Abstract

Scientific literacy is the ability which must be owned by the students to analyze and apply the concept of science in solving daily life problem. This research aims to know the correlation between scientific literacy and science learning achievement at State Junior High Schools. This research used a quantitative approach with correlational type. The population of this research were 428 grade IX students at State Junior High Schools within the District of Jaluko Muaro Jambi. The samples was 138 students. The technique of selecting samples was random sampling. The instruments used were the test of science literacy and the test of science learning achievement. Hypothesis test was conducted by using rank spearman correlation test with the assistance of SPSS 21. The results show the average score of scientific literacy is 33.7 (medium category) and the average score of science learning achievement is 21.5 (very low category). The result of the correlation test obtains Sig value 0.00 then Ho is rejected. It can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between scientific literacy and science learning achievement at State Junior High School within Muaro Jambi District. Science learning is expected to develop students’ science literacy so that it can improve science learning achievement.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to determine the differences in science process skills in each class in the Physics Education Study Program. Methodology: This research is a quantitative study with a comparison design. The research sample used amounted to 108 students with details of 54 control class students who used conventional guidebooks, while the control class totaling 54 students used a science process skill guide. The research data was obtained from observation activities using observation sheets of science process skills which were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Finding: The results showed that there were significant differences in the mastery of science process skills of students seen from the value of the average mastery of science process skills of students using guidebooks based on science process skills. The experimental class has an average science process skill that is better than the control class.

Abstract

One of the most important and potential problems encountered in an official online letter management application is the recipients' late response. This action research aims to improve the recipients' response time and determine the central core of shyness according to response time categories: less than 24 hours (green zone); between 24 hours to 48 hours (orange zone); and more than 48 hours (red zone) in managing formal online letter management system at Jambi University. Using the social representation theory of shyness as the basis of action adopted from Moscovici theory [1], it is hypothesized that response time displaying will impact response time improvement. A survey questionnaire distributed to 129 respondents showed a significant improvement in the participants' response time, respectively, in cycles 1 and 2. The zone group increased percentage sed from 22.44% to 52.49 % in the first cycle, and it ultimately raised to 62.38% at the end of the second cycle. Such an increase might be due to the users' efforts to avoid the level of shyness, which were classified into: (1) slow to respond and (2) personal or work unit late response time – both marked in red. It is recommended that social shyness incorporated in improving response time in a formal online letter can be further implemented with other social and psychological parameters. The application will illustrate computer systems' interaction on social society to implement regulations both in institutions and in government.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a virtual laboratory (Vir-lab) based guided inquiry on viscosity experiments and know the students' perceptions of the products developed. This study was a research and development using 4D model that consists of four stage: define, design, develop, disseminate. The participants were two material experts, two media experts, and 43 students. Data collection used expert assessment sheet and student response questionnaire. The data were analyzed descriptively. The result of this study was a Vir-lab which was packaged in e-book form with 3D effects. The activities in the Vir-lab are designed based on the syntax of guided inquiry. The Vir-lab contains goals, problem formulations, theories, hypotheses, tutorial videos, virtual experiments, experimental data, data analysis, results, and conclusions. The results of the material expert obtained a score of 45 with a very good category and media experts obtained a score of 66 with a very good category, and the results of the students' perception test obtained a score of 60.65 with a very good category. The conclusion of this study shows that the Vir-lab is valid and suitable for use as a medium for learning physics.

Abstract

Kata kunci—Pelacakan, Ekstraksi ciri, Pengenalan isyarat tangan  AbstractSign language is a language that uses hand gestures and lip movements to explain the meaning. For that there needs to be created a system that can connect the disabled with normal human hearing impairment. The study of sign language recognition applications in real-time experience any problems, the factors that affect, among others, high level of similarity of training image data, the process of tracking, especially on the segmentation of objects with the background so the results do not capture the maximum interpretation. This research uses the tracking method the skin color segmentation and center of gravity (COG) managed to track the hand movements of each frame, as well as edge detection method and the PCA as feature extraction, and familiarity with using artificial neural network approach to back propagation. The results of testing this system can recognize 26 letters of recognition cues with recognition accuracy 83.43%. In a variety of lighting conditions and object distance to the camera, the system is experiencing changes in the level of recognition so that the required distance of an ideal and a good level of lighting. This application is the need for further development especially in the process of tracking and identification. Keywords— Tracking, Feature extraction, Hand gesture recognition
