Abstract

Using the qualitative method, the critical paradigm, and also Roland Barthes semiotic analysis, this study aims to find out the symbols contained in Sunsilk Co-creations print advertising, the meaning contained in the symbols and how the symbols subordinate the Eastern people. The results of this study indicate that there are seven symbols in Sunsilk Co-creations version print advertising that has unity meaning, i.e there are dominant people who are showed as more superior thus there are other people who are considered inferior. With the myth that the West is better seen as the superior and the East is seen as the inferior, then the symbols and meanings in Sunsilk Co-creations print advertising represent orientalism. The researchers suggest to pay attention to the symbols that will be aired so as not to be negative because it can affect the reputation of the company/institution concerned. Besides that, it is expected to the Eastern people especially Indonesian to be able to change their thought to be more proud and show their confidence.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peristiwa komunikasi, komunikasi simbolik, dan kekhasan dari komunikasi simbolik yang terjadi dalam peristiwa komunikasi antara “teman-teman Tuli” dalam grup WhatsApp “Sunyi” dengan menggunakan metode etnografi virtual. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peristiwa komunikasi yang terjadi dapat dikategorikan sebagai peristiwa komunikasi formal dan peristiwa komunikasi informal. Komunikasi simbolik yang terjadi meliputi : penggunaan teks yang merupakan transfer Bahasa Isyarat Indonesia (BISINDO), penggunaan foto dan video untuk berbagai tujuan, dan penggunaan emoji smiley, emoji gestur tangan, dan emoji hati yang dominan. Komunikasi simbolik yang khas dalam peristiwa komunikasi adalah emoji untuk lambai tangan dan emoji “jangan” sebagai topik humor.

Abstract

The school library is not yet a favorite place for elementary school students. Many  factors have contributed to this, among other the types of books available, unreliable library time, non-permanent librarians, even the scorn of friends who think of reading in the library as behavior that pretending to diligent. Many factors have contributed to this, such as the types of books available, unreliable library time, non-permanent librarians, even the scorn of friends who think of reading in the library as pretending to be diligent and smart, which cause students to be reluctant to regularly visit the library. Hence, classroom teachers need to reaffirm the library functions and persuade students to visit and utilize facilities in the library. This article presents the evaluation results of students attitude after receiving information about the library described by the classroom teacher. The method used in this study was descriptive study, with fourth-grade students of an elementary primary school as the object, data collection techniques used questionnaires, and data analysis used a single tabulation based on quantitative data. The results showed that students had a better attitude toward school libraries, from the cognitive aspects were such as knowledge, trust, and assessment, and the affective as well as conative aspects. Therefore, it is expected that schools through the classroom teacher can intensively spread information about the function of school libraries, and improve library facilities and services to the students, so they are accustomed to using the library as a first step in forming the love-literacy generation.

Abstract

The study is titled implementation of environmental communication based on the social institution in coping with the flood in the Citarum Watershed Upstream. Citarum river pollution and silting are currently in a state of particular caused by forest encroachment in the upstream, land use, household waste, animal husbandry, industry, offices, etc, so when the rainy season caused the occurrence of floods. In addition, these conditions have resulted in water quality being unfit to be utilized, both for drinking water, washing, bathing, irrigation for agriculture and so on. The actuator environment seeks to restore the Citarum Watershed upstream conditions by building public awareness so they may want to change their attitudes and behavior, one of them by not disposing of waste into the river. The selected communities are those that are incorporated in a social institution in the region. The purpose of the research is to find out about the types of institution, the reason for utilizing the institution, and the role of the environment actuator communication in a social institution. The methods used in this research is descriptive with qualitative data to describe the various realities of communication activities related to the environment by leveraging social institution in coping with the disaster of the flood in the area of Citarum Watershed Upstream. Research results showed in the region there are four types of institutions, namely the institution of religious, economic, agricultural and social. Institution related to religious activity is Majlis Ta'lim (the place of informal Islamic teaching and education), institution related to the activity of the economy is an arisan (regular social gathering), institution related to social activity is the PKK (Family Welfare Guidance), and institution related to the agricultural activity is The Association of Farmers Group (Gapoktan). The reason for the environment actuator utilizing social institution are as the entrance (access) to carry out flood mitigation program, already familiar, easy to invited to cooperate and to expand the network. The role of the environment actuator in the institution as a communicator and facilitator in conducting dissemination of information and training of waste utilization to the members of the institutions.

Abstract

Abstract Public service is one of the activities that must be carried out by the institution properly. Every institution, including schools, has internal and external publics that need to be served. One of the external publics for SLBN A in Bandung City is the academic public who conducts research, service, and teaching practice for SLB teacher candidates. The intensity of academic public visits is quite high, so excellent public service communication is needed. The purpose of this study was to determine the communication model of academic public service in SLB Negeri A Bandung City. The method used is exploratory case study, with a single case. Data collected by interview, observation and literacy tracking. The informants were chosen purposively consisting of management at the school, teachers, students, parents of students, alumni, and also the academic public itself. The results show that: communicators or parties providing services to the academic public are Administrative, Public Relations, School Principals, RD Coordinators and Teachers. The message conveyed is about the communication procedures in academic public services which have seven stages. The media used are face-to-face communication (formal and informal) and media communication (Whatsapp, Telephone, Correspondence and Disposition). The communicant is an academic public including students, lecturers, researchers and observers who carry out the PPL / PPG / PKL program, final research (thesis, thesis and dissertation), non-final research (grants and projects). Academic public feedback is carried out by providing research reports to SLBN A Bandung. Abstract

The objectives of this dissertation entitled Disabilities and Achievement through the Communication Experiences of Disabled Athletes were to understand the meaning of disabilities, the status as excelled athletes, and the communication experience from the perspective of those excelled disabled athletes. The interpretation also derived from the meaning construction process which involved the interaction between those athletes and the surrounding neighborhood.             This research used qualitative approach with the constructivism paradigm and phenomenological form of study. The subjects were excelled athletes with disabilities which were purposively selected. Data were collected through in depth interviews, participative observations, and literature studies.            The results of this research revealed that the interpretation about disabilities which was acquired by excelled disabled athletes was developed by their awareness, emotions and treatments they received. These factors were then constructed as a set of experience. The set led them to find their own terms which became their particular preferences. Meanwhile, the meaning of their status as excelled athletes was developed through some motives, efforts, follow up actions and interactions with some people who were regarded to have significant roles in their achievement, and also treatments they received after they became so-called excelled athletes with disabilities.            Excelled athletes with disabilities interpreted their unique condition from the perspective of terminology, characteristics, effects, advantages, and positive consequences they have from the disabilities. The status itself was regarded as a social identity which distinguished them from the other disabled people. It brought them became individuals who gained more respects and regarded as people with a better quality of life which could be taken as significant raw models. Furthermore, the communication experiences between the athletes and their neighborhood were influenced by their positive and negative experience while communicating each other, and were also resulted from the interactions with relatives, institutions, and people within the society where they mostly live.

Abstract

Perkembangan media sosial yang semakin pesat dan bertambahnya pengguna yang semakin banyak menjadikan media sosial menjadi salah satu sumber rujukan informasi oleh sebagian banyak masyarakat. Media sosial telah menciptakan sebuah pola baru dalam berkomunikasi dan berpartisipasi sosial, hal ini dapat dilihat dari banyaknya keterlibatan para pengguna dalam sebuah forum komunikasi atau platform media sosial. Saat ini banyak lembaga pemerintah, swasta dan organisasi masyarakat yang memanfaatkan media sosial menjadi salah satu media informasi untuk menjangkau masyarakat. BPBD (Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah) Pangandaran memanfaatkan media sosial melalui akun instagram @pudalopspangandaran untuk memberitakan informasi mengenai kebencanaan, dan kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh BPBD Kabupaten Pangandaran untuk meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat mengenai kebencanaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan data kualitatif. Analisis yang digunakan dalam meneliti penggunaan Instagram oleh BPBD Kab. Pangandaran adalah konsep The Circular Model of Some dari Regina Luttrell yang terdiri dari membagikan (Share), mengoptimalkan (Optimize), mengelola (Manage), dan melibatkan (Engage). Tingginya potensi bencana di Pangandaran menjadi salah satu latar belakang perlunya meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat akan kebencanaan. BPBD Kabupaten Pangandaran memanfaatkan instagram melalui akun @pusdalopspangandaran sebagai media informasi mengenai kebencanaan kepada masyarakat luas. Pengelolaan media sosial yang dilakukan oleh BPBD sudah cukup efektif menjangkau masyarakat khususnya masyarakat pangandaran, namun terkendala dengan kurangnya sumber daya manusia yang dapat mengelola media sosial agar tetap update.

Abstract

ABSTRAKBank Indonesia merupakan lembaga independen yang mewajibkan untuk mensosialisasikan ciri keaslian uang rupiah atau sosialisasi CIKUR “Ciri-ciri Keaslian Uang Rupiah”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui fase dari model of small group socialization di Bank Indonesia KPw Jawa Barat. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif dengan data kualitatif. Pengumpulan datapenelitian dilakukan dengan cara observasi, wawancara dan studi literatur. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa Asisten Manajer I Bank Indonesia KPw Jawa Barat yang berperan sebagai pengawas serta pelaksana sosialisasi CIKUR mulai dari fase pendahuluan, fase antisipasi, fase pertemuan, fase asimilasi, dan fase keluar. Pada fase pendahuluan, fase asimilasi, dan fase keluar, analisis demografi, identifikasi kelompok, evaluasi dan apresiasi yang dilakukan belum optimal. Dari hasil penelitian ini, saran yang diberikan adalah lembaga sebaiknya melakukan analisis demografi secara spesifik yaitu usia, ras dan gender, identifikasi kelompok evaluasi dan apresiasi agar tujuan utama sosialisasi dapat tercapai.

Abstract

Perkembangan batik di Indonesia menunjukan peningkatan yang positif, imbasnya pada peningkatan pertumbuhan ekonomi yang mampu menyumbang devisa negara melalui ekspor. Saat ini trend masyarakat kembali pada batik lokal yang memiliki muatan lokal salah satunya adalah Batik Kasumedangan. Batik Kasumedangan bisa menjadi media informasi yang berisi rekam jejak visual budaya lokal daerah Sumedang bagi generasi muda dan kelompok masyarakat luar Sumedang mengenai nilai-nilai luhur dalam budaya Sumedang,   sehingga dapat menjembatani pewarisan nilai-nilai luhur budaya kepada generasi muda sekaligus sebagai pelestarian budaya itu sendiri. Sebagai salah satu produk budaya, batik Sumedang diharapkan dapat menjadi salah satu identitas lokal masyarakat Sumedang. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif dengan pencarian data menggunakan wawancara mendalam dan observasi. Saat ini industri batik di daerah Sumedang sudah mulai menunjukkan keaktifan dalam mempromosikan batik khas daerah lokal dalam hal ini adalah Sanggar Batik Umimay. Promosi yang dilakukan meliputi pameran, simposium batik, dan membuka stand di mal. Namun jika dilihat dari hasil penjualan, strategi tersebut belum optimal. Maka Sanggar Batik Umimay lebih menyukai promosi batik dengan menggunakan word of mouth promotion yang di rasa lebih murah dalam segi biaya dan lebih berdampak dalam segi penjualan.Para pembeli batik tulis yang notabene harganya lebih mahal dibandingkan batik printing memiliki pengelaman langsung memakai batik sebagai fashion kemudian membagikan informasi mengenai pengalamannya ke jaringan sosial seperti keluarga, teman dan lingkungan pekerjaan.

Abstract

Di Indonesia, jumlah beauty vlogger terus mengalami peningkatan yang pesat semenjak 2015. Bahkan, sebagian besar dari mereka menjadikan kegiatan beauty vlogging sebagai pekerjaan tetap. Kemunculan dan perkembangan profesi ini juga menjadi sebuah bukti dari perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui makna yang terbentuk dalam diri para pegiat beauty vlogger yang diarahkan melalui teori fenomenologi Schutz. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis studi fenomenologi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan studi kepustakaan. Sementara teknik validitas data menggunakan triangulasi sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa beauty vlogger memaknai profesi mereka menjadi tiga makna, yaitu upaya aktualisasi diri, sebagai mata pencaharian, dan sebagai panutan.Kata Kunci: Makna, profesi, beauty vlogger, pengalaman komunikasi In Indonesia, the number of beauty vloggers continues to increase rapidly since 2015. In fact, most of them make beauty vlogging activities as a permanent job. The emergence and development of this profession is also a proof of the development of information and communication technology. This study aims to determine the meaning that formed in the beauty vlogger through Schutz's phenomenological approach. This study uses a qualitative approach with phenomenology as the type of study. Data collection techniques used in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and literature studies. While the data validity technique uses source triangulation. The results of this study showed that the beauty vlogger interpreted their profession into three meanings: self-actualization efforts, livelihood, and role models.Keywords: Meaning, profession, beauty vlogger,communication experiences
