Abstract

As one of the 21st-century skills, critical thinking (CT) is required for working in an interdisciplinary setting. Educators are expected to provide learning activities that enhance students’ CT skills. Biology, particularly Cell Biology, is seen as challenging since the topics covered therein relate to those covered in the following semester. This research was conducted out as a preliminary study to improve the quality of the learning process, especially in the Cell Biology course. It aimed to identify students’ CT skills in mastering concepts about Cell Membranes. This study enlisted the participation of 105 students from two universities. This research used an instrument test essay using the rubric CT skills. The findings revealed that undergraduate students’ CT skills were classified as basic in mastering the concept of Cell Membrane.

Abstract

Character is a crucial aspect of living in society. Character building has been carried out in Indonesia from hundred years ago. The people have improved their way of life by adopting local culture's educational values, such as the Makassar-Buginese Siri’. However, in this era, there is a deterioration of student character as a result of losing Siri' cultural ideals that are rarely found in the field of education. The study aimed to explore the Makassar-Buginese Siri’ educational values as the foundation of character building. This study was designed as a qualitative study using the ethno-pedagogy approach. The data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation and analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results have revealed that the Makassar-Buginese Siri’ contains the following educational values: teppe (faith), pesse (compassion), lempuk (honesty, straightening deeds, and intentions), sipakatau (humanizing human), sipakalebbi (glorification of human), sipakainge (reminding each other), sipatokkong (mutual help and mutual support), tongeng (sincerity), reso (hard work), and abbulosibatang (collaboration). In conclusion, the Makassar-Buginese Siri’ educational values play a crucial role in character education to be integrated into the learning process to improve student character.

Abstract

Matakuliah Pencemaran Lingkungan di Jurusan Biologi FMIPA UM mendorong mahasiswa mampu mengkaji masalah toksikologi. Perkembangan pesat teknologi informasi memudahkan untuk mengakses informasi lebih mudah dan lebih cepat dengan bantuan internet. Pembuatan sebuah website dipermudah dan dapat dilakukan oleh siapapun dengan menggunakan aplikasi Content Management System (CMS) Wordpress. Penelitian ini bertujuan menghasilkan bahan ajar website matakuliah Pencemaran Lingkungan berbasis Wordpress. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan (developmental) bahan ajar dalam bentuk website untuk menunjang proses pembelajaran matakuliah Pencemaran Lingkungan di Jurusan Biologi FMIPA Universitas Negeri Malang. Produk bahan ajar website matakuliah Pencemaran Lingkungan yang dikembangkan telah mendapat penilaian Cukup Baik dan Baik, sehingga layak untuk digunakan

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus type 2 (DMT2) is caused by the ineffective use of insulin by the body. DMT2 with hyperglycemia causes circulatory system disorders, such as intracellular ion imbalance that causing changes in cell size and cell membrane fragility. Soybean black tempe and purple sweet potato have a potential therapy for patients with DMT2. This study aims to determine the blood osmotic tolerance of rat model DMT2 treated by the mixture of black soybean tempe extract and purple sweet potato. Osmotic tolerance is indicated by the level of erythrocyte membranes damage, i.e. crenation and hemolysis. The results showed that chemical compounds such as glibenclamide works better to lowers damaging of the cell membrane as compared to treatment of a mixture of natural compounds soybean black tempe and purple sweet potato.

Abstract

Animal feed can be obtained through the use of waste as a component of feed ingredients to meet nutritional needs, which is by using soybean meal in feed ingredients. The study aims to determine the effect of adding soybean meal to feed on rabbit weight gain as well as the composition of feed which is effective and efficient. The experimental research was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design with four treatments namely, control (P0) in the form of Pap Milk (SP), 8% soybean meal (P1), 10% soybean meal (P2), and 12% soybean meal (P3) with four replications. Data analysis using One Way Anova with Post Hoc Duncan Test. The results showed the differences in weight gain of rabbits in the four treatments of adding soybean meal to the feed. The result of statistical analysis of rabbit weight gain at the control treatment (P0), soybean meal 8% (P1), and soybean meal 10% (P2) were not significantly different. The treatment of 12% soybean meal (P3) showed the lowest weight gain. The treatment of 10% soybean meal (P2) showed the highest weight gain of rabbits with the lowest feed conversion value. So that the treatment of 10% soybean meal (P2) is an effective and efficient feed formula to increase the weight of rabbits. Keywords: Soybean Meal, rabbit, rabbit weight gain ABSTRAK Pakan ternak didapatkan melalui pemanfaatan limbah sebagai komponen bahan pakan untuk memenuhi nutrisi yang dibutuhkan, salah satunya dengan memanfaatan bungkil kedelai sebagai bahan pakan. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek penambahan bungkil kedelai pada pakan terhadap pertambahan berat kelinci serta formula pakan yang efektif dan efisien. Penelitian eksperimental disusun secara Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan empat perlakuan yaitu, kontrol (P0) berupa Susu Pap (SP), bungkil kedelai 8% (P1), bungkil kedelai 10% (P2) dan bungkil kedelai 12% (P3) dengan empat ulangan. Data dianalisis menggunakan One Way Anova dengan Uji Lanjut Post Hoc. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan pertambahan berat kelinci pada empat perlakuan penambahan bungkil kedelai pada pakan. Hasil analisis statistik pertambahan berat kelinci pada perlakuan kontrol (P0), bungkil kedelai 8% (P1), dan bungkil kedelai 10% (P2) tidak berbeda nyata. Perlakuan P3 menunjukkan pertambahan berat kelinci terendah. Perlakuan bungkil kedelai 10% (P2) menunjukkan pertambahan berat kelinci tertinggi dengan nilai konversi pakan terendah. Sehingga perlakuan bungkil kedelai 10% (P2) merupakan formula pakan yang efektif dan efisien untuk menaikkan berat kelinci. Kata kunci: Bungkil kedelai, kelinci, pertambahan berat kelinci

Abstract

Swamp buffalo is the most high-value animal in North Toraja Regency culture, in addition to being a work animal and transaction tools are also used as offerings in the ceremony signs solo' and signs tuka' North Toraja society. The purpose of this study was to describe the variation of the District Rantepao buffalo genotypes and North Toraja Regency Tikala using microsatellite developed as a multimedia course Analysis Techniques for Molecular Biology at the State University of Malang.Stages in this study include descriptive exploratory research phase and the development phase of multimedia for learning media. Observations of genetic variation patterns do start stage followed by DNA isolation using agarose gel electrophoresis was performed after PCR using HEL 09 and INRA 032 was followed by gel electrophoresis polyacrilamid. Electrophoresis obtained from the gel bands were then analyzed using the results of research genepop.Analysis of interactive multimedia development using media expert validation of a questionnaire shows the effectiveness of 91.67%, 87.50% the attractiveness, interactivity efficiency 100% and 91.67% with qualifying very well. For validation of learning materials experts show presentation purposes 95%, 89.29% material, the effectiveness of 83.33 and 93.75% interactivity with excellent qualifications. Analysis of a small group test with a sample of 12 people was 80.60% with good qualifications. Interactive media that had been developed can be used by lecturers and students biology education courses to better understand the basic principles and appropriate procedures in the course of TABM. Keywords: buffalo, interactive multimedia, genetic variation

Abstract

The caudal fin of Zebra fish as a model for studies regeneration both in terms of process and study of molecular analysis. This research is a descriptive exploratory. A sample of zebra fish (Danio rerio) 4-6 months of age as much as 30 individuals. The regeneration caudal fin of zebrafish observed by microscope with cutting vertically. The parameters observed were: 1) the time required for the regeneration process, 2) The regeneration process in details covering and, 3) Type of regeneration. Data in the form of the regeneration process ranging from wound healing to the original length obtained are collected in the form of digital photos. The results showed that the time required to regenerate the caudal fin to recover to normal at a temperature of 22-31° C was 22.25 ± 1.63 days for a model of vertical cuts. The regeneration process begins with the events of wound healing (H1) followed by the formation of blastema and will radius (H2) and continued differentiation characterized by the process of angiogenesis (H2). Regenerative development begins with the formation of the fingers and the growth of the peripheral areas tail fins faster than the medial region (H3-H8). End process regeneration in caudal fin of zebrafish are included in the development is the formation of regenerative segment radius starting from the proximal to the distal portion regenerat regenerat (H9 - ± H21). From the results of this research note that caudal fin of zebrafish to regenerate in epimorphosis.

Abstract

Gatul fish in included in the family Poecilidae which is a small fresh water, male is smaller and more colorfull than female. This fish is easy to be taken care in laboratory and has a short reproduction cycle, thus allowing these fish to be one animal model development in the field of biology. Yet, in Indonesia the biological study upon Gatul fish is very limited. The aim of this study is to understand the process of caudal fin regeneration of Gatul fish are malformation (abnormal growth). Caudal fin of Gatul fish were vertically cut in a half of its length. Observation was done using 400x magnification. Picture with taken by camera with digital zooming. The subject of this study with a body length of 2-3 cm. The result shows that regeneration of Gatul caudal fin is started with wound healing in day-1 (D1= 24 hours after amputation) and blastema formation, then stump regeneration begin to grow in D2. Regenerative outgrowth begin in D3 characterized by the formation Blood island and fin rays. Differentiation begin in D6 and extended up to D18. From this research we can conclude that the process is going step by step through wound healing, stump growth, and tissue differentiation, and respectively

Abstract

Keterampilan memecahkan masalah merupakan kecakapan yang memuat beberapa indikator diantaranya: a) defining the problem, b) developing a plan to solve the problem, c) collecting and analyzing information, dan d) interpreting findings and solving the problems. Penerapan model problem solving dengan sintaksnya yang terdiri dari kegiatan mendefinisikan masalah, mendiagnosa masalah, merumuskan alternatif, dan menerapkan strategi pemecahan masalah diharapkan mempu memfasilitasi keterampilan memecahkan masalah pada peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan keterampilan memecahkan masalah pada mahasiswa setelah diterapkan model problem solving. Subjek dalam penelitian ini yaitu mahasiswa angkatan 2016 Off B Jurusan Biologi UM yang menempuh mata kuliah fisiologi hewan dan berjumlah 32 orang. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) berbasis lesson study dengan 2 siklus. Masing-masing siklus terdiri dari 4 tahap yaitu, perencanaan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Instrumen penelitian berupa lembar observasi dan tes. Tes siklus I dan siklus II berbentuk soal essay sebanyak 4 soal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada indikator defining the problem dan developing a plan to solve the problem mengalami penurunan dari siklus I ke II, sedangkan indikator collecting and analyzing information dan interpreting findings and solving the problems mengalami peningkatan. Kata kunci: model problem solving, keterampilan memecahkan masalah, PTK berbasis lesson study.

Abstract

Learning aimed to help students undergo the learning process so that effective learning behavior was realized. Effective learning was learning that can produced useful learning and student centered learning. In reality, students in class were still passive, have not been able to expressed their opinion, and were less active in constructing their own knowledge. This showed that learning objectives have not been achieved according to the sixth level of KKNI’s standard. Therefore, this study was conducted using a learning cycle 7E learning model based on lesson study to improve student’s critical thinking skills. The result showed that there had been an increase in student’s critical thinking skills during learning with four lesson study. The improvement of critical thinking skills on the interpretation indicator was 0.03%, inference was 0.03%, analysis was 0.06%, evaluation was 0.28%, explanations were 0.66%, and self-regulation was 0.91%.
