Abstract

This cross-sectional study aimed to validate students' metacognition awareness inventory in Heat and Temperature material. A total of 167 public senior high school students in Yogyakarta, Indonesia were selected through convenience sampling technique. The heat and temperature metacognition awareness inventory (HeTMAI) inventory consists of six factors, namely: 1) Knowledge of cognition; 2) Planning; 3) Monitoring; 4) Evaluation; 5) Debugging; and 6) Information management. HeTMAI used a 5-point Likert scale. The data was analyzed using the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) method through the Maximum Likelihood approach. All statistics were found to meet acceptance values. The four GOF indices (χ2/df=2.36, CFI=0.97, TLI=0.97, and SRMR=0.06) have supported the fit of the six-factor HeTMAI model. Standardized factor loading (SFL), construct reliability (CR), average variance extracted (AVE) and discriminant values provide evidence that HeTMAI has sufficient convergent and discriminant validity. Cronbach's alpha value of 0.96 indicated HeTMAI has very adequate evidence of reliability.

Abstract

Remote learning has reformed the normal tradition of physics instruction in the existence of COVID-19 pandemic. The previous documentation of student’s misconception is mostly discovered in the normal condition of physics instruction. Regarding to the pandemic outbreak is necessary since distance learning routines have absolutely influence the physics education outcomes all over the world. To explore the issues, this quantitative study has descriptively identified students' misconception on projectile motion in the frame of graphic and figural representations. The six items of Busyairi and Zuhdi’s three tier test were administered to the 76 students in a Javanese public high school, Indonesia. Overall, the Arslan, Cigdemolu, & Moseley’s categorical framework classified that the whole participants still congregate in the misconception’s groups on projectile motion. The lack of students’ representation on projectile motion might be magnified by the pandemic restrictions in providing appropriate visualization on projectile concept. Finally, the author suggested that the alternative of online learning during the outbreak have not yet been effectively engaged to promote the physics representation on projectile motion.

Abstract

Cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L) is one of Indonesian most favorite chili called cabai rawit while Murai Batu (Copsychus malabaricus) is one of the Indonesian bird which has a distinctive sound. This bird is widely found in the territory of Indonesia, therefore, it is exciting to combine cayenne pepper and Murai Batu into a study. This study aims to determine the effect of Murai Batu's sound toward stomatal pores of the cayenne pepper leaves. Two months old cayenne was used in this study. The sound of Murai Batu was obtained by directly recording it using a recording device. The sound recorded was then inserted into the sound analyzer software. The recording of Murai Batu's sound was exposed to the cayenne pepper plant, particularly its leaves. The stomatal pores area of cayenne leaves were observed under a computer-connected microscope. The results of the study show that Murai Batu's sound affects the area of the stomatal pores. The benefit of this study is to provide information regarding the potential of the Murai Batu's sound to increase the photosynthesis process of cayenne leaves by looking at the sound effects of birds' chirping on the stomatal pores leaves the area.

Abstract

There is limited literature reporting on the use of the Rasch model in analyzing the conceptual understanding of student temperature in Indonesia. There are 58% of Physics Education undergraduate students experience misconceptions on the topic of temperature. Therefore, this study aims to analyze students’ conceptual understanding using a two-level diagnostic instrument. Students’ conceptual understanding was administered through a survey method using a two-level misconception diagnostic instrument. The survey was conducted on 26 students (31% boys and 69% girls) ages ranging from 16 years to 19 years at a public high school. Students’ conceptual understanding of the temperature material was administered using six diagnostic items and analyzed using the Wright map. Data collection has been done online using a Google form distributed through the class WhatsApp group. Data analysis has been carried out in two stages namely, coding students’ answers, and analyzing students’ conceptual understanding. The analysis results showed a shift in the level of conceptual understanding of 50% of students. So, the Wright map provides a visualization of shifts in the level of students’ conceptual understanding of the topic of temperature.

Abstract

This study aimed at determining the effect of the inquiry training learning model assisted by Google Classroom in improving students' creative thinking skills. This research was quasi-experimental. Total samples were 32 students of SMAN 1 Banguntapan. The instrument test was essay test to measure the creative thinking skills. The first step of study was the given the pretest, then face-to-face learning and online learning at the time agreed upon with students. The final stage was carried out posttest to see the achievement of score after treatment. The results showed that the gain scores of creative thinking skill in students are categorized into three, namely: 62% of students with low category gain scores, 31% of students with moderate category gain scores, and 7% of students with high category gain scores. The average score of gain of creative thinking ability was 0.3 which was in the medium category. Based on these results, further research is needed with an emphasis on optimizing the use of Google Classroom and confirming knowledge construction in face-to-face learning.

Abstract

The Pandemic COVID-19 has changed various aspects of human life today, especially in education. This requires all elements of education to adapt and continue the rest of the semester. The purpose of this study as a general review of learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research uses descriptive content analysis study method. The analysis was carried out on international, national articles and similar sources related to learning solutions during the pandemic. Online learning is an effective solution for activating classrooms even though schools have closed because time and place are at risk during this pandemic. However, this learning technique is important to be evaluated according to local conditions given the distribution of facilities and the ability of parents to provide different online learning facilities to students in Indonesia.

Abstract

The spread of COVID-19 makes learning at every level of the education unit conducted from home online or distance learning. However, this is not an easy thing for teachers to do. Teachers are required to innovate in delivering materials so that students can easily understand and learn actively. Indonesia is an agricultural country where most of the population has a livelihood as farmers. As a form of contextual learning and alternative distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, teachers can take advantage of rice farming activities in Indonesia, known as rice Tandur (reverse planting), as physical science teaching materials. Therefore, this research aims to explore the concept of physical science contained in rice Tandur activities to be used for physical science learning. This research is descriptive research to describe the idea of physical science in rice planting activities. Data collection was conducted by documentation of rice planting activities as well as literature studies. After the documentation is collected, the analysis uses Kinovea software to find out the center of gravity (COG) and the corners formed by the limbs. Based on the results of analysis and literature studies, the concept of physics was obtained in the form of a third-class lever arm that can be used for science materials in high school classes. In addition, there is a center of gravity and torque concept in the torso's movement, which can be used as a material for learning physics in high school.
