The purpose of this study was to measure the PEB of students at the 7th-grade level. The research method used descriptive with survey data collection techniques. The study was conducted in November-December 2018 at State Junior High School 1 South Tambun, West Java, Indonesia. A total sample of 135 students in 7th grade was selected by simple random sampling. The results showed there were six PEB indicators based on Green Consumerism that were Energy Conservation (86.37), Transportation (56.67), Waste Avoidance (53.04), Daily Consumption (64.44), Recycling (58.89), Social Behavior (60.54). Among the six indicators, only energy conservation was categorized as very high, while the others are categorized as moderate. This study concluded that PEB students must be improved by various models, methods, and media in biology learning. Keywords: Environmental learning, green consumerism, pro-environmental behavior
